2. must warrant the emission control system on your equipment SORE for the periods of time listed below provided there has been no abuse neglect or improper maintenance of your equipment SORE Your emission control system may include parts such as carburetor fuel injection system ignition system catalytic converter muffler fuel tank fuel feed lines fuel cap assembly spark plug air filters and other associated components Where a warrantable condition exists ECHO Inc will repair your equipment SORE at no cost to you including diagnosis parts and labor The Emission Control System warranty is extended to the original owner including all subsequent owners MANUFACTURER S WARRANTY COVERAGE The emission control system is warranted for 2 years or the length of the ECHO Inc warranty whichever is longer If any emission related part on your equipment is defective the part will be repaired or replaced by ECHO Inc or its Authorized Service Representative OWNER S WARRANTY RESPONSIBILITIES As the equipment SORE owner you are responsible for the performance of the required maintenance listed in your Operator s Manual ECHO Inc recommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your equipment SORE however ECHO Inc cannot deny warranty solely for the lack of receipts or for your failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled maintenance As the equipment SORE owner you should be aware that ECHO Inc may deny you warranty coverage

Reinstall the air cleaner cover Cutting Attachment Shield 1 Insert the cutting attachment shield between the outer tube and the cut ting attachment mounting plate NOTE It may be necessary to loosen the retaining nut and clamp screw to adjust cutting attachment shield mounting plate 2 Fit the two spacers and the bracket over the outer tube and loosely install the four socket head screws 3 Tighten the four socket head cap screws to secure the cutting attach ment shield CAUTION Make sure the clamp screw and retaining nut are securely tightened before tightening the four socket head cap screws WARNING NEVER operate the unit without the cutting attachment shield installed and tightly secured Remove air cleaner cover Cable Adjuster Adjust as required to obtail 4 6 mm free play Mm fs ae mi ME Sey eel Socket Head Cap Screws Spacer Cutting attachment shield assembly eee Mounting Plate Outer Tube Cutting Attachment Shield w subshield Sub Shield when trimmer head is in use 1 Attach the shield extension to the cut ting attachment shield WARNING NEVER use this machine without sub shield when using a trimmer head CAUTION Make sure the sub shield is com pletely hooked at the hook receiver Cutting Attachment Shield Sub shield Attach the shield extension to t
4. be flooded with fuel If flooding is suspected refer to the Starting a Flooded Engine sec tion of this manual E Advancing the throttle makes the cut ting attachment move faster releasing the throttle permits the attachment to stop moving If the cutting attachment continues to move when the engine returns to idle carburetor idle speed should be adjusted see Adjusting Engine Idle and pull recoil starter handle upward Make sure the attachment is clear of obstructions Open When the engine starts slowly move the choke lever to the OPEN position 11 Starting the Engine continued Starting A Flooded Engine 1 Slide the ignition switch to the I ON position 2 Open the choke put the throttle lever in the full throttle position then clear excess fuel from the combustion chamber by cranking the engine several times 3 Ifthe engine still fails to start or fire refer to the troubleshooting flow chart at the end of this manual Stopping the Engine 1 Idle the engine briefly before stop ping about 2 minutes 2 Slide the ignition switch to the O Engine OFF position Checking Unit Condition NEVER operate the unit with the cut ting attachment shield or other protec tive devices removed Use only authorized Shindaiwa parts and accessories with your Shindaiwa trimmer Do not make modifications to this unit without written approval

6. the cutting attachment shield is properly installed before operating this unit Cut from left to right Cut ESN P Return WARNING Remove all objects such as rocks broken glass nails wire or string which can be thrown or become entangled in the cutting attachment CAUTION E Operation of trimmer without a cut ting attachment shield and using excessive line length can lead to premature clutch failure E Operation at low rpm can lead to premature clutch failure Brushcutter Shoulder Strap A shoulder strap provides additional pro tection against blade thrust In addition a shoulder strap gives significant support and comfort to help ensure safe and effi cient operation When operating a unit with a blade make sure both the handle and shoulder strap are adjusted to the size of the operator using the unit 13 Blade Thrust Blade thrust is a sudden sideways or backward motion of the brushcutter Such motion may occur when the blade jams or catches on an object such as a sapling tree or tree stump BE CON STANTLY ALERT FOR BLADE THRUST AND GUARD AGAINST ITS EFFECTS WARNING Blade thrust can occur with out warning if the blade snags stalls or binds Using a blade The blade rotates counter clockwise For best performance and to minimize being stuck by debris move the blade from right to left while advancing on your work Position the blade so cuts

