4. three prong grounding type plug to fit the proper grounding type receptacle The green or green and yellow conductor in the cord is the grounding wire Never connect the green or green and yellow wire to a live terminal If your unit is for use on less than 150 volts it has a plug like that shown in Figure A If it is for use on 150 to 250 volts it has a plug like that shown in Figure D An adapter Figures B and C is available for connecting Figure A plugs to two prong recep tacles The green colored rigid ear lug etc must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box No adapter is available for a plug as shown in Figure D Adapter shown in Figures B amp C is Not for Use in Canada GROUNDED OUTLET BOX Bq GROUNDING PRONG IS LONGEST OF THE 3 PRONGS A B a D We recommend that you NEVER disassemble the tool or try to do any rewiring in the electrical system Any repairs should be performed only by B amp D Service Centers or other qualified service organizations Should you be determined to make a repair yourself remember that the green colored wire is the grounding wire Never connect this green wire to a live terminal If you replace the plug on the power cord be sure to connect the green wire only to the grounding longest prong on a 3 prong plug EXTENSION CORD When using the tool at a considerable distance from power source an extension cord of adequate size mus

10. g Hammer Always use the side handle supplied with the tool Keep a firm grip on the Hammer when it is operating Don t overreach with the Hammer Maintain a firm balanced working stance When necessary use only properly positioned safe platforms ladders and scaf folds to do the job SAFELY Hammer bits and tools get hot in operation Wear gloves when touching them Regularly check tightness of all external screws GROUNDED OUTLET BOX MOTOR Your Black and Decker tool is powered by a B amp D built motor Be sure your power supply agrees with voltage marked on name plate Volts 50 60 Hz means Alternating Current ONLY VOLTS DC 60 Hz means it will also operate on Direct Current Voltage variation of more than 10 will cause loss of power and over heating All B amp D tools are factory tested if this tool does not operate check the power supply CARBON BRUSHES Unplug Hammer To inspect carbon brushes un screw the four Brush Cover Band Screws and remove bands from housing Unscrew brush caps and remove brush springs and brushes Inspect carbon brushes often Replace when brushes are worn down to the identifying letter or groove or when spring exerts insufficient pressure to hold brush against commutator Keep brushes clean and sliding freely in guides GROUNDING This tool should be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electric shock The tool is equipped with an approved three conductor cord and
11. he trigger turns the tool OFF Note Carefully the Following 1 In some cases when going from on idling action to a hammering action it may be necessary to momentarily release the trigger to resume beating 2 The output of this Hammer has been increased appre ciably over previous types With this increased power the following points are important PRESSURE WHILE HAMMERING BIT SHOULDER AGAINST NOSE PIECE BIT AGAINST WORK Fig F A When hammering push the Hammer forward or downward with just enough pressure to keep the shoulder of the bit against the Hammer nose piece Fig F Excessive pressure will actually decrease work output OPERATION Continued B When drilling holes with star drill swing the accessory turning handle in an arc of between 100 and 180 from 40 to 60 times per minute This will prevent binding and remove the cuttings C For best demolition performance always place the end of the bit close to an edge of the work breaking the work away piece by piece Trying to break away too large a chunk may cause the bit to get stuck in the work and may also decrease demolition rate LUBRICATION Your Hammer has been designed to operate for an extended period of time before requiring relubrication We recommend that after every 75 hours of operation the grease reservoir on the top of the gear case be checked See Fig H for disassembly aaa p gt lt RESERVOIR Sain Remo
