GUIDE al DRIVE use 2 0 Fasy onive Rev 2 0C Thank you for purchasing the Memorex TravelDrive USB 2 0 This user s guide will help you get the maximum use and enjoyment from your new TravelDrive I Description The Memorex TravelDrive is a portable storage device utilizing a plug and play USB Universal Serial Bus interface that allows it to function as if it were an exter nal hard drive Based on USB 2 0 standards the TravelDrive is useable in either an available USB 1 1 or 2 0 port Your computer easily recognizes the TravelDrive once it is inserted into your USB connection You can drag and drop files to or from the TravelDrive just as you would to a floppy disk or a hard drive with the added benefit of a faster far more secure and portable data storage solution than most other previous alternatives _HI SP ll System Compatibility The Memorex TravelDrive can be used with any computer that has either a USB 2 0 or 1 1 port The TravelDrive has the following minimum system requirements e Pentium PC or Apple Macintosh Computer with USB Support e PC Windows 98SE Second Edition or later Windows Me 2000 XP e Linux 2 4 x Please see Memorex website under FAQ s for Mounting on Linux e Mac OS 8 6 or above e Available USB 2 0 for High Speed or USB 1 1 port e Internet Connection Windows 98SE only System Requirements and Specifications are subject to change without not

4. data writing or accidental erasure of critical files Sliding the switch back to the right or unlock gf position allows data to be written to or changed from the USB TravelDrive 2 LED Power and Activity Monitor When the green LED is lighted the TravelDrive is powered and recognized by your computer When the LED is flashing that means that data are being transferred to or from your drive Always wait until the LED stops flashing before removing the TravelDrive Removing the drive while the LED is flashing risks corrupting the data files and losing access to any other files on the drive 3 Lanyard Carrying Strap To attach your Lanyard to your TravelDrive remove the portion with the small thin nylon strap by depressing each side of the connector Once you have removed this connector slide the small nylon loop thru the cap keyhole and insert the connector end thru the middle of the nylon loop Reattach the connector to the main strap line of the Lanyard IX Troubleshooting 1 The green Power and Activity LED does not light This means the TravelDrive is not receiving power from the USB port Check to see if the computer recognizes the device as attached and active In Windows double click the My Computer icon to bring up a list of active drives If your TravelDrive does not appear there unplug the device and reboot your computer Insert the drive again after rebooting Windows 98 SE users may have to reinstal

12. l the drivers For all other operating systems repeat steps listed in section VII Using Your TravelDrive 2 The TravelDrive appears to be full but can t find any files on it The files may have been corrupted if data were interrupted during a transfer either by too early a removal or by a power interruption Restart your computer and attempt to access your drive Otherwise you may need to attempt using some recovery software to possibly rescue some files on your TravelDrive At this time Memorex does not have any specific software that it can endorse or support to perform this operation If this operation is not required or the files on your drive are not needed you will have to reformat your TravelDrive to regain its functionality IMPORTANT NOTE Reformatting permanently erases all the data on the TravelDrive and you will lose any unsaved files See XI Reformatting below My TravelDrive will not let me transfer files from my Mac to my PC or vice versa The Mac is able to use storage devices formatted with the FAT File Allocation Table file system This works great with Mac Operating Systems OS 8 6 through 9 21 the FAT file system is compatible with PCs Mac OS 9 22 to 10 3 or higher treats storage devices using the FAT file system differently this may cause re indexing of FAT and FAT 32 files For those systems you may have to format the TravelDrive for Mac use only with the HFS or HFS formats The dat

17. similar to flash media cards and can be used like an external drive It is also far more tolerant towards physical handling than any disk drive or most other forms of transportable data storage devices If you can still access files on it it most likely has not suffered any damage Can fill the TravelDrive to its maximum capacity Yes but it is not advisable due to the nature of the file structures of re writable technology used on your TravelDrive and other media such as flash cards and CD RWS It is strongly recommended that a small amount of safety margin be reserved to protect access to your files 7 accidentally took out the TravelDrive while the activity light was flashing Now it doesn t work Can it be repaired Your TravelDrive should still function normally however there is a strong likelihood that the file you were transferring may have become corrupted If that is the case recovery software may be able to retrieve some critical files In order to get your TravelDrive working again you may have to reformat the drive IMPORTANT NOTE Reformatting permanently erases all the data on the TravelDrive and you will lose any unsaved files See XI Reformatting below 8 I ve used my TravelDrive for a long time but it s not working as well as before Do these things wear out The mechanics of the TravelDrive do not wear out but over time adding and deleting a great many files leaves anomalies in the file

20. ve into your USB port until steps 1 through 12 below have been completed successfully 1 Turn on your computer and wait for the Windows desktop to appear 2 Close any applications you may have running 3 Download the necessary driver by launching your Internet browser and insert the following web address located on the Memorex website www memorex com service support software php e Select SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS then USB TRAVELDRIVES e Click on DOWNLOAD under TravelDrive Driver C Read the license agreement and if you agree to the terms click on AGREE AND WISH TO PROCEED WITH THE DOWNLOAD e When the download dialogue box appears click on SAVE e Choose or create a folder on your hard drive in which you want to save the downloaded driver You will need to install the driver from this folder after it has been downloaded e When the download is complete click CLOSE from the dialogue box and exit the website e Click on the zipped file it will automatically open up the software e When prompted save the unzipped version to the same folder you chose to save the downloaded file Installing Driver 2C 4 Go to the folder in which you saved the driver and double click on the Setup icon to open up the installation Figure 1 i Figure 1 5 A Welcome dialogue box will appear to guide you through the installation of the drivers Figure 2 Click on NEXT InstallShield Wizard x memorex S Welcome to the InstallS
