1. e Volume Do not use the FIRE 18 at a loud volume for a long time since this can cause hearing impairment Warning e Connecting cables and input and output jacks You should always turn off the power to the FIRE 18 and all other equipment before connecting Caution OF disconnecting any cables Also make sure to disconnect all connection cables and the power cord before moving the FIRE 18 Usage Precautions e Electrical interference For safety considerations the FIRE 18 has been designed to provide maximum protection against the emission of electromagnetic radiation from inside the device and protection from external interference However equipment that is very susceptible to interference or that emits powerful electromagnetic waves should not be placed near the FIRE 18 as the possibility of interference cannot be ruled out entirely With any type of digital control device the FIRE 18 included electromagnetic interference can cause malfunctioning and can corrupt or destroy data Care should be taken to minimize the risk of damage e Cleaning Use a soft dry cloth to clean the FIRE 18 If necessary slightly moisten the cloth Do not use abrasive cleanser wax or solvents such as paint thinner or cleaning alcohol since these may dull the finish or damage the surface Please keep this manual in a convenient place for future reference ZOOM Corporation Reproduction of this manual in whole or in part by any means is

This section controls the built in digital effects The FIRE 18 provides modulation effects and delay reverb effects 1 tee DELAY REVERB 2 eO 1 MODULATION key Switches the modulation effect on and off 2 DELAY REVERB key Switches the delay reverb effect on and off 3 VALUE A V keys Serve to change effect settings and values Patch section This section lets you store and recall effect patches It also serves to operate the built in tuner and noise reduction functions 3 4 5 6 MFO TF O lO PROGRAM BANK 3 eO Qe O18 1 MANUAL key 2 PROGRAM BANK key These keys switch between manual mode where you use the controls on the front panel to shape the sound and program mode where you use settings stored in preprogrammed patches When the MANUAL key is ON LED lit the manual mode is selected When the PROGRAM BANK key is ON LED lit the program mode is selected The default setting at power on is manual mode 6 ZOOM FIRE 18 Controls and Functions 3 Display Shows the number of the currently selected patch or the value of setting parameters of the FIRE 18 4 AV V keys Serve to switch between patches and to adjust ZNR ZOOM Noise Reduction 5 STORE key Stores the current settings as a user patch 6 EXIT key Cancels an operation and calls up the number of the currently selected patch onto the display 7 TUNER key This key

FIRE 18 Using effects Immediately after turning on the FIRE 18 the MANUAL key LED is lit and the internal effects modulation delay reverb are off This section explains how to activate the effects and use them to achieve various kinds of sound 1 Press the key for the desired effect in the effect section To use the modulation effect press the MODULATION key To use the delay reverb effect press the DELAY REVERB key The respective LED flashes and the indication oF effect off is shown on the display for 2 second a BDITA 2 While oF is shown press the same key once more If you press the key while oF is visible on the display the effect is turned on and the effect type and setting value are shown on the display For example if you press the MODULATION key in step 1 the effect type is shown as C chorus and the setting value as 1 l Effect type Setting value A Da 3 Use the VALUE A V keys to select the desired effect type and setting value You can select one effect from a number of choices for the modulation effect and the delay reverb effect and then you can adjust the intensity of the effect by setting the value of a parameter For information on effect types and setting values see page 17 page 20 To change the effect type and setting value proceed as follows e To increase or decrease the setting value by one step When you press one of the VALUE A

16. device E Changes in controls and jacks The following controls and jacks of the FIRE 18M are different from the FIRE 18 Front panel FIREIBM 1 PHONES jack A pair of headphones can be connected to this jack When a plug is inserted here mow wxw NINN the sound from the speaker is automatically cut off The FIRE 18 manual states that this jack can be used to connect a recording device or a pair of headphones but in the FIRE 18M the jack is a dedicated headphone jack Rear panel sein iss ie 1 RECORDING OUT BALANCE jack ee ron This is a balanced XLR output jack which can be used to supply a il ar i signal to the balanced input of a recorder or mixer 2 RECORDING OUT UNBALANCE PHONES jack This is an unbalanced TRS phone output jack which can be used to enuey jeyuawejddng W8t Ful4 NOOZ supply a signal to the unbalanced input of a recorder or mixer It can 1 2 3 4 also be used as an additional headphone jack The speaker is not cut off when a plug is inserted here 3 LINE LEVEL knob This control adjusts the line signal level at the RECORDING OUT jacks 1 and 2 If the knob is turned fully counterclockwise no line signal is output 4 MIC LEVEL knob This control adjusts the mic signal level at the RECORDING OUT jacks 1 and 2 If the knob is turned fully counterclockwise no mic signal is output E Using the signal from the internal mic T
17. he FIRE 18M has a microphone and dedicated preamplifier built into the cabinet to allow direct pickup of the sound from the loudspeaker The sound from the mic is mixed with the internal line signal of the amplifier and supplied directly to the RECORDING OUT jacks This section explains how to supply the mic signal to an external recorder or other device via the RECORDING OUT jacks ZOOM FIRE 18M 3 jenuey jeyuaweddng W8L J814 NWOOZ 1 With the level knobs on the rear panel turned fully down connect the recorder mixer or other external device to the RECORDING OUT jack For information on how to connect your instrument and how to use the front panel controls see the FIRE 18 manual If you plug a pair of headphones into the PHONES jack on the front panel the speaker is cut off and the mic will pick up no sound and therefore deliver almost no signal N Adjust the MASTER knob on the FIRE 18M to obtain a suitable volume If the volume setting is too high or too low the mic will not produce a proper signal Start with the MASTER knob in the center 12 o clock position and make adjustments as required by the playing environment Depending on the guitar and the amplifier settings the output from the power amplifier and speaker may be distorted The sound picked up by the mic may also be unpleasant in such a case but this is not a defect 9 Adjust the MIC LEVEL and LINE LEVEL knobs to obtain the desired balance
