The blade can be sharpened with a file or on a grinding wheel Do not attempt to sharpen while on the mower e Tocheck blade balance you will need a 5 8 diameter steel bolt pin ora cone balancer When using a cone balancer follow the instructions supplied with bal ancer o Slide blade on to an unthreaded portion of the steel bolt or pin and hold the bolt or pin parallel with the ground If blade is balanced it should remain in a horizontal position If either end of the blade moves downward sharpen the heavy end until the blade is balanced NOTE Do not use a nail for balancing blade The lobes of the center hole may appear to be centered but are not CENTER HOLE EN 8 S ar 5 8 BOLT aci q FIG 15 TRANSAXLE COOLING Keep transaxle free from build up of dirt and chaff which can restrict cooling CHECK TRANSAXLE OIL LEVEL See Fig 16 e Block up rear axle securely or use a tractor jack s Remove left rear wheel by removing hub bolts Remove filler plug from transaxle Oil level must be even with plug threads H necessary fill with SAE 30 non detergent oil SO 100 Replace filler plug e Heassemble wheel to hub e For approximate capacity see PRODUCT SPECIFI CATIONS on page 3 of this manual TRANSAXLE FILLER PLUG SP IT LT nont n BATTERY See Fig 17 Your unit has a battery charging system which is sufficient for normal use However periodic charging of the battery
5. approximately 3 8 e Recheck side to side adjustment FIG 25 Fa o 4i SH p oc zu tr I Tx NUT G N LT nn FRONT LINKS 20 TO REPLACE MOWER DRIVE BELT MOWER DRIVE BELT REMOVAL See Fig 27 Park tractor on a level surface Engage parking brake o Remove four screws from LH mandrel cover and remove cover e Roli belt over the top of L H mandrel pulley e Remove belt from electric clutch pulley e Remove belt from idler pulleys 2 Remove any dirt or grass clippings which may have accumulated around mandrels and entire upper deck surface e heck primary idler arm and two idlers to see that they rotate freely e Besurespringis securely hooked to primary idler arm and bolt in mower housing MOWER DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION See Fig 27 install belt in both idlers Make sure beit is in both belt keepers at the idlers as shown e Install new belt onto electric clutch pulley s Roll belt into upper groove of H mandrel pulley e Carefully check beit routing making sure belt is in the grooves correctly and inside belt keepers e Heassemble L H mandrel cover LH MANDREL COVER SPRING ELECTAIC CLUTCH IDLER PULLEY PULLEYS PRIMARY IDLER ARM BOLT IN MOWER LH MANDREL MOWER DRIVE BELT See Fig 28 Park the tractor on level surface Engage parking brake e Remove mowerdrive belt See TO REPLACE MOWER DRIVE BELT in t

Tighten cable clamp screw securely TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL See Fig 40 The choke control has been preset at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary Check adjustmentas described below before loosening cable If adjustment is necessary proceed as follows e With engine not running move choke control located on dash panel to full CHOKE position e Remove air cleaner cover filter and spitback plate to expose carburetor choke see AIR FILTER in main tenance section e Choke should be closed If it is not loosen casing clamp screw and move choke cable until choke is Ene closed Tighten casing clamp screw se curely e Heassembie air cleaner 24 ihe IC Ein teas ined italia TO ADJUST CARBURETOR See Figs 41 and 42 The carburetor has been preset at the factory and adjust ment should not be necessary However minor adjust ment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel temperature altitude or load if the carburetor does need adjustment proceed as follows In general turning the mixture screw in clockwise de creases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a leaner fuel air mixture Turning the mixture screw out counterclock wise increases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a richer fuel air mixture INPORTANT DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES AND THE SEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF SCREW iS TURNED IN TOO TIGHT PRELIMINARY SETTING e Be sure you have a clean
