1. Power Cord Cushioned Walking Platform for maximum exercise comfort Incline Wheel ASSEMBLY Assembly requires two persons Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed Note The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high performance lubricant During shipping a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton This is a normal condition and does not affect treadmill performance If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner Assembly requires the included allen wrenches and your own phillips screwdriver gt rubber mallet Y wire cutters and needlenose pliers a To identify small parts during assembly use the PART IDENTIFICATION CHART in the center of this manual 1 Make sure that the power cord is unplugged Hazardous Voltage Risk of Electric Shock Unplug Treadmill before Assembly IDisassembly With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 11 until the treadmill is in the position shown 2 Insert one of the Extension Legs 62 into the treadmill as shown Note It may be helpful to tip the Uprights 11 in the direction shown by the arrow as you insert the Extension Leg Make sure that the Base Pad 40 is

Frame 2 Hold the treadmill firmly with both hands and lower the tread mill to the floor Do not drop the treadmill frame to the floor To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight 12 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below Find the symptom that applies and follow the steps listed If further assistance is needed please call our Customer Service Department toll free at 1 800 999 3756 Monday through Friday 6 a m until 6 p m Mountain Time excluding holidays PROBLEM SOLUTION PROBLEM SOLUTION PROBLEM SOLUTION The power does not turn on a Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet see page 8 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 8 Important The treadmill is not compatible with GFCl equipped outlets After the power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console frame near the power cord If the switch protrudes e as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Tripped The power turns off during use a C d Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill fr

6. remove the key from the console Keep the key in a secure place 44 WARNING Removing the key does not cut off power to the incline sys tem To prevent movement of the treadmill and possible injury unplug the power cord when the treadmill is not in use HOW TO USE THE UPPER BODY ARMS As you walk on the treadmill you can either hold the handrails or use the upper body arms To exercise your arms shoulders and back for a total body workout move the upper body arms forward and back as you walk on the treadmill 723 45 To vary the intensity of your upper body exercise the resistance of the upper body arms can be adjusted To increase the resis tance turn the resistance knobs clockwise to decrease the re sistance turn the knobs counterclockwise Resistance Knobs HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the tread mill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical posi tion 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left hand pull the
7. and place only a sealed water bottle in the water bottle holder STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION Before operating the console make sure that the power cord is properly plugged in see page 8 Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key see the drawing above and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes Pulse Sensor Insert the key fully into the console After a moment the displays will light Test the clip by carefully tak ing a few steps backward until the key is pulled from the console If the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip Follow the steps below to operate the console 1 Insert the key fully into the console A few seconds after the key is inserted the dis plays will light Press the Start button or the Speed button to start the walking belt A moment after the button is pressed the walking belt will begin to move Hold the handrails and begin walking As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed buttons Each time a button is pressed the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if a button is held down the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers see SPEED DISPLAY on page 10 For simplicity all instructions in this section refer to miles To sto
8. burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC 165 155 145 140 130 125 115 MAX FAT BURN 145 138 130 125 118 110 103 FAT BURN 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 Age 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise To measure your heart rate during exercise use the pulse sensor If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a rela tively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest n
9. button insert the key into the console and FAT CALS PULSE 10 continue to hold the Stop button for a moment An E for English miles or an M for metric kilometers will appear in the Fat Calories Calories Pulse dis play Press the Speed A button to change the unit of measurement When the desired unit of mea surement is selected remove the key and then reinsert it To reset the displays press the Stop button re move the key and then reinsert the key Measure your heart rate if desired To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and place your thumb on the pulse sensor Do not press too hard or the circu lation in your thumb will be restricted and your pulse will not be detected After a few seconds the heart shaped indicator in the Fat Calories Calories Pulse display will begin to flash one or two dashes will appear and then your heart rate will be shown Hold your thumb on the pulse sensor for about 15 seconds for the most accurate reading Ifthe displayed heart rate appears to be too high or too low or if your heart rate is not displayed lift your thumb off the pulse sensor for a few seconds Then place your thumb on the pulse sensor as de scribed above Remember to stand still while mea suring your heart rate When you are finished exercising remove the key Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and

