Isolator Ceiling Plate Le a Step 2 2 a Steps 2 3 2 5 I Ar For Angled Ceilings Be sure to orient the ceiling plate so that the arrows printed on the ceiling plate are pointing toward the ceiling peak 3 1 3 Assembling the Top Housing To assemble the housing to the hanger adapter align the three raised tabs on the hanger adapter with the three narrow notches in the top housing Make certain the housing sits flat on the adapter Install three 3 assembly screws 8 32 and tighten them securely 8 Steps 3 1 3 2 Top Housing Assembly Screw 4 Hanger Adapter 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company 4 Assembling and Hanging the Fan A WARNING Fan may fall if not assembled as directed in these installation instructions 4 1 Unbundle the wires from the fan For Standard or Angled mounting 4 2 To assemble fan to hang down from a flat or angled ceiling insert the downrod through the canopy and canopy trim ring Feed the wires from the fan through the downrod 4 3 Loosen the square head set screw on the adapter to install the pipe and ball assembly Note When the pipe and ball assembly is fully installed 2 3 threads on the pipe will still be visible this is normal Securely retighten the set screw with a wrench or pliers Skip to Step 4 7 A CAUTION The adapter has a special c

A CAUTION To avoid possible electrical shock before installing your fan disconnect the power by turning off the circuit breakers to the outlet box and associated wall switch location If you cannot lock the circuit breakers in the off position securely fasten a prominent warning device such as a tag to the service panel 2 1 2 3 2 4 2 5 Drill two pilot holes into the wood support structure through the outermost holes in the outlet box The pilot holes should be 9 64 in diameter Your fan comes with four neoprene noise isolators Isolators Position the isolators between the ceiling plate and ceiling by inserting the raised areas on each isolator into the holes in the ceiling plate Thread the lead wires from the outlet box down through the hole in the middle of the ceiling plate Align the slotted holes in the ceiling plate with the pilot holes you drilled in the wood support structure For proper alignment use slotted holes directly across from each other Note The isolators should be flush against the ceiling Place a flat washer on each of the two 3 wood screws and pass the screws through the slotted holes in the ceiling plate into the pilot holes you drilled Tighten the screws into the 9 64 pilot holes do not use lubricants on the screws Do not over tighten Flat Washer 3 Wood Screw e FFCV NN UUTEDEUU NUD be 7 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company

4. the canopy The canopy trim ring will snap and lock into place Should you need to remove the canopy trim ring follow these steps 1 Locate the tab indicators small bumps on top of tabs 2 Press firmly on opposite sides of the ring toward the canopy The tabs will flex out releasing the trim ring from the canopy Canopy lI Step 6 2 Ceiling Plate gt gt Canopy Trim J Ring Canopy Steps 6 4 6 5 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company 7 Assembling the Blades 7 1 Attach each blade to the fan using three blade assembly screws 12 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company 8 Installing the Switch Housing 8 1 Assemble the bottom cover by aligning the small rectangular hole in the cover with the fan reversing switch and the round hole in the cover with the pull chain switch Holding the cover at an angle you must first place the rectangular hole in the reversing switch and swing the cover up so the round hole is below the pull chain switch Insert the chain into the round hole and swing the cover up into its final position Complete the cover assembly by attaching it to the switch housing with 3 screws NOTE Check the position of the reversing switch knob If it s in the center of the hole slide it to the right for down draft to the left for up draft If the switch knob is left in the center of the h