8. 13738 and J A S O M345 FD certified oil will void the engine warranty For increased engine protection Shindaiwa recommends using Shindaiwa Red Armor harmful carbon build up maintain engine performance and increase engine life Shindaiwa Red Armor ISO L EGD and J A S 0 M345 FD performance requirements IMPORTANT Shindaiwa One 2 Stroke oil or Red Armor engine oil may be mixed at 50 1 ratio for application in all Shindaiwa engines sold in the past regardless of ratio specified in those manuals IMPORTANT Stored fuel ages Do not mix more fuel than you expect to use in thirty 30 days ninety 90 days when a fuel stabilizer is added Use of unmixed improp erly mixed or stale fuel may cause hard starting poor performance or severe engine damage and void the product warranty Read and follow instructions in the Long Term Storage section of this manual engine oil to protect the engine from engine oil exceeds Examples of 50 1 mixing quantities a to Oil Mix 50 1 Ratio r OL Gallons Fl oz Liter Handling Fuel A DANGER Fuel is VERY flammable Use extreme care when mixing storing or handling or serious personal injury may result e Use an approved fuel container e DO NOT smoke near fuel DO NOT allow flames or sparks near fuel e Fuel tanks cans may be under pressure Always loosen fuel caps slowly allowing pressure to equalize e NEVER refuel a unit when the engine is HOT or RUN

NING e DO NOT fill fuel tanks indoors ALWAYS fill fuel tanks outdoors over bare ground e DO NOT overfill fuel tank Wipe up spills immediately e Securely tighten fuel tank cap and close fuel container after refueling e Inspect for fuel leakage If fuel leakage is found do not start or operate unit until leakage is repaired e Move at least 3m 10 ft from refueling location before starting the engine Mixing Instructions 1 Fill an approved fuel container with half of the required amount of gasoline 2 Add the proper amount of engine oil to gasoline 3 Close container and shake to mix oil with gaso After use DO NOT store a unit with fuel in its tank Leaks can occur Return unused fuel to an approved fuel stor age container line Storage Fuel storage laws vary by locality Contact 4 Add remaining gasoline close fuel container and your local government for the laws affecting your area remix As a precaution store fuel in an approved airtight container Store in a well ventilated unoccupied build ing away from sparks and flames Stored fuel may separate ALWAYS shake fuel container thoroughly before each use IMPORTANT Spilled fuel is a leading cause of hydrocarbon emissions Some states may require the use of automatic fuel shut off containers to reduce fuel spillage Filling the Fuel Tank 1 Place the unit on a flat level surface WARNING m ALWAYS store gasoline in 2 Clear any dirt or other d

PAIR OF EMISSION CONTROL DEVICES AND SYSTEMS MAY BE PERFORMED BY ANY REPAIR ESTABLISHMENT OR INDIVIDUAL HOWEVER WARRANTY REPAIRS MUST BE PERFORMED BY A DEALER OR SERVICE CENTER AUTHORIZED BY ECHO INC THE USE OF PARTS THAT ARE NOT EQUIVALENT IN PERFOR MANCE AND DURABILITY TO AUTHORIZED PARTS MAY IMPAIR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM AND MAY HAVE A BEARING ON THE OUTCOME OF A WARRANTY CLAIM NOTE Using non standard replacement parts could invalidate your Shindaiwa warranty WARNING Before performing any main tenance repair or cleaning work on the unit make sure the engine and cutting attachment are completely stopped Disconnect the spark plug wire before performing service or maintenance 14 WARNING Non standard accessories cut ting attachment or replacement parts may not operate properly with your unit and may cause damage and lead to personal injury Maintenance continued Muffler This unit must never be operated with a faulty or missing spark arrester or muffler Make sure the muffler is well secured and in good condition A worn or damaged muffler is a fire hazard and may also cause hearing loss Spark Plug Keep the spark plug and wire connec tions tight and clean Fasteners Make sure nuts bolts and screws except carburetor adjusting screws are tight Daily maintenance Prior to each work day perform the following E Remove all dirt and debris from the eng

