2. 12 Position the rack s properly before turning on the oven To change rack position lift rack at front and pull out For further information see Positioning racks and pans on page 9 Push in and turn the Oven Temperature Control counterclockwise to the baking roasting temperature you want The oven burner will automatically light in 50 60 seconds When baking preheat the oven for 10 minutes Put food in the oven NOTES e Do not preheat when roasting or cooking items such as casseroles e Do not place food directly on the oven bottom During baking roasting the oven burner will turn on and off to maintain the tem perature setting When baking roasting is done turn the Oven Temperature Control clockwise to OFF USING YOUR RANGE Adjusting the oven temperature control Oven temperature controls will gradually shift after years of use So even though your new oven is properly adjusted to provide accurate temperatures it may cook faster or slower than your old oven If after using the oven for a period of time you are not satisfied with the temperature settings you can adjust them by following these steps 1 Make sure the Oven Temperature Control Knob is turned to the off position Pull knob straight off and flip it over Loosen the locking screws inside the control knob Note the position of the notches To lower the temperature hold knob handle fir

Replace surface burner grates 18 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Surface burners 1 Lift up the cooktop following the instruc tions above 2 Before cleaning remove screws that hold each of the burners in place The screws prevent the burners from moving during shipment Remove the shipping screws with a Phillips screwdriver lift the burner up tilt it to one side at the end closest to the ignitor and move it toward the back of the range This separates the burner from the gas valve at the front of the range so it can be easily removed 3 Wipe off surface burners with warm soapy water and a sponge after each use To remove cooked on food soak the burners in a vinegar and water solution for 20 30 minutes Scrub with a plastic scrubbing pad 4 If ports are clogged clean with a straight pin DO NOT enlarge or distort the ports DO NOT use a toothpick to clean the ports 5 Before putting the burners back dry them thoroughly by setting them in a warm oven for 30 minutes 6 Replace burners making sure they are properly seated and level Replace Screws 7 Occasionally check the burner flames for proper size and shape as shown A good flame is blue in color If flames lift off ports are yellow or are noisy when turned off you may need to clean the burners see above or call a qualified technician for adjustment Typical surface burner flame at the highest setting CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Removing t

COMMENDED USE e To light the burner After the burner lights turn control back to a desired setting e To start foods cooking e To bring liquids to a boil e To hold a rapid boil To fry chicken or pancakes e For gravy pudding and icing e To cook large amounts of vegetables LO e To keep food warm until ready to serve NOTE Do not cook with the control in the LITE position In case of a prolonged power failure Surface burners with electric ignitors can be manually lighted Hold a lit match near a burner and slowly turn the control knob on until the burner lights After the burner lights turn the control knob to the desired setting Power failures will not affect stand ing pilots Do not attempt to operate an electric ignition oven during a power failure AWARNING Burn Fire and Explosion Hazard e Burner flame should not extend beyond the edge of the cooking utensil The flame could burn you and cause poor cooking results Be sure all contro knobs are turned to OFF when you are not cooking Someone could be burned or a fire could start if a burner is accidentally left ON e f the flame should go out while cook ing or if there is a strong gas odor turn the burners OFF Wait five minutes for the gas odor to disappear before relighting burner If gas odor is still present see safety note on page 3 Failure to follow these precautions could result in explosion or fire

Product Damage Hazard Do not leave an empty utensil or one which has boiled dry on a hot surface burner The utensil could overheat and could damage the utensil or cooking product Cookware tips No one brand of cookware is best for all people Knowing something about pan materials and construction will help you select the correct cookware for your needs e NOTE For best results and greater fuel efficiency use only flat bottomed cookware in good condition e The pan should have straight sides and a tight fitting lid e Choose medium to heavy gauge thick ness pans that are fairly lightweight e The pan material metal or glass affects how fast heat transfers from the surface burners through the pan material and how evenly heat spreads over the pan bottom Choose pans that provide the best cooking results e Handles should be made of a sturdy heat resistant material and be securely attached to the pan e Pans should be easy to clean Check to be sure there are no crevices rough edges or areas where food might collect e Be sure pans do not tip whether they are full or empty e Use cookware only as it was intended to be used Follow pan instructions This is very important for glass cookware because some should be used only in the oven Other pans are marked as flameware and may be used on the surface burners USING YOUR RANGE Home canning information The larger diameter of most water bath or pressure cann

