1. Fig 1 Take up any loose layers using a pencil or hexagonal barrelled ballpoint pen before inserting Fig 1 the cassette into the machine see Fig 2 e If the cassette feels tight while performing operation shown see Fig 2 the tape may be jamming due to ridges formed in the winding of the tape visible through the centre window These may be removed in most cases by fast winding of the cassette from one end to the other and back again e Use only well known brands of tape Avoid use of C 120 cassettes Furthermore do not expose cassettes to direct sunlight dust or oil and do not touch the tape surfaces 16 CARE AND MAINTENANCE COMPACT DISC CARE To remove a disc from its storage case press down on the centre of the case and lift the disc out holding it carefully by the edges e Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the discs recorded surface with a soft cloth Unlike conventional records compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles Wipe in a straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc Small dust particles and light stains will have absolutely no effect on reproduction quality Clean the disc periodically with a soft lint free dry cloth Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc If necessary use a CD cleaning kit Never write on or
2. 13 PLAYING RECORDS This system includes a full size 3 speed belt drive turntable You can play 33 45 and 78 rpm records 1 2 the OFF VOLUME control clockwise until a click is heard and set the Volume to a low level Set the Function AM FM TAPE CD PHONO selector to the PHONO position Make sure that you have removed the stylus cover from the stylus and have released the Tone Arm Lock that secured the tone arm to the tone arm rest Set the turntable Speed Selector to the appropriate speed 33 45 or 78 rpm If you are playing 45 rpm singles place the 45 rpm adapter on the centre spindle Place your record on the centre spindle Raise the Cue lever to lift the tone arm off its rest Move the tone arm to the edge of the record The turntable starts automatically Use the Cue lever to gently lower the tone arm onto the record Adjust the OFF VOLUME control to the desired level When the tone arm reaches the end of the record it automatically returns to the tone arm rest and the record player stops To turn the system off rotate the OFF VOLUME control counter clockwise until a click is heard The POWER indicator goes off NOTE Do not turn or stop the turntable manually Moving or jarring the Turntable without securing the Tone Arm clamp could result in damage to the Tone Arm IMPORTANT TO PROTECT THE TURNTABLE FROM DAMAGE DURING TRANSPORTATION A SILVER TRANSIT SCREW IS

Note Before inserting a tape in the player be sure that there is no excess slack in the cassette that could become jammed in the mechanism Refer to the CARE AND MAINTENANCE section for instructions on removing excess slack from the cassette 1 2 3 Rotate the OFF VOLUME control clockwise until a click is heard and set the Volume to a low level The POWER indicator comes Set the Function selector AM FM TAPE CD PHONO to the TAPE position Insert your cassette into the slot located on right side cabinet as shown in the illustration with the side you wish to play facing up and the open end on the right side Cassette Tape Cassette playback begins as soon as the tape is inserted Adjust the OFF VOLUME control to the desired level To advance the tape rapidly depress the EJ FF Eject Fast Forward button approximately half way The tape will move forward rapidly as long as the button is depressed Normal playback will resume when the button is released E J n m When the tape ends the player stops automatically Depress the EJ FF Eject Fast Forward button completely to remove the m cassette from the player You may press the EJ FF Eject Fast LIZ Forward button to stop playback and remove the cassette at any time To turn the system off rotate the OFF VOLUME control counter clockwise until a click is heard The POWER indicator goes off

LOCATED AT THE UPPER RIGHT OF THE TURNTABLE PLATFORM BEFORE PLAYING PLEASE USE SCREWDRIVER TURN THE TRANSIT SCREW IN CLOCKWISE DIRECTION SCREW GOING DOWN COMPLETELY TO UNLOCK THE TURNTABLE Q eTO CLOCK THE TURNTABLE AGAIN FOR TRANSPORTATION PLEASE TURN THE SCREW IN COUNTER CLOCKWISE DIRECTION USING STEREO HEADPHONES NOT INCLUDED Connect a set of stereo headphones with a 3 5mm mini plug to the EARPHONE jack on the front panel Before putting on the headphones always set the OFF VOLUME control to a low level Then put the headphones on and gradually increase the Volume to a comfortable listening level The built in speakers automatically shut off when headphones are connected to the EARPHONE jack X ava KS amp EARPHONE jack 15 CARE AND MAINTENANCE CASSETTE CARE Two common causes of trouble experienced when using cassettes are 1 Tape jamming Leading to uneven speed in playback and 2 Tape tangling Where the tape wraps itself around vital parts of the mechanism To reduce the likelihood of these problems occurring the following precautions should be observed e Check that there are no loose layers of tape visible through the cassette centre window see

The Play Indicator lights 7 Adjust the OFF VOLUME control to the desired level 8 Playback will continue until the end of the disc When the disc ends the display shows the total number of tracks on the disc again You may also stop playback at any time by pressing the CD STOP button Pause Control To pause momentarily during playback press the CD PLAY PAUSE button again Playback stops but the disc continues to spin and the display flashes Press the CD PLAY PAUSE button once more to cancel Pause and resume playback The display stops flashing Skipping Tracks And High Speed Music Search During CD Playback repeatedly press the F F Forward Forward or F R Fast Reverse buttons to skip to higher or lower number tracks When the desired track number appears on the display release the buttons and playback will begin on the desired track To rapidly search forward or back within a track to locate a specific musical passage depress and hold either the F F Forward Forward or F R Fast Reverse buttons The player will move forward or backward at high speed as long as the buttons are depressed When you hear the desired passage release the buttons Normal playback will resume at that point D mt F R F F 12 PLAYING CASSETTE TAPES

8. reception will be in stereo If you tune to a weaker FM station the reception will automatically switch to mono 4 Adjust the OFF VOLUME control as desired 5 When you are finished listening turn the OFF VOLUME control counter clockwise until a click is heard The POWER indicator and the tuning dial light go off Antenna Information The AM antenna is inside the cabinet If AM reception is unsatisfactory try repositioning the cabinet slightly until the internal antenna is picking up the strongest signal The FM wire antenna is located on the back cabinet If necessary adjust the position and direction of this antenna until you find the position that provides the best reception 10 _ PLAYING COMPACT DISCS 1 Turn the OFF VOLUME control clockwise until a click is heard and set the volume to a low level 2 Set the Function selector AM FM TAPE CD PHONO to the Cc CD position The CD track number display comes On C5 0 3 Press the CD OPEN CLOSE button to open the CD drawer 4 Place your disc in the drawer with the printed label side facing up 5 Press the CD OPEN CLOSE button once more to close the drawer The disc will spin for a few seconds while J l the player reads the disc then the disc stops and the LI display shows the total number of tracks on the disc si 6 Press the CD OPEN CLOSE button again to begin playback on track number one
