1. Electrolux Instructions for Installation and Use of Electronic TF1131 Upright Freezer SAFETY NOTE IF THIS APPLIANCE IS REPLACING AN OLD REFRIGERATOR OR FREEZER WHICH IS GOING TO BE SCRAPPED REMOVE THE DOOR OR LID BEFORE DISPOSAL TO PREVENT CHILDREN FROM BECOMING TRAPPED INSIDE The symbol means that your freezer will store frozen food at 18 C 0 F for long term storage and will also freeze fresh food DOOR HANG If preferred the door hinges and handles can be transferred to the opposite side to reverse the door hang Instructions for doing this are given on page 6 INSTALLATION After unpacking your freezer the interior shelves etc should be washed as described later under Cleaning The plastic flaps at the front of the shelves in the upper section of the freezer can be swung forward to the open position after lifting them upwards to release them from the retainers at the sides Lift them also when closing so that they are retained in position The baskets simply pull forward and can be removed completely by lifting the front to clear the stops For the cooling unit to work efficiently your freezer should be located in a dry atmosphere out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temperatures e g not next to a cooker or other sources of direct heat or in a very cold room such as an outhouse where the temperature may fall below 6 C 43 F The freezer will be heavy when loaded with food and must

To fit the cover first engage its top edge behind the top of the light housing then depress the bottom left hand front corner of the cover and push into place TO SHUT DOWN THE FREEZER To shut down the freezer switch off and remove the plug from the socket outlet then defrost and clean the cabinet as described in the previous item When not in use the freezer doors should be left ajar otherwise the air inside may go stale giving rise to an unpleasant odour which could be difficult to remove at a later date Remember that if the electricity supply is turned off at the main switch the freezer will not operate When going away for a period on holiday for instance don t turn off at the mains unless it is intended to put the freezer out of use FURTHER INFORMATION For the long term storage of frozen foods i e up to three months for pre packaged commercially 5 frozen food and up to a year for home frozen fresh food the temperature in the freezer should be 18 C 09 F or below It does not matter if lower temperatures are obtained but operating a domes tic freezer continuously at temperatures considerably lower than this will only increase the running cost with little corresponding benefit The stock of foods should be used in rotation as far as possible to prevent any items from being left for excessive periods Packages should be preferably marked with a code or date indicating when they are placed in the freezer and it is a
3. before you call for a Service Engineer a Is there a power failure Check your house lights If there is keep the freezer doors closed until power is restored b Is the plug firmly connected to the wall socket and is the socket switched on Check the power supply by plugging in another appliance c Is the fuse in the plug intact and are the wires in the mains lead correctly connected to the plug see page 2 If the red thermometer display light comes on indicating a rise in temperature d Is the thermostat dial at the correct setting e Has a door been left open or partly open allowing the temperature to rise f Have you recently put a load of fresh food in the freezer for freezing If so the red light may be on for a while but will go out when the temperature has fallen again If after checking the above your freezer still won t work properly call your nearest Electrolux Service Shop or Office without delay It is listed on the back page HOW TO DEFROST It will be necessary to remove frost from the shelves of the freezer from time to time perhaps 2 or 3 times a year depending on the build up of frost and it is advisable to do this when the amount of food being stored is low Remove the frost from each freezing shelf in turn by using a stiff bristle brush or a plastic scraper Do not use sharp metal instruments or a wire brush as they may pierce the tubes and release the refrigerant or damage the protective f

5. defrost as described earlier The cabinet interior and accessories can then be cleaned with a cloth wrung out in a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water one teaspoonful in each pint of water Wipe over with a cloth rinsed in warm water only and dry thoroughly Don t wash any plastic parts in water that is more than hand warm and do not expose them to dry heat The outside of the cabinet should be dusted regularly and occasionally wiped down with a clean damp cloth followed by a dry clean duster The gloss finish can be maintained by the use of a mild wax polish applied sparingly to the paintwork every few months NEVER USE STRONG CHEMICALS ABRASIVES OR HIGHLY PERFUMED CLEANING MATERIALS ON ANY PART OF THE CABINET After cleaning and drying rub a little non scented talcum powder or French Chalk onto the sealing face of the rubber door gasket particularly down the hinge side This will enable the gasket to move readily against the cabinet as the door is closed CHANGING THE INTERIOR LIGHT BULB Should the interior light fail to work first switch off at the wall socket and pull out the plug Remove the light cover by pressing upwards the front left hand bottom corner of the cover to release the clip and at the same time pulling the bottom of the cover towards the middle of the cabinet Unscrew the bulb and replace it with a new S E S 10 or 15 watt bulb available from your local Service Shop as listed on the back page
