DVD R discs are always formatted in Video mode the same format as pre recorded DVD Video discs This means that once a DVD R disc is finalized you can play it in most standard DVD players DVD RW discs can be formatted in either Video mode or VR mode Video Recording mode Keep in mind that changing between these modes requires you to re initialize the disc which will erase its contents g VR3930 Overview Continued Notes for Recording The recording times shown are not exact because the DVD Recorder VCR uses variable bit rate video com pression This means that the exact recording time will depend on the material being recorded e When recording a TV broadcast if the reception is poor or the picture contains interference the record ing times may be shorter If you record still pictures or audio only the recording time may be longer The displayed times for recording and time remaining may not always add up to exactly the length of the disc The recording time available may decrease if you heavily edit a disc If using a DVD RW disc make sure you change the recording format Video mode or VR mode before you record anything on the disc See page 24 DISC Initialize for how to do this When using a DVD R disc you can keep recording until the disc is full or until you finalize the disc Before you start a recording session check the amount of recording time left on the d

17. on Updating device information The camcorder is updating information for DV Camera Mode The camcorder is set to camera mode Troubleshooting If you cannot get a picture and or audio through the DV IN jack check the following e Make sure the DV cable is properly connected e Try switching off the connected equipment then Switching it back on e Try switching the audio input ote Depending on the connected camcorder you may not be able to control it using the remote control supplied with the DVD Recorder VCR g VR Mode Original and Playlist Editing In this section you will learn about editing DVD RW discs in VR Mode It is important to understand the difference between edits to the Original content of the disc and edits to the Playlist Edits you make to the Original content of a disc change the actual content of the disc For example if you erase a title or chapter from the Original content that title or chapter is erased from the disc freeing up extra recording time When you edit the Playlist however you are not chang ing the content of the disc For example when you erase a title from the Playlist Program you are just telling the DVD Recorder VCR not to play that title nothing is actually erased from the disc Titles and Chapters Titles in the disc s Original content contain one or more chapters When you insert an Original title into the Playlist Program all the chapters within that
