4. end and the console will return to the start up screen If the Stop Reset key is held down for 3 seconds the console will perform a complete Reset During data entry for a program the Stop Reset key performs a Previous Screen function This allows you to go back one step in the programming each time you press the Stop Reset key The Program Keys are used to preview each program When you first turn the console on you may press each program key to preview what the program profile looks like If you decide that you want to try a program press the corresponding program key and then press the Enter key to select the program and enter into the data setting mode The program keys also act as a Number Key Pad when you are in the data setting mode Under each program key is a number If you are setting new data such as Age weight etc you can use these keys to enter the numbers quickly Programming the console Each of the programs can be customized with your personal information and changed to suit your needs Some of the information asked for is necessary to ensure the readouts are correct You will be asked for your Age and Weight Entering your Age is necessary during the Heart Rate control programs to ensure the correct settings are in the program for your Age Otherwise the work settings could be too high or low for you Entering your Weight aides in calculating a more correct Calorie reading Although we cannot provide an exact calorie count we do

7. not to damage or pinch this wire during this procedure Damage to the electronic console could result Install and hand tighten the two 1 bolts through the front of the receiving tube into the console mast Using the two sided wrench tighten the three bolts and the fourth bolt which is pre installed firmly These bolts should be tightened as much as you possibly can Locate the electronic console and the four 1 2 X 1 4 Phillips head screws There will be three electrical wire connectors at the top opening of the console mast two 2 pin hand pulse sensors one 10 pin main wire harness Connect these to the mating connectors on the back of the console The connectors are keyed so you cannot plug them in the wrong way so do not force them Storing the excess wire back into the console mast carefully install the console onto the mounting plate and secure using the four Phillips head screws HANDLE BAR ASSEMBLY 1 Remove the hardware from the hardware pack for step 3 You should have two 5 8 X 3 8 bolts two large flat washers two large wave washers and six self tapping Phillips head screws Locate and install the two large wave washers onto the handle bar axle one on each side Slide the left and right handle bars onto the appropriate side of the axle There is a sticker on each handle bar indicating L for left and R for right Put the large flat washers onto the two 5 8 X 3 8 bolts and install and

9. pace will feel harder Again this will show up in your RPE and you will train at the proper level for that day 34 EL3 EL5 Elliptical Using a Heart Rate Transmitter How to wear your wireless chest strap transmitter 1 Attach the transmitter to the elastic strap using the locking parts 2 Adjust the strap as tightly as possible as long as the strap is not too tight to remain comfortable 3 Position the transmitter with the POLAR logo centered in the middle of your body facing away from your chest some people must position the transmitter slightly left of center Attach the final end of the elastic strap by inserting the round end and using the locking parts secure the transmitter and strap around your chest 4 Position the transmitter immediately below the pectoral muscles 5 Sweat is the best conductor to measure very minute heart beat electrical signals However plain water can also be used to pre wet the electrodes 2 black square areas on the reverse side of the belt and either side of transmitter It s also recommended that you wear the transmitter strap a few minutes before your work out Some users because of body chemistry have a more difficult time in achieving a strong steady signal at the beginning After warming up this problem lessens As noted wearing clothing over the transmitter strap doesn t affect performance 6 Your workout must be within range distance between transmitter receiver to achieve a

12. tighten in the threaded holes in the ends of the axle Install the plastic covers over the handle bar axle connections with the six self tapping Phillips head screws STEP 4 FOOT PAD CONNECTING ARM ASSEMBLY This step may have already been performed at the factory on your unit 1 Remove the hardware from the hardware pack for step 4 You should have two 1 1 4 X 5 16 bolts two flat washers two Nylon nuts four 5 8 machine screws long four 3 8 machine screws short and two self tapping Phillips head screws On the pedal arms in the middle on top there are two axles already installed in the bushing housings Remove from one side of each axle the bolt one should be loose and washer Remove the axle and set aside for the next step Locate the left foot pad connecting arm Holding the rear of the foot pad with your right hand and the connecting arm just in front of the foot pad with your left hand place the foot pad over the bushing housing 12 EL3 EL5 Elliptical 9 Holding the axle removed in step 2 in one hand and the foot pad in the other line up the large hole in the side of the bracket under the foot pad with the hole in the bushing housing and insert the axle all the way until the washer is flush against the bracket You may have to wiggle the axle while moving the footpad slightly to get the axle to go in Take the bolt that you removed from the axle in step 2 AND INSTALL THE NEW ANTI R