6. good idea to keep a simple record of what is being stored and the dates to assist when re ordering fresh supplies Removable index cards are provided on the flaps and basket fronts so you can make note of what you have placed in each section of the freezer If you hear the sounds caused by the refrigerant circulating through the cooling system this is not detrimental and will be less obvious when the freezer is loaded with food If your freezer breaks down or if there is an isolated power failure there will be no noticeable effect on the storage life of the food provided it does not thaw before the freezer is operative again The time taken to thaw would depend on the amount of food in the freezer and the prevailing room temperature and could be up to 24 hours under favourable conditions During such times the freezer doors should be kept closed Repeated short time power failures should have no effect provided the food does not thaw Never put hot food in the freezer CHANGING OVER THE DOOR HINGES if preferred the door hang can be transferred to the opposite side and instructions for doing this are given below Alternatively an Electrolux Service Representative may be called in to do this work for you if you contact the service address for your area see back page A charge would be made for this service To change the door hang two medium size screwdrivers will be required one flat ended for the slotted screws and one Superdr
7. lower door engaging the top with the lower pin of the centre hinge Support the door so that it does not drop until completing the following operation 10 Refit the lower hinge bracket to its new position on the opposite side making sure that the plastic bearing washer is on the hinge pin and that the pin enters the bush in the door 11 Carefully prise out the plastic plugs from the alternative handle positions on the opposite sides of the doors Transfer the handles to their new positions and push the plastic plugs into the vacated screw holes 12 Refit the lower ventilator engaging the slots at the bottom before clipping the top into place 13 Check that the doors open and close properly and seal all round Oy Or PW rr ESE EE EE TT a a eT A ID SFR E TSE ET TE TT a TOT Guarantee This Guarantee is offered to you as an extra benefit and does not affect your legal rights Electrolux products are carefully designed manufactured tested and inspected and in conse quence we undertake to replace or repair any part found to be defective in material or work manship within one year of delivery to the original purchaser free of charge This guarantee is conditional upon the appliance being correctly installed and used in accordance with the Company s instructions under normal domestic conditions in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland It may however be invalidated by unauthorised repair or modification of the appliance The Comp
8. the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED If a 3 pin 13 amp fused plug is used it should be fitted with a 13 amp fuse with other plug types the circuit should contain a 10 amp fuse If at any time a replacement mains lead is required the cross sectional area of its conductors must not be less tha 0 75mm2 When operating the outside front edges of the freezer may feel warm to the touch This is quite normal THE CONTROLS ELECTRONIC Control The freezer control panel is situated at the top front and includes two switches incorporating indica tor lights an electronic thermometer display and the dial for the thermostat The functions of the controls are as follows 1 Green On off Switch This is a mains on off switch which incorporates a green indicator light When the freezer is connected to the electricity supply and this switch is set to 1 on the green light will come on and show that electricity is available to the freezer At position 0 off the green light will go out and the freezer is switched off 2 Amber Fast freeze Switch This is used when freezing food as described later When the switch is on position the amber light in the switch will come on to remind you that it is in use 3 Electronic Thermometer Display The thermometer display consists of a series of lights one red six green and one amber The red light at the le

