9. remain on the TV screen until it is removed by the next press of the Recall button OSD Menu Screen You only need to press one of the Numeric keys on the remote control Each Numeric key is indicated next to the feature displayed on the OSD Menu When you select a feature turn to the section in this manual and read the full description accompanying the instructions there Closed Caption System 13 Closed Caption System This feature not only makes it possible for the hearing impaired to enjoy selected programs but can also be used to receive valuable information from your TV stations Picture of Remote Buttons To Set the Closed Caption Mode 1 Press the Prog button The menu see page 8 will appear as an On Screen Display 2 Press the 4 key on the remote control The Set Caption Mode screen will appear 3 Press the 1 2 or 3 key to change the display to the desired mode see right 4 Press the 4 key to select CH1 or CH2 The closed caption signal may be broadcast over one or both of these channels Recording and Playing Back a Closed Caption Text Program Your TV VCR Combination will automatically record the Closed Caption Text signal of applicable programs To see the Closed Caption narration or text during playback simply follow the steps above When selecting prerecorded tapes for rental or purchase look for the CC closed caption mark Closed Caption System 14 Selecting the Proper Mode CLOSED CAPT

Timer Recording 31 being recorded press the Prog button To Clear Programs After programming is complete 1 Follow steps 1 to 3 on page 19 In step 3 enter the program number you want to clear 2 Press the Clear button The screen below will appear 3 To enter a replacement program follow the program guide starting from step 4 on page 19 To Stop a Timer Recording in Progress Press the Timer button off This erases the program in progress from the timer s memory and cancels today s recording only of a daily or weekly series Future daily and weekly recordings will be performed as programmed Re Recording Tape Duplication 32 Re Recording Tape Duplication Dubbing from any VHS recorder or camcorder to another is simple and can be done using the connections and steps shown below 1 Insert a pre recorded tape into the source VCR 2 Insert a blank tape into the editing TV VCR Combination 3 Press the Input button on the remote control controlling the editing TV VCR Combination until INPUT SELECT LINE appears on the TV screen 4 Press the Play button on the source VCR 5 Press the Rec and Play buttons together on the editing TV VCR Combination Be sure that the buttons in steps 4 and 5 are pressed simultaneously to avoid missing any of the recording Caution Unauthorized exchanging and or copying of copyrighted recordings may be copyright infringement Connection Tape Operation 33 Tape Operation R
11. a channel to be recorded using the Channel Up Down or Numeric keys on the remote control OR To record an external source press the Input button to select LINE Input LINE appears instead of the channel number if this position is selected 2 Press the Standby button on the remote control The screen below will appear 3 Continue to press the Standby button until the desired start time appears on the TV screen Each press of the button will add 30 minutes to the displayed time The time can be set up to 11 30 PM of the next day 4 Press the OTR button until the desired recording length is displayed To cancel a Standby OTR after one has been set or is in progress Press the OTR button to select the Standby OTR display then press the Clear button The screen below will appear and the Standby OTR will be cancelled A standby OTR can be initiated at the TV VCR Combination by holding down the Rec button and pressing the Channel Down key Continue to press the Channel Down key until the desired start time is obtained The recording length is set by holding down the Rec button and pressing the Channel Up key until the desired length is displayed Timer Recording 28 Timer Recording The timer feature lets you set the TV VCR Combination from the remote control to do unattended recording For each program you set the TV VCR Combination will turn itself on at the scheduled time and do the recording automatically Instructions for each step
12. appear on the TV screen after you select the program mode Picture of Remote Buttons Preparations The steps in Getting Started on page 3 have been completed The clock is set to the correct time The record tab is in its place on the cassette The tape is long enough to record the programs Enter program selections within 60 seconds of each other or the TV VCR Combination will automatically leave this mode You can program the timer to record a program on any day you choose up to one month away One Time Recording record everyday at the same time and length Monday through Friday Daily Recording record once a week at the same time length and day of each week Weekly Recording Operation 1 Press the Prog button on the remote control This displays the menu see page 8 The screen shown in step 2 will appear 2 Press the 2 key on the remote control This selects the Program Set mode 3 Press the 1 2 3 or 4 key to select one of the 4 programs 4 To set the Rec On day enter two digits for the day of the month For example if today is Jan 8th to make a recording on Feb 3rd press 03 Timer Recording 29 For daily and weekly recordings refer to page 20 To make corrections in on screen entries press the Clear button or the Channel Down key to move the flashing indication one space to the left Move this flashing indication over the numbers you want to change Then enter the correct number 5 To set the Re
13. clock for the first time entries that do not match the calendar will cause a to appear 3 To set the month date and year enter two digits for the month two digits for the date and two digits for the year For example for Feb 9 1993 press Numeric keys 02 09 93 4 To set the hour minute s AM or PM enter two digits for the hour two digits for the minute s and 1 for AM or 2 for PM For example for 10 30 PM press Numeric keys 10 30 2 5 Press the Prog button This starts the clock and the TV screen will return to the menu screen 6 Press the Prog button again The TV channel selected at the TV VCR Combination will return to the screen To Make Corrections Press the Clear button or the Channel Down key repeatedly to move back to an item you want to change Then enter the correct number Clock Adjustment 16 To Display the Date and Time Press the Recall button four times to show the date and time overlay on the TV screen See VCR Status Display on page 8 for details To Reset the Clock If you want to reset the clock at some later time press the Prog button while you are watching TV The menu screen see page 8 will appear press the 1 key and follow the clock set instructions to enter a completely new date and time Or you may skip over some entries to reset a particular item by using the Channel Up key Channel Memory 17 Channel Memory The Channel Up Down keys may be set to stop only on th
14. is in the still or slow mode for 3 minutes it will stop automatically to protect the tape and video head In search still or slow motion playback some amount of noise may appear for tapes recorded in SLP mode The picture may be completely snowy in search still or slow motion mode for tapes recorded in SP and LP speed To Record While it is possible to change the tape speed when you are recording there will be some distortion on the tape where the change occurred After the TV VCR Combination has been in pause for 5 minutes it will stop automatically to protect the tape and video head One Touch Recording During a one touch recording press the OTR button once to see display showing the remaining recording time The cassette will eject automatically if its record tab is missing when you press the OTR button or Standby button If the preset time for a timer recording comes up during a one touch recording the one touch recording will take priority Timer Recording Timer recording may not be performed or continue if a power interruption of more than about 1 minute occurs before or during timer recording even if power resumes thereafter If the start times of 2 preset programs overlap the preset time of the lower numbered program will have priority Before Requesting Service 38 Before Requesting Service Check the following points once again if you are having some trouble with your TV VCR Combination POWER CORRECTION NO POWER

