4. e is about 75 F DO NOT charge the batteries in an air temperature below 40 F or above 105 F This is important and will prevent serious damage to the batteries _ 3 The power pack should be recharged when it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs which were easily done previously _ DO NOT CONTINUE to use under these conditions Repeat _ the charging procedure REMOVING THE POWER PACK FROM THE TOOL 1 Move Switch Control Button to the center of its slot to LOCK Trigger Switch OFF see Figure 1 FIGURE 1 2 Remove Power Pack from Tool Handle by first pressing Release Button Figure 2 The Latch will spring open and allow Power Pack to be withdrawn from handle Figure 3 FIGURE 2 RELEASE BUTTON aie DA TRIGGER SWITCH FIGURE 3 POWER PACK TRIGGER SWITCH amp CONTROL BUTTON The Scrugun is turned ON and OFF by pulling and releasing the Trigger Switch However the Trigger can be locked OFF by Pm the Switch Control Button in the center of its slot Figure 4 This position should be used to prevent the Trigger from being accidentally pressed when the tool is not in use when attaching or removing the Power Pack when attaching or changing accessories and when cleaning or serv icing the Scrugun For driving fasteners the Switch Control Button should be in the FORWARD position Figure 5 Use the REVERSE position Figure 6 for removing fastene
5. empt to charge power pack with any other charger 2 Do not attempt to open the Power Pack housing 3 DO NOT store the Tool and Power Pack in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 120 F such as outside s or mem buildings in summer 4 DO NOT charge Power Pack when it or air temperature is ELOW 40 F or ABOVE 105 This is very importan pied damaged or is cnt worn out The power pack can explode in a fire 6 A small leakage of liquid from the power pack cells may occur under extreme usage or temperature I conditions This does not dato a ate However if the outer case seal is broken and this leakage gets on your skin a ne a Wash quickly with soap and water 2 o ManU ize with a mild acid such as eiar n juice or vine x c If battery i liquid gets into your eyes flush them with clear water for a minimum of 10 minutes and seek immediate medical attention Medi cal note The iqu is 535 solution of potassium hydrox ide o CHARGING THE POWER PACK THE BATTERIES IN YOUR NEW POWER PACK ARE NOT FULLY CHARGED First read the Safety Instructions Then follow the important charging notes and procedures on page 3 SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS POWER PACK IMPORTANT CHARGING NOTES 1 Follow the charging procedure shown in the dhargari Owner s Manual 2 Longest life and best performance can 1 be obtained if the batteries are charged when the air temperatur
6. er has been driven home an easing of forward pressure will permit the clutch jaws to disengage If you maintain foreward pressure after the fastener has been seated the clutch will ratchet audibly Try to keep this ratchet ing to a minimum for longest clutch life and longer screwdriving capacity between charges Always drill pilot holes for wood screws Spraying all screws with a dry lubricant will give them the easiest rundown Experiment with different types of sheet metal screws to find the ones best suited to your application C ADJUSTING DEPTH DEPTH SENSITIVE SCRUGUNS 4 Pull back Collar and screw Locator in or out as follows 3 a For Drywall Screws end of bit should extend approx imately 3 16 beyond end of Locator b For Washer Hex Head Screws the nutsetter should be LOCATOR approximately flush with end of Locator LLAR For large Washer Head and Sealer Screws the CO _ nutsetter should be recessed about 1 16 into Locator 2 Make sure notches in Locator engage with pins in Collar _ FIGURE 8 3 Test drive a fastener in scrap material to determine if fastener is seating correctly Further fine adjustment may be necessary to increase or decrease fastener depth Each notch setting change represents a 0083 change in depth setting 05 ee one complete revolution ACCESSORIES __ CAUTION We strongly recommend that your first purchase be the No U2106 Safety Glas
7. ess Drill an accessory Holster is avail able This Holster fastens to your belt and keeps the Drill handy and ready for work It also frees both hands when you are not actually using the tool Order Cat No 98004 Holster 420 VAC COMPUTERIZED 1 HOUR CHARGER ORDER CAT NO 98060 12 VOLT DC COMPUTERIZED 1 HOUR CHARGER ORDER CAT NO 98065 FOR CARS OR TRUCKS No 98003 Fast Charge Energy Pack CLEANING amp LUBRICATION Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the tool Many household cleaners contain chemicals which could seriously damage the plastic Also do not use gasoline turpentine lacquer or paint thinner dry cleaning fluids or similar products Never let any liquid get inside the tool never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid Self lubricating bearings are used in the tool and periodic relubrication is not required However it is recommended that once a year you take or send the tool to a B amp D Service Center for a thorough cleaning inspection and lubrication of the gear case NOTE The metal contacts of the Power Pack may corrode slightly after a period of time If this occurs remove the deposits with a soft cloth or standard pencil eraser STORAQE 1 The best storage place is one that is cool and dry away from direct sunlight heating pipes or ducts furnaces etc Power Packs should not be stored in a position where their contacts could touch metal objects 2 B
8. est storage temperature is approximately 50 F Do not store where temperatures may go below 40 F or above 120 F Avoid storage in outside metal buildings where the temperature could go above 120 F in summer as this could damage the power pack 3 Long storage will not harm the Scrugun Power Pack or Charger Under the proper conditions given above they can be stored for 5 years or more without harm IMPORTANT To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY repairs maintenance and adjustment including brush inspection and replacement should be performed by Black amp Decker Service Centers or other qualified service organizations always using Black amp Decker replacement parts Power pack battery replacement should be accomplished at B amp D Service Centers using only identical replacement batteries BATTERIES After several years of normal use the batteries in your battery pack will no longer accept a charge This is a normal occurrence and signifies that the batteries have reached the end of their useful life Replacement battery packs are available at extra cost at your local Black amp Decker Service Center Your battery pack contains nickel cadmium batteries The Environmental Protection Agency considers Cadmium to be a toxic material that can do severe damage to the environment Check with your state Environmental Protection Agency to find out how to properly recycle or dispose of cadmium or you can turn in expired battery

11. rs When moving from FORWARD to REVERSE or vice versa al ways release the trigger first as the control button will not move when the trigger is depressed Always store Tool with control in LOCK OFF position LOCK OFF FIGURE 4 LL Q m FORWARD Din y FIGURE 5 To E REVERSE ee FIGURE 6 CONTROL BUTTON The screwdriv ing accessory is attached by pushing its shank in _ tothe chuck as far as it will go It will snap into a position that will hold it in the chuck It may be necessary to twist the ac cessory slightly as you push it in so that its hex shank meshes ar with the hex socket inside the chuck To remove the accessory pull it t quickly and firey and it will snap out of the chuck NOTE With DEPTH SENSITIVE SCRUGUNS it is first necessary to pull back the Collar and unscrew and remove the Locator Figure 8 before attaching or removing accessories in all Black amp Decker Scruguns when the tool is first turned _ ON a clutch provides a dead or stationary front spindle gt This permits the screwdriving accessory to locate the screw _ slot or nut Forward pressure then engages the clutch and ay drives or removes the fastener Your Cordless Scrugun has what is known as a POSITIVE z CLUTCH With this clutch sufficient forward pressure is main tained on the tool while driving to keep the clutch jaws engaged When the fasten
