NOTE If the charger does not charge the battery pack under normal circumstances return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Authorized Service Center for electrical check E Charge the battery pack only with the charger provided E Make sure the power supply is normal household voltage 120 volts 60 Hz AC only E Connect the charger to the power supply E Place the battery pack in the charger aligning raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the charger See Figure 2 E Press down on the battery pack to be sure contacts on the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the charger E Normally the red LED on charger will come on This indicates the charger is in fast charging mode E Red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour then the green LED will come on Green LED on indicates battery pack is fully charged and charger is in maintenance charge mode NOTE The green LED will remain on until the battery pack is removed from the charger or charger is disconnected from the power supply E If both yellow and green LEDs come on this indi cates a deeply discharged or defective battery pack Allow the battery pack to remain in the charger for 15 to 30 minutes When the battery pack reaches normal voltage range the red LED should come on If the red LED does not come on after 30 minutes this may indicate a defective battery pack that should be replaced E After normal usage a minimum of 1 hour of
3. connected and properly used Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards E Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry Contain long hair Loose clothes jewelry or long hair can be drawn into air vents E Do not use on a ladder or unstable support Stable footing on a solid surface enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations POWER TOOL USE AND CARE E Do not force the power tool Use the correct power tool for your application The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed E Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired E Disconnect the plug from the power source and or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments changing accessories or storing power tools Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally E Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users E Maintain power tools Check for misalignment or bind ing of moving parts breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool s operation If damaged have the power tool repaired before use Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power
4. solution such as that used in glass cleaners Before using any cleaning product check the label for recommended applications and follow the directions for use Never apply cleaner directly onto surface to be polished Apply to aclean cloth then use the cloth to clean the surface Do not use any type of abrasive cleanser as it may damage or scratch the surface A WARNING The drawstring must be tucked securely inside the bon net before turning the buffer polisher on Failure to do so could result in the drawstring being caught between the motor housing and orbiting pad increasing the risk of serious personal injury INSTALLING REMOVING APPLICATION BONNET See Figure 5 E Place the power switch in the OFF O position Remove battery pack from the tool Slip application bonnet edges over pad Tie bonnet strings securely To remove untie bonnet strings and pull bonnet edges over and off pad DEPRESS LATCHES TO RELEASE BATTERY PACK Lae A BATTERY PACK LATCHES PULL POLISHING BONNET EDGES OVER PAD TO INSTALL TIE STRINGS SECURELY AND TUCK LOOSE ENDS UNDERNEATH PAD APPLYING POLISH TO THE APPLICATION BONNET Most polishes are either in paste or liquid form Before using any polish read all directions on appropriate applications and proper use OPERATION APPLICATION OF PASTE POLISH See Figure 6 Use a putty knife or other flat blunt object to apply approxi mately one rounded teaspoon
5. tools E Keep cutting tools sharp and clean Properly main tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control GENERAL SAFETY RULES Use the power tool accessories and tool bits etc in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed Use of the power tool for operations dif ferent from those intended could result in a hazardous situation BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE Ensure the switch is in the off position before insert ing battery pack Inserting the battery pack into power tools that have the switch on invites accidents Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack Use power tools only with specifically designated bat tery packs Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire When battery pack is not in use keep it away from other metal objects like paper clips coins keys nails screws or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire Under abusive conditions liquid may be ejected from the battery avoid contact If contact accidentally occurs flush with water If liquid contacts eyes addi
6. can damage weaken or destroy plastic which may result in serious personal injury Only the parts shown on the parts list are intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer All other parts should be replaced at an Authorized Service Center APPLICATION AND BUFFING POLISHING BONNETS Both the application and buffing polishing bonnets are reus able For maximum life and performance hand wash after use and allow them to air dry If needed the bonnets can be machine washed in cold water with a small amount of detergent then machine dried using low heat FOAM PAD Itis important that the pad retain its original shape and dimen sions Allow it to dry completely after each use Make sure to remove the bonnets wash them and store separately Polisher should be stored with the pad facing up in order to extend pad life and retain its shape Be careful not to use too much polish at one time If the pad becomes saturated it will not last as long BATTERY PACK REMOVAL AND PREPARATION FOR RECYCLING To preserve natural resources please recycle or dispose of batteries properly This product contains nickel cadmium batteries Local state or federal laws may prohibit disposal of nickel cadmium batteries in ordinary trash Consult your local waste authority for information regarding available recycling and or disposal options A WARNING Upon removal cover the battery pack s termi nals with heavy duty adhesive tap

8. tool operation or when blowing dust If operation is dusty also wear a dust mask A WARNING To avoid serious personal injury always remove the battery pack from the tool when cleaning or performing any maintenance GENERAL MAINTENANCE Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use Use clean cloths to remove dirt dust oil grease etc BATTERIES The battery pack for this tool is equipped with nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries Length of service from each charging will depend on the type of work you are doing The batteries in this tool have been designed to provide maximum trouble free life However like all batteries they will eventually wear out Do not disassemble battery pack and attempt to replace the batteries Handling of these batteries especially when wearing rings and jewelry could result in a serious burn To obtain the longest possible battery life we suggest the following m Remove the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use For battery storage longer than 30 days E Store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80 F E Store battery packs in a discharged condition 14 A WARNING Do not at any time let brake fluids gasoline petroleum based products penetrating oils etc come in contact with plastic parts Chemicals

12. charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack E The battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging This is normal and does not indicate a problem E Do not place the charger and battery pack in an area of extreme heat or cold They will work best at normal room temperature NOTE The charger and battery pack should be placed in a location where the temperature is more than 50 F but less than 100 F E When batteries become fully charged unplug the charger from power supply and remove the battery pack CHARGING A HOT BATTERY PACK When using the tool continuously the batteries in the battery pack will become hot You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge When the battery pack becomes discharged and is hot this will cause the green LED to come on instead of the red LED After 30 minutes reinsert the battery pack in the charger If the green LED continues to remain on return battery pack to your nearest Authorized Service Center for checking or replacing NOTE This situation only occurs when continuous use of the tool causes the batteries to become hot It does not occur under normal circumstances Refer to CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK for normal recharging of bat teries If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Authorized Service Center for elect

19. njury APPLICATIONS You may use this tool for the purposes listed below E Polishing and buffing cars boats RVs personal watercraft motorcycles hardwood floors and large furniture CAUTION If at any point during the charging process none of the LEDs are lit remove the battery pack from the charger to avoid damaging the product DO NOT insert another battery Return the charger and battery to your nearest service center for service or replacement LED FUNCTIONS OF CHARGER LED WILL BE ON TO INDICATE STATUS OF CHARGER AND BATTERY PACK E Red LED on Fast charging mode E Green LED on Fully charged and in maintenance charge mode E Green LED on When battery pack is inserted into charger indicates hot battery pack or that battery pack is out of normal temperature range E Yellow and Green LEDs on Deeply discharged or defective battery pack E No LED on Defective charger or battery pack CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK The battery pack for this tool has been shipped in a low charge condition to prevent possible problems Therefore you should charge it until the green LED on the front of the charger comes on NOTE Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged Allow several cycles operation followed by recharging for them to become fully charged OPERATION CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK If battery pack is within normal temperature range the red LED on charger will come on
20. of paste onto the bonnet Evenly spread the paste over the entire surface of the bonnet Do not apply paste directly to the surface being polished A WARNING Keep a firm grip on the tool with both hands at all times Failure to do so could result in loss of control leading to possible serious injury APPLICATION OF LIQUID POLISH See Figure 7 Apply a small circle of liquid about the size of a half dollar around the center of the bonnet followed by two more rings each slightly larger than the previous one After the first application the bonnet will not absorb as much polish Apply tworings of polish to the bonnet for subsequent applications using half of the initial quantity APPLY POLISH TO SURFACE See Figure 8 While holding the buffer polisher firmly against the surface slide the ON OFF switch to the ON position to the left Always start and stop the polisher on or against the surface being polished Begin by polishing larger flat surfaces such as the hood trunk and roof Use a broad sweeping motion in a crisscross pattern Do not press down on the surface with the polisher Let the orbital action of the pad and bonnet do the work Once flat surfaces have been covered polish curved surfaces such as car doors and quarter panels Use small circular motions After applying polish to the entire surface turn buffer pol isher off Wait until the pad stops rotating before lifting the buffer polisher from the su

22. rface For hard to reach areas such as the underside of bumpers or side mirrors apply polish by hand OPERATION CHANGE TO BUFFING POLISHING BONNET See Figure 9 Remove the battery pack from the buffer polisher and re move the application bonnet by loosening the drawstring and slipping the bonnet off the pad Replace with buffing polishing bonnet attaching it the same way as the applica tion bonnet Buff the surface in the same order as it was polished starting with large flat surfaces and ending with hard to reach areas Use the same motion as for polishing abroad sweeping criss cross pattern on large flat areas and small circular motions on all other areas Remember to let the tool do the work TEA At a hg AY Ln pi T AY Ki A WARNING Check polishing bonnets before each use Make sure they are clean and free from any loose particles or foreign objects that may be embedded in the bonnet Failure to do so could cause these particles or objects to be thrown from the tool resulting in possible serious injury A WARNING To prevent loss of control and possible serious personal injury always operate the tool with both hands keeping one hand on the handle 13 MAINTENANCE A WARNING When servicing use only identical replacement parts Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage A WARNING Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power
23. rical check STARTING STOPPING THE BUFFER POLISHER See Figures 3 E To start the buffer polisher place the power switch in the ON I position E To stop the buffer polisher place the power switch in the OFF O position TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK See Figure 4 E Place the power switch in the OFF O position E Place the battery pack in the tool E Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap in place and that battery pack is secured in the tool before beginning operation BATTERY PACK SHOWN IN CHARGER SWITCH OPERATION CAUTION When placing battery pack in the tool be sure raised rib on battery pack aligns with the slot in the buffer pol isher and latches into place properly Improper installa tion of the battery pack can cause damage to internal components TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK See Figure 4 E Place the power switch in the OFF O position E Locate latches on side of battery pack and depress both sides to release battery pack m Remove battery pack from the tool A WARNING Battery tools are always in operating condition Therefore switch should always be in the OFF O position when not in use or carrying at your side PREPARE THE SURFACE For best results the surface should be clean and dry Most high gloss surfaces can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution For removal of stubborn dirt such as road tar grease and bug stains you can use a mild ammonia