ION ON When this mode is selected a narration of selected TV programs will be displayed on the screen Check your TV program listings for CC closed caption broadcasts CLOSED CAPTION OFF In this mode narration will not appear on the screen even if a closed caption broadcast is received TEXT In this mode the lower half of the screen will be blocked out Then when the TV station broadcasts text such as program listings special information etc it will appear in this space This text block will remain on the screen until your remove it by changing the display in step 3 To change the Caption mode when a timer recording is set but not in progress you must first press the Timer button off Be sure to press the Timer button back on before a scheduled timer recording Note This television receiver provides display of television closed captioning in accordance with 15 119 of the FCC rules This television receiver does not support color attributes of television closed captioning Clock Adjustment 15 Clock Adjustment Accurate clock time is a must for all types of timer recording Your TV VCR Combination will accurately maintain its calendar up to Dec 31 2012 11 59 PM once you have set the present day and time Picture of Remote Buttons To Set the Clock 1 If the clock set guide is not displayed press the Prog button The menu screen will appear 2 Press the 1 key The clock set guide will appear When setting the

18. and continue playback Special Playback Features 22 To Advance a Still Picture 1 In still mode press the Frame Advance button on the remote control Frame advance will only operate during still The picture will slowly advance frame by frame while this button is held down To View a Slow Motion Picture 1 During playback press the Slow button on the remote control You can vary the tape speed of the slow motion by pressing the Slow Up Down buttons on the remote control 2 Press the Play button to release the slow mode Auto Operation Functions Auto Playback When a tape is inserted the power comes on Auto If the record tab is removed playback begins Auto Auto Rewind After a tape reaches the end during playback fast forward or manual record the TV VCR Combination will rewind it and go into Stop mode Rec Auto Stop After a tape reaches its end during recording the TV VCR Combination will rewind and eject it and go into Stop mode Playback Auto Eject After a tape without a record tab is played to its end the TV VCR Combination will rewind and then eject the tape Eject Cassette A cassette may be ejected with power on or off For record tab information refer to page 24 Digital Auto Tracking With Digital Auto Tracking there is usually no need for manual adjustments to minimize noise in playback for most tapes Digital Auto Tracking continuously analyzes the signal to adjust for optimum picture quality fo

22. ec End Search This feature allows you to quickly find the point at which your recording ends and a blank portion of tape begins for continuous recording In play FF or stop mode press the Rec End Search button on the remote control The TV VCR Combination will go into FF mode and then stop automatically around the end of your recording If the Rec End Search button is pressed where no signal is recorded the TV VCR Combination will go into rewind mode and then stop automatically around the end of your recording Before starting recording play back the tape to determine where to start a new recording REC END SEARCH will appear on the TV while the search is in progress Time Search The time search feature lets you enter a length of time to skip back or ahead When the selected search length is completed the TV VCR Combination will automatically go into playback mode 1 Press the Time Search button on the remote control in the stop or play mode This selects the time search display 2 Enter one digit for the hour two digits for the minute This enters the length you want to skip back or ahead For example for 1 hour 25 minutes press 125 For 5 minutes press 005 3 Press the FF or REW button to skip back or ahead The TV VCR Combination will skip over the desired length of time and go into playback automatically Make each key entry for your length selections within 10 seconds or the Tape Operation 34 TV VCR Combination