7. neutral posi lon o Slowly depress clutch brake pedal to the point where the motion drive belt stops moving Hold clutch brake pedal inthis position and engage parking brake If belt begins to move after engaging parking brake reset parkingbrake by depressing clutch brake pedal slightly to next notch on parking brake e Stop engine Screw brake rod back into clevis until clevis pin is against rear edge of slot in brake arm Do not over tighten see IMPORTANT above Tighten jam nut against clevis e Replace access hole cover e Testtractorforproperstoppingdistance and declutching as stated above Readjust if necessary If proper adjustment cannot be attained further maintenance is al Contact your nearest authorized service center JAM NUT CLEVIS PIN IE t TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT See Fig 31 Park the tractor on level surface Engage parking brake For ease of service there is a belt installation guide decal on bottom of left footrest itis not necessary to remove mower BELT REMOVAL e Raise hood and disconnect BLACK grounding bat tery cable e Set parking brake to get belt slack e Remove mower drive belt from electric clutch pulley only See TO REPLACE MOWER DRIVE BELT in this section of this manual e Roll belt off transaxle pulley Roll beit off clutching idler pulleys then off engine pulley and front V idler pulley e Pull belt out of all beitkeepers BELT INSTALL
8. remove links e Slide mower forward and remove belt from electric clutch pulley e Slide mower out from under right side of tractor IMPORTANT IFANATTACHMENT OTHER THAN THE MOWER DECKISTOBEMOUNTED ON THETRACTOR REMOVE THE FRONT LINKS TO INSTALL MOWER Follow procedure described in INSTALL MOWER AND DRIVE BELT in the Assembly section of this manual ADJUSTMENT NUTS LIFT FRONT SUSPENSION SUSPENSION BRACKET ARMS FRONT MOWER CHASSIS SE BRACKET RETAINER SPRING ANTI SWAY RETAINER BAR SPRINGS FIG 23 with plug TO LEVEL MOWER HOUSING Adjust the mower while tractor is parked on level ground or driveway Make sure tires are properly inflated See PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS on page 3 of this manual lf tires are over or underinflated you will not properly adjust your mower SIDE TO SIDE ADJUSTMENT See Figs 23 and 24 e Raise mower to its highest position e Measure height from bottom of deck curl to ground level at front corners of mower Distance A should be the same distance A needs to be changed make adjustment on one side of mower only Raise one side of mower by tightening lift link adjust ment nut on that side e Lower one side of mower by loosening lift link adjust ment nut on that side NOTE Each half turn of adjustment nut will change deck level about 1 4 e Recheck level after adjusting BOTTOM OF CURE FIG 24 ELECTRIC CLUTCH PULL

19. air filter and the throttle control cable and choke are adjusted properly see above e With engine off turn idle mixture screw in clockwise closing it finger tight and then turn out counterclock wise 1 1 4 to 1 1 2 turns FINAL SETTING e Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes Make final adjustments with engine running and shift motion control lever in NEUTRAL position e With throttle control lever in SLOW position hold throttle lever against idle speed screw and adjust idle speed screw to obfain 1200 to 1400 RPM e While still holding throttle lever against idle speed screw turn idle mixture screw in clockwise until engine begins to die and then turn out counterclock wise until engine runs rough Turn screw to a point midway between those two positions e Continue to hold throttle lever against idle speed screw and adjust idle speed screw to obtain 800 to 1200 RPM Release throttle lever _ACCELERATION TEST s Move throttle control lever from SLOW to FAST position If engine hesitates or dies turn idle mixture screw out counterclockwise 1 8 turn Repeat test and continue to adjust if necessary until engine accel erates smoothly High speed stop is factory adjusted Do not adjust damage may result 25 IMPORTANT NEVER TAMPER WITH THE ENGINE GOVERNOR WHICH IS FACTORY SET FOR PROPER ENGINE SPEED OVERSPEEDING THE ENGINE ABOVE THE FACTORY HIGH SPEED SETTING CAN BE DANGEROU