9. late 3 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company Ceiling Height Preparing the Fan Site continued Step 2 Cut the Ceiling Hole 2 1 Locate the site for the ceiling hole directly below the joist or support brace that will hold the outlet box and fan 2 2 Cut a 4 diameter hole through the drywall or plaster of the ceiling You will use the hole to install the support brace and outlet box Step 3 Install a Support Brace If Necessary Determine if there is a ceiling joist directly above the ceiling hole If the joist is there determine if it is positioned to allow you to recess the outlet box a minimum of 1 16 into the ceiling If NOT install a support brace as follows 3 1 Attach a 2 x 4 support brace between two joists Position it to allow you to recess the bottom of the outlet box a minimum of 1 16 into the ceiling 3 2 Check the support brace to ensure it will support the full weight of the fan and light kit Step 4 Install the Outlet Box 4 1 Obtain a UL approved octagonal 4 x 1 1 2 outlet box plus two 8 x 1 1 2 wood screws and washers available from any hardware store or electrical supply house 4 2 Orient the outlet box so that both the inner and outer holes in the box align with the joist or support brace 4 3 Drill pilot holes no larger than the minor diameter of the wood screws 5 64 through the inner holes of the outlet box 4 4 Attach the outlet box
10. oating on the threads Do not remove this coating the coating prevents the downrod from unscrewing Once assembled do not remove the downrod For Low Profile mounting Note For low profile mounting the downrod is replaced with the low profile washer 4 4 Remove the set screw from the adapter 4 5 Place the low profile washer lip up into the canopy Be sure the green ground wire is pointing up toward the ceiling 4 6 Align the holes in the washer with the holes in the adapter Assemble securely with three low profile screws 4 7 Raise the fan and place the hook on the ceiling plate through the U shaped hole in the rim Step 4 7 U shaped Hole 9 Steps 4 2 4 3 Canopy Trim Ring Low Profile Screw 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company 5 Wiring the Fan All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes and ANSI NFPA 70 1999 If you are unfamiliar with wiring use a qualified electrician Wall switches are not included Select an acceptable general use switch in accordance with national and local electrical codes 5 1 5 2 5 5 5 6 Before attempting installation make sure the power is still off To connect the wires hold the bare metal leads together and place a wire connector over them then twist clockwise until tight For all these connections use the wire connectors provided Connec
11. ole the fan will not operate when turned on 8 2 Assemble the switch housing cover as shown in step Reversing Switch Pull Chain Bottom A al Cover J Step 8 1 Screw 7 2 using 2 screws Make sure you use the two square clearance holes in the bottom of the cover These holes will line up with the 2 threaded holes closest to the large round hole in the bottom center of the switch housing NOTE Make sure you do not trap any electrical wires between the two parts All wiring must be tucked up inside the switch housing 8 3 Complete the fan assembly by attaching the small round cover to the bottom of the switch housing cover First insert the plastic plug into the hole in the small cover Switch ae Housing Switch k Housing Screw lt gt Cap Steps 8 2 8 3 and insert the end of the plug into the center hole in the switch housing cover Push plug and small cover in place It will be a snug fit against the large cover 13 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company a J 9 1 9 Operating and Cleaning Your Ceiling Fan Turn on electrical power to the fan 9 2 The fan pull chain controls power to the fan The pull chain has four settings in sequence High Medium Low and Off Fa 9 4 9 5 e Pull the chain slowly to change settings e Release slowly to prevent the chain from recoiling into the blades e The chain uses a breakaway connector

13. osts within 30 inches of the fan blade tips e The fan is directly below a joist or support brace that will hold the outlet box and the full weight of the fan Checklist for Existing Fan Site 30 From Wall or Nearest Obstruction 7 Minimum Blades to Floor 8 Minimum If you want to use an existing fan site complete the following checklist to Fan Support determine if the site is acceptable and safe for your new Hunter fan If you cannot check off every item prepare a new fan site as described on this page Fan Support System e Fan attaches directly to building structure e Fan support system will hold full weight of the fan and light kit Ceiling Hole The outlet box clearance hole is directly below the joist or support brace Outlet Box e The outlet box is an UL approved octagonal 4 x 1 1 2 outlet box or as specifi ed by the support brace manufacturer e The outlet box is secured to the joist or support brace by wood screws and washers through the inner holes of outlet box e The outer holes of the outlet box are aligned with joist or support brace e The bottom of the outlet box is recessed a minimum of 1 16 into ceiling Wiring e The electrical cable is secured to outlet box by an approved connector e Six inches of lead wires extend from outlet box Fan Support System Outlet Box If your existing fan site is suitable skip ahead to Section 2 Installing the Ceiling P
14. t the bare or green ground wire grounded from the ceiling to the green ground wire grounded from the ceiling plate and the green ground wire from the fan Connect the white wire ungrounded from the ceiling to the white wire ungrounded from the fan Connect the remaining wires as follows Single Switch Wiring e The black wire ungrounded from the ceiling to the black ungrounded and the black white wire ungrounded from the fan A CAUTION Be sure no bare wire or wire strands are visible after making connections Turn the splices upward and push them carefully back through the ceiling plate into the outlet box Spread the wires apart with the grounded wires on one side of the outlet box and the ungrounded wires on the other side of the outlet box 10 42774 01 06 12 09 Hunter Fan Company Wire Connector Single Switch Wiring 6 1 6 2 6 3 6 4 6 5 6 Installing the Canopy and Canopy Trim Ring Holding the canopy raise the fan off the hook Align the slots in the canopy with the tabs on the ceiling plate Raise the canopy over the ceiling plate Rotate the canopy clockwise until the tabs on the ceiling plate totally engage with the slots in the canopy Partially install the three canopy screws into the canopy one at a time Once all three screws are in tighten them Using both hands push the canopy trim ring up to the top of