Food Freezing Guide should be placed on the top shelf or top two shelves in contact with the refrigerated shelf surfaces as far as possible The packages should be spaced apart so that cold air can circulate between them they should not touch existing packs of frozen food During the freezing process keep the doors closed After placing the food in the freezer the amber light in the thermometer display will go out but one or more of the green lights will remain on Do not worry if all of the green lights go out and the red light comes on for a while As the freezing process proceeds the green lights will gradually all come on then eventually go out leaving on only the amber light in the display This indicates that the freezing process has finished and may take up to about 12 hours depending on the amount being frozen If no more food is to be frozen switch off the fast freeze switch If more food is to be frozen repeat the instructions given above Freezing small amounts If only a small amount of food is to be frozen up to about 5 kg 11 Ib it will not be necessary to activate the fast freeze switch Simply load the packages of food on the top shelf and leave the doors closed until the green lights in the thermometer display indicate that the temperature has returned to its normal storage reading 18 SOMETHING NOT WORKING If the green mains on indicator light goes out for an unknown reason check the following points

12. e Controls 3 LOADING THE FREEZER We advise you to run your freezer for a day before storing frozen food See then that the green therm ometer display is registering a temperature of 18 C or below The freezer has a net storage volume of 279 litres 9 76 cubic feet and will hold approximately 89 3 kg 196 Ib of mixed varieties of food This is based on a standard measurement of 0 32 kg per litre 20 Ib per cubic foot but some variation may occur in the amount which can be stored depend ing on the density and sizes of the particular foods E Pre packaged commercially frozen food should be stored in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions for 3 star frozen food compartments and should be put into the freezer as soon as possible after purchase Your freezer provides for long term storage which generally means up to 3 months but the length of storage time can vary and it is important to follow the recommended times shown on packets of commercially frozen food Storage times for home prepared frozen foods are given in the separate Food Freezing Guide Any frozen food which is allowed to thaw accidentally should either be eaten within 24 hours or thrown away Alternatively if the food is uncooked and it has not been completely defrosted it can be cooked and then refrozen Cooked food that has defrosted must never be refrozen Never put bottles or cans of fizzy drinks in the freezer as they may burst when freezing also don t
13. ft hand end of the display will glow provided that the electricity supply to the freezer is in order to warn that the temperature in the freezer may not be cold enough It will glow when the freezer is first switched on but will go out when the temperature begins to fall and the green lights start to come on The red light may come on temporarily as explained later after placing fresh food in the freezer for freezing or after the doors have been opened but it should go out when the temperature has fallen again The green lights in the thermometer display progressively come on as the temperature falls to form a band across the centre It is the green light at the right hand end of the illuminated band that indicates the temperature in C against the printed scale above it The normal temp erature required for long term storage of frozen food is 18 C The amber light in the display will glow some time after the fast freeze switch has been switched on to indicate when the temperature is low enough for freezing fresh food and to indicate when food has frozen This is explained later under Freezing 4 Thermostat Dial To start with this should be set to about the half way position but may later be adjusted if necessary to suit your particular conditions of installation and use in order to achieve the required storage temperature in the freezer of 18 C After the freezer has been in use for a day or two for storing food chec
14. give children iced lollies straight from the freezer as they could cause frost burns FREEZING FRESH FOOD Detailed information on the preparation and packaging of fresh foods for freezing and their storage times is given in the separate Food Freezing Guide The maximum amount of fresh food that can be frozen at one time in your freezer is 20 kg 44 Ib Do not exceed this otherwise freezing time will be slowed down If you have more to freeze do it in two or more loads rather than attempt to freeze it all at the same time Preparing the freezer for freezing At least 12 hours before you intend freezing a quantity of fresh food switch on the fast freeze switch so that the temperature in the freezer will be lowered in readiness for freezing Re arrange existing frozen foods to leave space on the top shelf or top two shelves in the upper section of the freezer to later accept the load of fresh food As the temperature in the freezer falls the number of green lights in the thermometer display will gradually increase Eventually all of the green lights and the amber light at the right hand end will come on When the temperature drops still further the green lights will go out leaving on only the amber light The freezer is now ready to accept the food for freezing Freezing When the amber light in the thermometer display indicates that the freezer is ready for freezing the food which should have been prepared and packaged as described in the