13. and E Engine Outer tube assembly and tool kit for routine maintenance Tool kits vary by model LH right right hand and RH E Handlebar and Throttle assembly front and rear refer to directions as E Cutting attachment shield viewed by the operator during normal operation Handlebar Assembly Install the handlebar 1 Remove four 4 upper cap retaining screws and remove upper cap from handlebar mounting bracket Strap Hanger 2 Place handlebar on mounting bracket and secure with upper cap and four 4 screws 3 Adjust handlebar position for best operator comfort and control then tighten upper and lower cap retain ing screws securely 4 Secure cable to outer tube with two 2 bands provided Outer Tube Handle Positioning Label Lower cap Lower Cap POSITION HANDLE Retaining Screws FORWARD OF THIS LINE Mounting the brushcutter handlebar Assembly continued Adjust throttle lever free play The throttle lever free play should be approximately 4 6 mm Make sure that the throttle lever operates smoothly without binding If it becomes necessary to adjust the lever free play follow the procedures and illustrations that follow 1 Loosen the air cleaner cover knob and remove the air cleaner cover 2 Loosen the lock nut on the cable adjuster 3 Turn the cable adjuster in or out as required to obtain proper free play 4 Tighten the locknut 5
14. are made between the blade s 8 o clock and 10 o clock positions as viewed from above DO NOT cut between the 10 o clock and 5 o clock positions General maintenance WARNING Blade thrust is more likely to occur in areas where it is difficult to see the material being cut Brushcutter Handlebar A brushcutter handlebar or barrier bar helps prevent the operator from moving forward or the unit moving rearward thus preventing inadvertent bodily con tact with the blade ALWAYS KEEP THE HANDLEBAR OR BARRIER BAR SECURELY IN PLACE ON THE UNIT WARNING When cutting wood with a blade feed the blade slowly never strike or slam a spinning blade against the wood WARNING DO NOT use 2 tooth or non Shindaiwa approved 4 tooth cutting blades with Shindaiwa trim mers and brushcutters Engine Operating Speeds Operate the unit at full throttle while cut ting Best fuel efficiency is obtained by releasing the throttle when swinging back after a cut E To prevent possible engine damage do not allow the brushcutter to run at high speeds without a load E Avoid operating the engine at low speeds Doing so can lead to rapid clutch wear In addition slow speed operation tends to cause grass and debris to wrap around the cutting head Ten O clock 25 Blade Rotation On OK To Cut Eight O clock Five O clock IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE REPLACEMENT OR RE

