17. 20 How to wash correctly Before washing Sort the laundry m Empty all pockets Foreign objects e g nails coins paper clips etc can cause damage to garments and compo nents in the machine m Badly soiled areas e g collars and cuffs and water soluble stains can be pre treated with bar soap liquid detergent or detergent mixed into a solution or paste With particularly stubborn stains ask your dry cleaner for advice Do not use solvent based clean ing agents in this machine m Sort the laundry by colour and by care label symbol Most garments have a textile care label in the collar or side seam Dark textiles often contain excess dye and should be washed separately sev eral times before being washed to gether with other garments Always wash whites and coloureds separately Delicate textiles should be washed sep arately in a delicates programme use a washing bag where appropriate Curtains Remove lead weights and strips or place in a laundry bag Underwiring and collar stiffeners Any loose wiring in bras shirt collar stiffeners etc should be removed or sewn in Knitted garments trousers and jeans T shirts and sweat shirts Turn inside out if recommended by the manufacturer Close any zips fasten hooks and eyes etc before washing Fasten duvet covers to prevent smaller items rolling up inside them Do not wash any items in this machine whi

46. mperatures below freezing point Before using the machine for the first time check that the transit fit ting at the rear of the machine has been removed see section on Installation During spinning a transit fitting which is still in place may result in damage to both the machine and adjacent furni ture or appliances Turn off the stopcock if the ma chine is to be left for any length of time e g holiday especially if there is no floor drain gully in the immediate vicinity Flooding danger If hooking the drain hose into a wash basin check that the water can drain off quickly enough to prevent the sink from overflowing Make sure the drain hose is secure so that the force of the water flowing out of the hose does not dislodge it Other wise this will result in flooding Take care to ensure that foreign ob jects e g nails pins coins paper clips do not find their way into the ma chine with the washing These may damage components of the machine e g suds container drum which in turn can result in damage to the wash ing Warning and safety instructions If the correct amount of detergent is dispensed the machine should not need to be descaled If however you do wish to descale the machine only use proprietary non corrosive descaling agents and strictly observe the instructions on the packaging If in doubt contact the Miele Customer Ser vice Dept or your Miele Dealer Textiles whi

53. t ment amp Wash under running warm water Clean the siphon tube in the same way 2 Replace the siphon Over time detergent residue can build up in the water jets in the top of the de tergent drawer housing m Before replacing the detergent drawer use a bottle brush or similar to clean them out 35 Cleaning and care Cleaning the water inlet filters The washing machine has two filters to protect the inlet valves These filters should be checked every six months or so or more often if there are frequent interruptions to the water supply To clean the filter in the union in the open end of the inlet hose m First turn off the stopcock m Unscrew the threaded union connect ing the free end of the inlet hose to the stopcock m Remove the rubber seal 1 from the recess m Using pointed pliers take hold of the plastic filter bar 2 remove the filter and clean m Put the filter and seal back in the re verse order and reconnect the hose m Turn on the stopcock and check the connection is watertight 36 The inlet hose should be inspected regularly because it is subjected to high pressure while the machine is in operation It should be replaced if there are small cracks in the surface or if it has been otherwise damaged If replacing the inlet hose only use a hose able to withstand pressure of at least 70 bar Miele s own hoses meet this requirement To clean the filter in the water in

55. to suit your individual requirements Water plus system Selecting the Water plus additional option increases the water intake in the programmes listed below The water intake is increased in the wash and rinse stages and in the COT TONS and MINIMUM IRON programmes an extra rinse cycle is in troduced There are four different settings which can be programmed to alter the water intake for the following programmes COTTONS MINIMUM IRON Quick wash Mixed wash Silks The programmed setting is then acti vated by pressing the Water plus addi tional option button 60 The settings are as follows Setting 1 an increase in the rinse water level for the programmes listed Setting 2 an increase in the water level in the main wash and rinses for the programmes listed the washing ma chine is delivered with setting 2 pro grammed as standard Setting 3 an extra rinse cycle in the COTTONS and MINIMUM IRON programmes Setting 4 an increase in the water level in the main wash and rinses for the programmes listed and also an extra rinse cycle in the COTTONS and MINI MUM IRON programmes This setting should be programmed in if laundry is too hard after drying and if someone in the household suffers from a detergent allergy Steps to on the following page describe how to programme and store a setting in memory Programmable functions Follow steps to to programme
56. to be secured against slippage during spin using retaining clips available from the Miele Spare Parts Dept 48 Installing the washing machine To manoeuvre the machine out of its packing case to its installation site hold it by the edge of the lid where it pro trudes to the rear of the washing ma chine as well as by the handle recesses at the front Please note m Do not lift the machine by the drum door Ensure that the machine feet and the floor are dry to prevent the ma chine from slipping during the spin cycle Removing the transit fittings m To remove the left and right covers 1 Use a screwdriver to prise out the cover as illustrated 2 Pull the cover forwards to remove Installation and connection m Using the spanner supplied turn the m Turn the right hand transit bar 90 left hand transit bar 90 then then m withdraw the transit bar m withdraw the transit bar 49 Installation and connection The washing machine must not be moved without the transit bars in place Store the transit bars as shown or keep them in a safe place for future use They must be re fitted if the ma chine is to be moved again e g when moving house Re fitting the transit bars Re fitting is carried out by reversing the procedure m Fit the covers on to the two holes Then plug the holes as shown with the caps i i nin inn

58. upply in accordance with standard regulations In Germany the washing machine is not required to have a non return valve as it has been designed to comply with the relevant German DIN standard Connection to the mains water supply should incorporate a mains stopcock with 3 4 thread The stopcock should be fitted by a qualified plumber The approx 1 5 m long pressure hose should be connected to the stop cock via the threaded union This pressure hose is not suitable for connection to a hot water supply Please make sure the washer sits cor rectly in the union The connection point is subject to mains water pressure Turn on the stop cock slowly and check for leaks If replacing the inlet hose only use genuine Miele hoses These are tested to withstand pressure of at least 70 bar This also applies to all fixtures and fittings used Longer hoses 2 5 or 4 metres in length are available as optional extras The machine is designed to operate with a water flow pressure of 1 bar mini mum up to 10 bar maximum The static water pressure must not exceed 10 bar If itis higher than 10 bar it is essential to fit a reducer valve There is a minimum flow pressure of 1 bar pressure if 5 litres of water flow into a suitable container in 15 seconds The two dirt filters one in the open end of the inlet hose one at the inlet point in the solenoid valve must not be re moved 53 Installation and connection