Using the wrench provided tighten all six bolts securely Locate the four plastic covers XE150 XE350 only for the rear rail assembly and the one cover for the front stabilizer and install them using the six 5 8 X 1 4 screws and the Phillips head screw driver provided STEP 2 CONSOLE MAST ASSEMBLY 1 Remove the hardware from the hardware pack for step 2 You should have one 2 1 4 X 3 8 bolt one lock washer two 3 4 X 3 8 bolts two curved washers and four 1 2 X 1 4 Phillips head screws Locate the console mast and console mast cover and slide the cover onto the mast as far as it will go Make sure the cover is facing the correct way At the top opening of the main body of the elliptical is a wire harness Unravel and straighten out the wire harness and feed it into the bottom of the console mast tube and out of the top opening Install the console mast into the receiving bracket in the top of the main body NOTE there is one bolt already installed in the receiving bracket that will engage with the slot at the bottom of the console mast This needs to be tightened at the end along with the three other console mast bolts 11 EL3 EL5 Elliptical STEP 3 Put the flat washer onto the 2 1 4 bolt and the two curved washers onto the two 3 4 bolts Install and hand tighten the 2 1 4 bolt through the left side of the receiving tube into the console mast NOTE There is a wire running through the tube Be careful

18. am ends you may press Start to begin the same program again or Stop to exit the program or you can save the program you just completed as a custom user program by pressing a User key and following the instructions in the message window 36 EL3 EL5 Elliptical Maintenance 1 Wipe down all areas in the sweat path with a damp cloth after each workout 2 If a squeak thump clicking or rough feeling develops the main cause is most likely one of two reasons i The hardware was not sufficiently tightened during assembly All bolts that were installed during assembly need to be tightened as much as possible It may be necessary to use a larger wrench than the one provided if you cannot tighten the bolts sufficiently cannot stress this point enough 90 of calls to the service department for noise issues can be traced to loose hardware or the rear rails being dirty ii Dirt build up on the rear rails and polyurethane wheels are also a source of noise Noise from build up on the rails can cause a thumping sound that you would swear is coming from inside the main body of the machine because noise travels and is amplified in the tubing of the frame Clean the rails and wheels with a lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol Stubborn build up can be removed with your thumbnail or a non metallic scraper like the back edge of a plastic knife After cleaning apply a small amount of lubricant on the rails with your fingers or a lint free cloth You only nee
19. antages There are more variables involved in how hard you should workout than just heart rate Your stress level physical health emotional health temperature humidity the time of day the last time you ate and what you ate all contribute to the intensity at which you should workout If you listen to your body it will tell you all of these things The rate of perceived exertion RPE also know as the Borg scale was developed by Swedish physiologist G A V Borg This scale rates exercise intensity from 6 to 20 depending upon how you feel or the perception of your effort The scale is as follows Rating Perception of Effort 6 Minimal 7 Very very light 8 Very very light 9 Very light 10 Very light 11 Fairly light 12 Comfortable 13 Somewhat hard 14 Somewhat hard 15 Hard 16 Hard 17 Very hard 18 Very hard 19 Very very hard 20 Maximal You can get an approximate heart rate level for each rating by simply adding a zero to each rating For example a rating of 12 will result in an approximate heart rate of 120 beats per minute Your RPE will vary depending up the factors discussed earlier That is the major benefit of this type of training If your body is strong and rested you will feel strong and your pace will feel easier When your body is in this condition you are able to train harder and the RPE will support this If you are feeling tired and sluggish it is because your body needs a break In this condition your