17. debris from the engine and check the cooling fins E Check the entire unit for leaking fuel or grease E Make sure nuts bolts and screws except carburetor idle speed adjust ing screws are tight 15 Maintenance continued 10 hour maintenance Perform more frequently in dusty or dirty conditions Remove the air cleaner filter Clean or replace as necessary To clean filter wash it thoroughly in soap and water Let it dry before reinstalling the filter CAUTION Do not operate the unit if the air cleaner or filter is damaged or if the filter is wet or water soaked 10 15 hour maintenance Remove and clean or replace the spark plug E Clean the spark plug Adjust electrode gap according to the values listed in the Specifications section If the spark plug must be replaced use only the type recommended in Specifica tions or equivalent resistor type spark plug of the correct heat range CAUTION Before removing the spark plug clean the area around the plug to prevent dirt and debris from getting into the engine s internal parts 50 hour maintenance Every 50 hours of operation more frequently in dusty conditions E Remove and clean the cylinder cover and clean dirt and debris from the cylinder cooling fins Gearcase lubrication E Remove and clean the cylinder cover and clean grass and dirt from the cylinder fins E Remove the cutting attachment cut ting attachment hold
18. e from the operating position 1 Slide the ignition switch to the I position 2 Press the primer bulb until fuel can be seen flowing in the trans parent return tube IMPORTANT The primer system only pushes fuel through the carburetor Repeatedly pressing the primer bulb will not flood the engine with fuel 3 Set the choke lever to the CLOSED position if engine is cold 4 While holding the outer tube firmly with left hand Use your other hand to slowly pull the recoil starter han dle until resistance is felt then pull quickly to start the engine CAUTION Do not pull the recoil starter to the end of the rope travel Pulling the recoil starter to the end of the rope travel can damage the starter 5 When the engine starts slowly move the choke lever to the OPEN posi tion If the engine stops after the ini tial start close the choke and restart WARNING The cutting attachment may move when the engine is started Keep your hands and your body away from the cutter assem bly while starting the engine When the Engine Starts E After the engine starts allow the engine to warm up at idle 2 or 3 min utes before operating the unit Slide the ignition switch to the I position Set the choke lever to the CLOSED position 4 J IMPORTANT If the engine fails to start after several attempts with the choke in the closed position the engine may
19. ebris from Minimize the Risk of Fire E NEVER smoke or light fires near the engine E ALWAYS stop the engine and allow it to cool before refueling ALWAYS Wipe all spilled fuel and move at least 3 meters 10 feet from the fueling point and source before starting E NEVER place flammable material close to the engine muffler E NEVER operate the engine without the muffler and spark arrester screen in place and in good working condition E FUEL IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE 10 a container approved for flammable liquids ALWAYS inspect the unit for fuel leaks before each use During each refill check that no fuel leaks from around the fuel cap and or fuel tank If fuel leaks are evident stop using the unit immediately Fuel leaks must be repaired before using the unit ALWAYS move the unit at least 3 meters 10 feet away from a fuel storage area or other readily flam mable materials before starting the engine around the fuel filler cap Remove the fuel cap and fill the CAUTION Slowly remove the fuel cap only after stopping the engine tank with clean fresh fuel Reinstall the fuel filler cap and tighten firmly Wipe away any spilled fuel before starting engine Starting the Engine IMPORTANT Engine ignition is controlled by a two position switch mounted on the throttle housing labeled I for ON or START and O for OFF or STOP WARNING Never start the engin
20. er A shart Bolt Holder B Gear Shaft Bolt Guard Holder A 3 Using the hex wrench to secure Holder A install and hand tighten the trimmer head counter clockwise to install 4 Remove the hex wrench from the gearcase and holder Hand tighten Trimmer Head counter clockwise to install ra E Ema SY 5 E 2 l a E A XG A Hex Wrench 7 b al 4 This unit is now completely assembled and ready to use as a trimmer Shaft Bolt e _ 3 Bolt Guard Holder B Gear Shaft Holder A Hex wrench Temporarily lock the output shaft by inserting a hex wrench through both holes 4 Install blade holder B on the output shaft WARNING Holder B must fit flush against the blade and the splines engaged to the output shaft Output Shaft Sel Blade Holder B Install blade holder B on the output shaft Assembly continued CAUTION Install the blade so its printed sur face is visible to the operator when the brushcutter is in the normal operating position IMPORTANT Discard blades that are bent warped cracked broken or damaged in any way Use a sharp blade A dull blade is more likely to snag and thrust Mixing Fuel A WARNING Install the bolt guard and then the blade retaining bolt Using the com bination spark plug wrench screw driver tighten the bolt firmly in a co
21. er and gear shaft collar Remove the filler plug from the side of the gearcase and press new grease into the gearcase until old grease is pushed out Use only lithium base grease such as Shindaiwa Gearcase Lubricant or equivalent E Lubricate mainshaft splines 16 Unscrew Fastener Remove and clean or replace the element Air Filter Element 0 6 mm 0 024 inch Clean the spark plug and check the gap at the electrode New grease Old grease co Gear shaft collar Lubricate gearcase Maintenance continued 50 hour maintenance Remove and replace the fuel filter element Before reinstalling the new filter element Hooked wire inspect the condition of all the fuel sys tem components fuel pick up line fuel return line tank vent line tank vent fuel cap and fuel tank If damage splitting or deterioration is noted the unit should be removed from service until it can be inspected or repaired by a Shindaiwa trained service technician CAUTION Make sure you do not pierce the fuel line with the end of the hooked wire The line is delicate and can be Fuel filter maintenance damaged easily Fuel filter element Muffler maintenance Engine Cover Screws Muffler Cover Muffler Screws A x Gasket G Screws Spark Arreste Hails Spark Arr
