Solving Problems 101 J Remove any jammed paper from the sheet feeder or open the printer cover and remove any paper jammed inside Press the 4M paper button to clear the error Roll paper doesn t feed correctly or jams in the printer Cut the end of the paper straight across If it s cut diagonally the paper won t feed smoothly If the roll paper end is curled place the end inside a folded sheet of paper and roll it backwards against the curl Make sure the paper is loaded in the roll paper feeder not the sheet feeder see page 20 As you load the paper gently hold it in the roll paper feeder and wait for it to load don t force the paper in Select Roll as the Source Windows or the correct size and source of Roll Paper for the Paper Size Macintosh Other settings will feed too much paper See page 43 for instructions If extra paper feeds press the amp roll paper button for three seconds to rewind the paper all the way repeat if necessary If the af paper light is on press the a paper button Reload the paper as described on page 20 Note For certain paper types clearing a paper jam may leave behind a fine layer of paper dust which may then appear on your next printout To prevent this use a can of compressed air to blow paper dust out of the printer after clearing a paper jam Open the front path door and direct the airflow through the roll paper feeder under the white rollers at the back of

Confirmation then click Next Macintosh The nozzle check pattern prints If the nozzle check pattern has no gaps or lines as shown below click Finish Maintaining Your Printer 81 If the pattern has white lines or gaps as shown below click Clean to clean the print head again l If you don t see any improvement after cleaning the print head three or four times check the solutions beginning on page 99 You can also turn the printer off and wait overnight this allows any dried ink to soften and then clean the print head again Replacing an Ink Cartridge When the red ink light flashes an ink cartridge is low on ink When the red ink light stays on you need to replace a cartridge You can open the printer cover to check the ink light indicating which cartridge is low on ink or needs to be replaced When a cartridge is more than six months old you may need to replace it if printouts don t look their best If the quality doesn t improve after cleaning and aligning the print head you can replace the cartridge even if the red ink light is off Caution Don t open Epson Status Monitor pause printing or respond to ink messages when your printer is printing This may cause your printer to pause and leave an uneven surface on your printout If ink is low wait until printing finishes before checking ink levels or repla

If the error persists contact your dealer or Epson see page 105 Solving Problems 95 Lights Explanation Red Af paper light flashes slowly Red ink light flashes slowly Green power light An unknown printer error has occurred flashes Turn off the printer wait a few seconds and turn it on again If the lights are still flashing contact your dealer or Epson see page 105 Running a Printer Check You can run a printer check to determine whether a problem comes from the printer or some other source l 2 Turn off your printer and computer then disconnect the printer s interface cable Load letter size paper in the sheet feeder Hold down the Af paper button then press and release the O power button Continue to hold down the paper button until the O power light flashes A test page prints the printer s ROM version number and a nozzle check pattern m Ifthe check page prints the problem probably lies in your software settings interface cable or computer or your software may not be installed correctly m Ifthe check page doesn t print you may have a problem with your printer Try the suggestions in Problems and Solutions beginning on page 97 Turn off the printer connect the interface cable and turn on your printer and computer 96 Solving Problems Problems and Solutions Setup and Software Installation Problems The printer makes noise after ink ca

When alignment is finished click Finish on the last screen 86 Maintaining Your Printer Manually Aligning the Print Head 1 Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing 2 Load letter size Photo Quality Ink Jet paper 3 Do one of the following Windows Right click the 64 icon on your taskbar in the lower right corner of your screen Select Print Head Alignment Mac OS X Open the Applications folder and select EPSON Printer Utility Select SP R2400 click OK and select Print Head Alignment 4 Click the Manual button then click OK You see a screen like this as the printer prints an alignment check pattern 5 On the check page select the box in each pattern that has the least noticeable lines in it You may need to use a magnifying glass or loupe Select one box for each pattern numbered 1 through 3 Then enter the box number for each pattern in the boxes on the screen Print Head Alignment wA Look at the alignment sheet Find the square without any visible bands in sets 1 through 3 Select the number that corresponds to that square from the list below for all sets Then click Finish If every square contains a band select the square with the thinnest band or bands Then click Realignment If you do not need to reprint the alignment sheet clear check boxes 1 3 on the right mjs HM js HM s HM Realignment Cancel If box 5 is not the best aligned box in each pattern c

Photoshop and the Epson printer driver Return to the Print with Preview instructions for Adobe Photoshop on page 59 for Mac OS X or page 55 for Windows Make sure the Source Space Document option is not set to Untagged RGB Also make sure you selected the correct profile for your printer in the Print Space Profile menu E If your printed image is lighter than expected and or has a strong light blue cast you probably turned on color management in both Photoshop and the Epson printer driver Return to the instructions on page 61 for Mac OS X or page 57 for Windows Make sure to select Off No Color Adjustment in the printer driver Advanced screen or Color Management menu to turn off color management in your Epson printer driver Printing a Custom Profile Test Target Follow the steps in this section to create and print individual custom profile test targets for each paper type you plan to print on When you re ready to print the test target follow the steps for your operating system below Mac OS X 1 Open Adobe Photoshop and open the profile target file provided by your profile building software manufacturer 2 Ifyou see a missing profile screen select Leave as is don t color manage Select File gt Print with Preview 4 In the Print window click Show More Options then choose Color Management in the pop up menu 62 Printing Special Photos 5 Select Same as Source as the Print Space Profile setting