RUCTIONS e Do not wear loose or hanging garments when using the range They could ignite if they touch an open flame and you could be burned e Use only dry potholders Moist or damp potholders on hot surfaces could result in burns from steam Do not let potholder touch an open flame Do not use a towel or bulky cloth for a potholder It could catch on fire e Keep range vents unobstructed e Do not heat unopened containers They could explode The hot contents could cause burns and container particles could cause injury e Do not store flammable materials on or near the range The fumes could create an explosion and or fire hazard Do not use the oven for storage e Do not use aluminum foil to line area around surface burners oven bottom or any other part of the range Use alumi num foil only as recommended in this manual e Never use a match or other flame to look for a gas leak Explosion and injury could result e Know where your main gas shutoff valve is located When using the cooktop Make sure the utensils you use are large enough to contain tood and avoid boilovers and spillovers Heavy splatter ing or spillovers left on a range could ignite and burn you Pan size is espe cially important in deep fat frying IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS e Check to be sure glass cooking utensils are safe for use on the range Only certain types of glass glass ceramic ceramic earthenware or other glazed ute

18. d will be close to hot surfaces including oven bottom and sides Failure to follow the above precautions could result in personal injury continued on next page USING YOUR RANGE Extra oven rack position roasting rack When roasting food too large to be placed in oven with rack in lowest position place rack on bottom of oven For proper roasting follow these guidelines The rack must be level e Use adequate amount of liquid meat juices or water so food does not get overdone Da Do not try to pull rack out over door Extra oven rack Rack will be at the same level as door position when door is opened For best air circulation Hot air must circulate around the pans in the oven for even heat to reach all parts of the oven This results in better baking e Place the pans so that one is not directly over the other e For best results allow 11 2 inches 4 5 cm of space around each pan and between pans and oven walls There must be a minimum space of 1 inch 2 5 cm e Use only one cookie sheet in the oven at one time Use the following as a guide to determine where to place the pans One pan Place in the center of the oven rack Two pans Place in opposite corners of the oven rack Three or four pans Place in opposite corners on each oven rack Stagger pans so no pan is directly over another USING YOUR RANGE Lighting standing pilots models FGP320Y FGP320A FLP
19. ed efficiently Here are some tips longer cooking times and unsatisfactory to help you save energy when using your baking results Rely on your timer to keep cooking product track of the cooking time e Use pans with flat bottoms straight sides e Bake cakes pies or cookies when oven is and tight fitting lids warm Best time to bake is right after a Cook with a minimum of liquid or fat to meal has been cooked in the oven help shorten cooking time e Preheat the oven no longer than Preheat pans only when recommended necessary and for the shortest time possible e Plan your meals for the most efficient use e Start food on higher heat settings then of the range When using the oven to cook set surface burner control on low to finish one food try to cook the rest of the meal in cooking it also e Use the more efficient surface burners e Do not preheat when broiling roasting or instead of the oven when possible cooking items such as casseroles The oven vent Hot air and moisture escape from the oven through a vent located under the backguard The vent is needed for air circulation Do not block the vent Poor baking roasting will result Oven vent NOTE Never store plastics paper or other items that could melt or burn near the oven vent or any of the surface burners AWARNING Burn Hazard When the oven is ON pans and pan handles teft near the oven vent could become hot enough to burn the user and to melt plastics
20. ers combined with high heat settings for long periods of time can cause damage to the cooktop To protect your range e For best results use a canner which can be centered over the surface burner Do not place canner on two surface burners at the same time Too much heat will build up and will damage the cooktop Start with hot water This reduces the time the control is set on high Reduce heat setting to lowest position needed to keep water boiling Refer to your canner manual for specific instructions Positioning racks and pans For baking roasting with one rack place the rack so the top of the food will be centered in the oven Rack placement for specific foods Frozen pies large 1st or 2nd rack roasts turkeys guide from bottom Angel and bundt cakes 2nd rack guide most quick breads from bottom yeast breads casse roles meats 2nd or 3rd rack guide from bottom Cookies biscuits muffins cakes nonfrozen pies When baking on two racks arrange racks on first and third rack guides from bottom AWARNING Personal Injury Hazard e Always position oven rack s in desired location before turning oven on Be sure the rack s is level e f rack s must be moved while oven is hot use potholders or oven mitts to protect hands e Do not place items on the open oven door e Be careful when installing and removing large food items from extra roasting rack position Foo
