New Connection Wizard Intemet Connection How do you want to connect to the Intemet Connect using a dial up modem This type of connection uses a modem and a regular or ISDN phone line Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and Password This is a high speed connection using either a DSL or cable modem Your ISP may refer to this type of connection as PPPoE Qi This is a high speed connection using either a cable modem DSL or LAN connection It is always active and doesnt require you to sign in 8 Click the type of Internet connection you are setting up then click Next 9 Click Finish 10 Repeat this procedure for each computer on your network Go to Accessing the Internet on page 103 102 www gateway com Accessing the Internet To access the Internet from your computer 1 Make sure that the router or access point is turned on 2 Open Internet Explorer and browse the Internet Sharing drives and printers With a network you can share drives for example hard drives diskette drives and CD or DVD drives and printers among the computers connected to the network After the drives and printers on each network computer are shared you can access them as though they were attached directly to your computer Then you can m View a network drive m Open and copy files stored on other network computers m Print documents on network printers Important To share a print
6. 5 For an Internet connection plug a straight through cable into the WAN port on the router and the other end into the Ethernet jack on the DSL or cable modem Configuring your router After you have named your computers and set up TCP IP on them you can configure your router using your Web browser For these instructions we assume that you are using the router to connect your network to a high speed Broadband Internet connection through an Internet service provider ISP and that you are configuring it as a DHCP server Important The following configuration information applies to the Linksys EtherFast Cable DSL routers For any other brand or model of router A see the manufacturer s documentation which may accompany the router or be available from the manufacturer s Web site gt To configure the Linksys EtherFast Cable DSL router 98 1 From one of the computers connected to the network open your Web browser type http 192 168 1 1 in the browser s address box then press ENTER 2 When prompted for a username and password leave the username box empty and type admin in the password box then click OK The Setup page opens 3 Enter the following values in the appropriate fields m Router Name and Domain Name Check with your ISP to see if entries are required in these fields and if so what entries are required Normally leaving the fields blank will work LAN IP Address We recommend that you accept the defau