16. inish if possible starting at the top move existing foods to one side brush off the frost then move the foods back again to gain access to the remaining shelves in turn Occasionally it is desirable to completely defrost the freezer and to clean it choosing if possible a time when food stocks are low Any remaining frozen foods should be placed in cardboard boxes and wrapped in layers of newspaper blankets or other suitable insulating material In the bottom of the freezer lining near the front is a defrost water drain sealed with a plastic plug When defrosting pull out the plastic plug open the lower ventilator by pulling it forward at the top and place a suitable container under the drain to catch defrost water Switch off the freezer and to defrost quickly place bowls of hot not boiling water on the freez ing shelves As the frost loosens it may be carefully removed with a bristle brush or a plastic scraper NEVER USE SALT OR OTHER CHEMICALS TO HASTEN THE DEFROSTING As soon as all the frost has been removed clean the cabinet thoroughly as described under Cleaning re fit the plastic plug in the drain opening then switch on and replace the frozen food Check that the thermostat dial is at the correct setting Remember that if the temperature of frozen food is allowed to rise unduly during defrosting its storage life may be shortened CLEANING Clean the cabinet thoroughly at intervals as necessary Switch off and
17. iv for the cross headed screws The procedure is as follows 1 Open the lower door and remove the lower ventilator by pulling it forward at the top and lifting it away 2 Close the lower door support it firmly so that it does not drop and remove the lower hinge bracket from the cabinet at the bottom of the door by undoing its two fixing screws Take care not to lose the plastic bearing washer from the hinge pin Holding the door firmly pull it away at the bottom then disengage it from the hinge pin at the top Replace the two screws previously holding the lower hinge bracket then remove the similar screws from the alternative hinge bracket position on the opposite side With the upper door closed support it so that it does not drop and remove the centre hinge at the bottom of the door by taking out the two screws Hold the door firmly pull it away at the bottom then disengage it from the upper hinge pin Unscrew the upper hinge pin from under the control panel at the top of the cabinet and transfer it to the opposite side 7 Pull off the plastic cover from the alternative centre hinge position and refit it on the opposite side Fit the upper door to the cabinet engaging the top with the upper hinge pin in its new position Support the door until the following operation is completed 8 Fit the centre hinge in its new position ensuring that the upper pin of the hinge engages the bush at the bottom of the door 9 Fit the
18. k the thermometer reading Do this when the doors have not been opened for at least an hour otherwise the reading may be influenced If the temperature is not cold enough i e is warmer than 18 C turn the thermostat dial further clockwise if it is too cold turn it back a little in an anti clockwise direction Remember that any adjustment to the thermostat dial can take a number of hours to take effect especially if the freezer is well loaded with food You should therefore wait until the next day before re checking and if necessary making further adjustment STARTING THE FREEZER To start the freezer plug the mains lead into the wall socket and switch the socket on Turn the thermostat dial to about the half way position and switch the green on off switch to position 1 on The green light will come on and the cooling system should start running Note that the red light in the thermometer display will also come on but will go out again as the freezer begins to cool The green thermometer display will then progressively light up as the temperature drops TEMPERATURE REGULATION The required temperature in the freezer is 18 C O F or below The temperature may be influ enced by such things as location room temperature and the frequency and duration of door open ings but these effects can be taken care of if necessary by changing the setting of the thermostat dial as already explained see item 4 of the section headed Th
19. therefore be stood on a strong firm floor and should be level Before use carefully adjust the level by screwing out or in the hexagon headed level adjusters under the front corners of the cabinet Don t obstruct the space underneath the freezer and make sure that the ventilation openings at the bottom front and top front beside the control panel are not covered in any way The back may be placed close to the wall but should not touch it Do not install the freezer in any place with restricted ventilation Connecting to the Mains The cooling system is fitted with a 220V nominal motor which is suitable for use on 220 to 240V 50 Hz a c electricity supplies and has a 3 wire mains lead which is intended for connection to a 3 pin plug and a properly earthed socket outlet IMPORTANT The wires in the mains lead of this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code GREEN AND YELLOW EARTH BLUE NEUTRAL BROWN LIVE As the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows The wire which is coloured GREEN AND YELLOW must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to