21. for efficient and safe use of your range Using the surface burners Your range is equipped with either standing Push in and turn pilots or electric ignitors Standing pilots counterclockwise must be lit initially with a match following the directions on page 11 The pilot light will remain lit when the burners are turned off To turn a burner on again just push in and turn the control knob to LITE and the burner will light Electric ignitors automatically light the burners each time the control knob is turned to LITE Push in the control knob and turn counterclockwise to the LITE position On electric ignitor models the clicking sound is the ignitor sparking Visually check that burner has lit After the burner lights turn the control knob to the desired setting You can set the control knob anywhere between HI and LO Surface burner markers The solid dot in the surface burner marker shows which surface burner is turned on by that knob Burner heat settings Use correct burner heat settings see next page If the heat setting is too high it can e Char bacon and cause curling e Make eggs tough and crisp at the edges e Toughen liver fish and seafood e Scorch delicate sauces and custards Cause a boilover USING YOUR RANGE Until you get used to the settings use the following as a guide For best results start cooking at the high setting then turn the control knob down to continue cooking SETTING RE
22. he oven door Removing the oven door will help make it easier to clean the oven AWARNING Burn and Electrical Shock Hazard Make sure all controls are OFF and the oven is cool before removing oven door Failure to do so could result in burns or electrical shock To remove 1 Open the door as far as it will go 2 Remove the screws on each side of the oven door 3 Close the door about of the way 4 Lift the door up and off the hinges To replace 1 Be sure the hinge arms are in the open position Be careful if pulling the hinges open by hand Hinges may snap back against the oven frame and could pinch fingers 2 Hold the door at the sides near the top Insert hinge arms into slots at the bottom of the door Insert arms evenly as far as they will go 3 If the door is not in line with the oven frame remove it and repeat the above steps 4 Replace the screws on the oven door Hinge arm 20 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Removing the oven bottom The panel in the oven bottom can be removed for cleaning or to light the burner pilot AWARNING Burn Hazard Make sure all parts are cool before removing Failure to do so could result in burns To remove 1 Remove oven racks 2 Remove the two hold down screws at the rear of the oven If screws are too tight to remove by hand use a screwdriver 3 Place fingers in slots in bottom panel and lift rear of panel up and back until l
23. ip at the front of panel is clear of front frame of oven cavity 4 Lift bottom up and out To replace 1 Place oven bottom panel in oven with the back raised about 6 inches or until you can insert the hold down lip at front of panel under the front frame of oven cavity 2 Push back of oven bottom panel down fully into place on metal flanges on rear wall and insert the hold down screws 24 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Cleaning chart Use the following table to help you clean all parts of your range PART WHAT TO USE HOW TO CLEAN Control knobs Sponge and warm e Turn knobs to OFF and pull straight away soapy water from control panel e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly Do not soak e Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleans ers They may damage the finish of the knobs e Replace knobs Make sure all knobs point to OFF e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly e Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleans ers They may damage the finish e Do not spray cleaner directly on panel Apply cleaner to paper towel e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly e Use nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad on heavily soiled areas e Do not use abrasive or harsh cleansers They may damage the finish NOTE Do not allow foods containing acids such as vinegar tomato or lemon juice to remain on surface Acids may remove the glossy finish Also wipe up milk or egg spills when cooktop is cool
