If it gets in your eyes flush them immediately with water 14 Caution Do not put your hand inside the Epson Stylus CX all in one or touch any cartridges during printing If you remove an ink cartridge for later use protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the Epson Stylus CX Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port making covers or plugs unnecessary but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or Surrounding area Leave the empty cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement or the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out preventing the Epson Stylus CX from printing To ensure good results use genuine Epson ink cartridges and do not refill them Other products may cause damage to your Epson Stylus CX not covered by Epson s warranty 1 Make sure the Epson Stylus CX is on 2 Make sure that the document cover is closed then open the scanner Caution Do not open the scanner when the document cover Is open 3 Press and release the ink button The On and ink lights flash Note Do not hold down the ink button for more than 3 seconds or the printer will start to clean the print head If one of the cartridges is low or empty the Epson Stylus CX moves that cartridge to the amp ink out mark Go to step 4 If no cartridges are low or empty

Originals for Copying or Scanning Caution Do not place heavy objects on the document table glass and do not press the glass with too much force 1 Open the document cover and place your original face down on the glass in the upper left corner Move your original about 0 04 inch 1 mm away from the top and left edges so all of it will be scanned 2 Close the document cover gently so that your original does not move Caution Never open the document cover beyond where it stops and do not place heavy objects on top of the Epson Stylus CX all in one 9 05 Placing Large or Thick Documents When you scan a large or thick document you can remove the document cover Just open it and pull it straight up If you need to press the document flat while you copy or scan it do not press too hard and be careful not to move it Caution Do not use excessive force on the document cover and do not twist It diagonally You may damage the document cover When you are done replace the document cover by inserting the tabs back into the slots Copying Using the Epson Stylus CX buttons you can make copies using either letter size 8 5 X 11 inch plain paper or letter size 46 inch or 57 inch photo paper Copying a Document 1 Make sure the Epson Stylus CX is turned on 2 Place the document on the glass as described to the left Be sure to close the document cover Load up t

7. to select Plain Paper or Photo Paper 6 Press the paper size button to select Letter 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 7 Press the Start Color or Start B amp W button The Epson Stylus CX makes copies until it runs out of paper Then the red D Error light comes on 8 To make more copies load more paper and press the Start Color or Start B amp W button to resume If you don t need any more copies press the Stop button Note When making a lot of copies it is a good idea to remove the printed copies from the output tray after every 10 sheets or so Speeding Up Printing If you want to make a copy quickly you can print a draft copy The print quality is reduced but the copy prints faster 1 Load plain letter size paper and select Plain Paper and Letter size on the control panel 2 Press and hold down the Stop button then press the Start Color button to copy in color or the Start B amp W button to copy in black and white When the O On light starts flashing release both buttons You can return to regular printing after your draft print job finishes Epson Stylus CX4200 Series Epson Stylus CX4800 Series Printing From a Memory Card Epson Stylus CX4800 Series Only Inserting the Card 1 Make sure the Epson Stylus CX4800 Series all in one is turned on Note When you print directly from a memory card it is best if the Epson Stylus CX4800 Series is not connected to your computer

18. ion some of your digital camera settings may not be reflected in the printed output Scanning You can use your Epson Stylus CX all in one to scan a photo or document and save it on your computer or other device or to fax or e mail it to someone else You can even automatically restore faded color photographs as you scan See page 12 for details You can scan from any TWAIN compliant application such as ArcSoft PhotoImpression using EPSON Scan see Scanning From a Program on page 12 Or you can start EPSON Scan directly from your computer and save your image to a file see the next section The EPSON Scan software provides three scanning modes for progressive levels of control over your scanned image J Full Auto Mode scans quickly and easily using automatic settings L Home Mode previews your image and provides automatic image adjustments cropping tools and preset options for various types of scans L Professional Mode previews your image and lets you manually configure your scan settings with a full array of tools Scanning Directly From EPSON Scan 1 Place your original on the scanner as described on page 7 2 Do one of the following to start EPSON Scan J Windows Double click the EPSON Scan icon on your desktop J Macintosh Double click EPSON Scan in the Applications folder You see the EPSON Scan standby window Hod EPSON Scan J i r Ta To pcan in Ful
19. les and remaining ink levels using the control panel 1 Turn off the Epson Stylus CX 2 Load letter size paper in the sheet feeder 3 Press the ink and On buttons together and hold them down for about 3 seconds The Epson Stylus CX turns on and prints a test pattern It also shows the percentage of ink left in each cartridge Print head does not need to be cleaned yet If the pattern does not look good try cleaning the print head as described below a ee a a ee ie a en ll nih Print head needs to be cleaned Note You can also check the ink level using Status Monitor 3 see the on screen User s Guide Cleaning the Print Head If your printouts are unexpectedly light or faint or you notice light or dark bands across your printout you may need to clean the print head This unclogs the nozzles so they can deliver ink properly Run a nozzle check as described above to see if the print head needs cleaning Note Print head cleaning uses ink so clean it only if quality declines and the nozzle check indicates that the print head needs to be cleaned If the red ink light comes on or flashes you cannot clean the print head In this case replace the appropriate ink cartridge first see the next section 1 Make sure the Epson Stylus CX is on and the 6 ink light is off 2 Hold down the ink button for 3 seconds until the O On light starts flashing The Epson Styl
20. lignment KA Look at the alignment sheet Find the pattern with no dark or light band Select the number that corresponds to that pattern from the list below and click Finish If every pattern contains a band select the pattern with the thinnest band Then click Realignment nm 4 xl Realignment Cancel 9 Look at the printout and find the pattern with no gap or line between the rectangles and enter its number in the box on the screen If you can t find an aligned pattern choose the one that looks the best Then click Realignment to print another alignment sheet and repeat this step 10 Click Finish to close the Print Head Alignment Utility Transporting the Epson Stylus CX If you need to ship your Epson Stylus CX all in one you must prepare it for transportation by packing it in its original box or one of a similar size 1 Turn off the Epson Stylus CX 2 Remove any paper from the sheet feeder and close the paper support 3 Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet Then disconnect the USB cable from the Epson Stylus CX 4 Open the scanner section and make sure the ink cartridge holder is in the home position on the right 5 Secure the ink cartridge holder print head to the case with tape Caution Be sure to remove the tape after installing the printer in its new location 6 Close the scanner section push in the output tray extension and close the output tray 7 Repack the Ep