11. in the indicated position Attach the Extension Leg with an Extension Leg Screw 9 Make sure to push on the head of the Extension Leg Screw while tightening it Attach the other Extension Leg 62 in the same way 3 Identify the Right Handrail 47 which has a large hole in the left side Feed the Wire Harness 21 through the bot tom of the bracket and out of the large hole in the left side Note It may be helpful to use needlenose pliers to pull the Wire Harness out of the large hole Press a Handrail Cap 41 onto the lower end of the Right Handrail as shown Bracket 7 Insert the rectangular bracket on the Right Handrail 47 into the top of the right Upright 11 so the Handrail Cap 41 is resting against the right Upright Attach the Right Handrail and the Handrail Cap with three 1 Bolts 8 and two Washers 39 as shown Do not tighten the Bolts yet Attach the Left Handrail not shown as described above Note There is not a wire harness on the left side 4 Attach the end of the ground wire to the small hole in the side of the Right Handrail 47 with a Silver Ground Screw 104 Ground Wire 5 Place the Console Base 46 on the Right Handrail 47 and the Left Handrail not shown Attach the Console Base with four 3 4 Screws 13 only two Screws are shown Do not tighten the Screws yet Insert the Wire Harness 21 through the two indicated plas
12. latch knob to the left and hold it Raise the treadmill until the latch pin is aligned with the square hole between the frame and the foot rail Slowly release the latch knob so the latch pin is inserted into the hole Make sure that the frame is securely held by the latch pin To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sun light Do not leave the treadmill in the storage position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit 11 HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the frame is se curely held by the latch pin 1 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot on the base as shown 2 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the front wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To re duce the risk of injury use extreme caution while mov ing the treadmill Do not move the treadmill over an un even surface 3 Place one foot on the base and carefully lower the treadmill until it is resting in the storage position HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand as shown Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Pivot the treadmill down until the frame is past the latch pin Slowly release the latch knob AN Latch Knob

17. alking plat form Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see your local PROFORM dealer or call 1 800 806 3651 and order part number 146148 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a monitoring light on the surge suppressor to indi cate whether it is functionin
18. ame near the power cord see the drawing above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console If the treadmill still will not run please call our toll free Customer Service Department The displays of the console do not function properly a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Remove the screws from the hood and carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 44 and the Magnet 45 on the left side of the Pulley 50 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the 44 Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary loosen the Screw 33 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the Screw Re attach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading Reattach the Resistance Knob 13 PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 8 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roll
19. er adjustment bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord in sert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Rear Roller Adjustment Bolts Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened c If the walking belt still slows when walked on call our toll free Customer Service Department PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tight ened you should be able to lift each side of the walk ing belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the k
20. ey and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened PROBLEM ONE OF THE UPPER BODY ARMS SQUEAKS DURING USE SOLUTION a Correcting this problem requires a small amount of white marine grease available at most hardware stores Turn the Resistance Knob 115 counterclock wise until it can be removed Remove the Resistance Cone 118 and the Upper Body Arm 113 along with the 3 8 Washers 57 Spring Washer 116 Thrust Washers 76 and Thrust Bearing 117 Note If the Resistance Sleeve 119 comes out of the Resistance Bracket 120 press it back in Apply a thin layer of white marine grease to the outer surface of the Resistance Cone 118 Reattach all parts in the order shown at the right 14 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including your movement may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to

25. t the Wire Harness from slipping Then cut off the ends of the plastic ties Attach the Console 10 to the Console Base 46 with two 1 2 Silver Screws 97 and four 3 4 Screws 13 Start all six Screws before tightening them do not over tighten the Screws 7 Attach the Storage Latch 14 to the Left Upright 11 with two 3 4 Screws 13 Remove the Lock Knob 106 from the Lock Pin 110 Make sure that the Lock Pin Collar 108 and the Spring 107 are on the Lock Pin as shown Insert the Lock Pin into the Storage Latch 14 and tighten the Lock Knob onto the Lock Pin Lift the treadmill frame see HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE on page 11 but do not latch it Make sure that the frame is centered between the Handrails 1 47 not shown Firmly tighten all of the bolts and screws used in assembly steps 3 5 and 6 Then lower the frame to the floor 8 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included allen wrenches in a secure place The large allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt see page 14 To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the w

27. umber in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY
