9. e guitar has been properly adjusted before being shipped from the facto ry In the event adjustment is necessary contact the dealer from whom you purchased the instrument if possible as special skills may be required For those adjustments that can be performed by the owner please closely follow the instructions given in the Owner s Manual for the procedure When playing the instrument pay attention to the volume level Especially late at night take neighbors and those who are close by into consider ation Broken guitar necks are mostly the result of accidents such as dropping the guitar the guitar falling over or from shocks occurred during transport When the guitar is not being used make sure it is kept on a sturdy stand where it won t fall over or place it in its case Do not treat the instrument in a rough manner like throwing objects at the instrument dropping the instrument etc And do not put excessive force on the switches or control knobs etc Doing so can result in damage When connecting or disconnecting the cable make sure the guitar ampli fier s power is switched OFF or the amplifier s volume is turned all the way down Not doing so can shorten the life of the guitar amplifier When cleaning the instrument use a soft dry cloth Also do not spray in secticides close to the instrument Doing so can damage the guitar s finish 01 e g om en indd 12 09 3 13 9 41 42 AM AUSTRIA Yamaha Music
10. e it in a safe manner we urge you to read this Owner s Manual before using the instrument The cautions given in the following Safety Precautions sec tion are provided to prevent unexpected injuries or accidents Please understand each of the cautions and use the instru ment in a safe and proper manner e After changing the strings cut off the leftover string ends String ends are sharp and can cause injuries S e Clean the instrument with a soft dry cloth And when cleaning the head AN Caution Safety Precautions stock be careful not to injure yourself on the sharp string ends Using your Yamaha Guitar in a Safe Manner Preventing Unexpected Injuries and Accidents Using Batteries Properly e When using a strap make sure the strap is se curely attached to the guitar e For guitars that use a battery make sure that only the specified battery is used and it is installed with its polarity markings aligned properly e Do not lift the guitar by strap It can cause serious injury or damage to the guitar e On guitars that require two or more batteries do not mix new batteries with old Improper use of batteries can result in the batteries rupturing or leaking e Do not treat the instrument in a rough manner causing injury or damage such as swinging it about etc The strap on the guitar may detach causing un expected accidents such as the instrument drop ping etc or injuring persons close by e
11. e sug gest that you entrust this adjustment to your dealer P PICKUP HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT The height of the pickup i e distance from the strings affects gain the higher the pickup the louder the sound and vice versa If the pickup is set too high sustain and playability will suffer because of the magnetic pull on the strings Adjust over all height using the screws located at either side of the pickup If the pickup has individually adjustable polepieces most hum buckers do these can then be adjusted to achieve the best overall balance The polepieces should normally be about 2 or 3 millimeters from the strings Single coil Pickup Humbucking Pickup Adjustable polepiece Height adjustment screw Height adjustment screw 09 3 13 9 41 41 AM P CORRECT USE AND HANDLING OF BATTERIES j Battery ORo 9V EF When changing batteries pay close attention to the polarity markings as shown in the illustration above When these run out don t just throw them away but dispose of them as minor chemical waste 10 01 e g om en indd 10 p 09 3 13 9 41 42 AM e Do not place your face close to the instrument when changing or adjusting the strings Strings may suddenly break causing injuries to eyes etc It can be the cause other unexpected injuries as well Thank you for purchasing this Yamaha Guitar To get the most out of this fine instrument and to us
12. elow This position is maintained by opposing tension between the strings and the claw springs If you change string gauge you will need to readjust the spring tension to return the bridge back to the parallel position The adjustment procedures are 1 Remove the screws that attach the tremolo cavity back plate from the back side of the guitar exposing the claw springs 2 Make sure that the guitar is tuned to proper pitch 3 If the bridge is tilted forward up tighten spring tension by turning the claw screws clockwise If the bridge is tilted back down loosen the spring tension by turning the claw screws counterclockwise illustration A Be sure to check string pitch after each adjustment to the spring tension S Adjust the height uniformly using the two screws A 01 e g om en indd 8 p 09 3 13 9 41 41 AM convex bend 01 e g om en indd 9 TRUSS ROD ADJUSTMENT The curvature of the neck should be slightly concave Clockwise rotation of the nut tightens the rod and corrects for too much concave bow Counterclockwise rotation of the nut loosens the rod and corrects for too much convex bend Make any adjustments gradually Allow five to ten minutes for setting and check the curvature after each 1 2 turn of the truss rod nut Nr d SE ees fii eee SEE J Bra concave If too much If too much concave bow convex NOTE Unless you have experience with truss rods w
