7. color coded speakers cables The speaker terminals on the back of the tower speakers are Spring Type Depress the red lever on the back of each tower speaker and insert the bare end of the red wire into the terminal Release the red lever to lock the wire in place Follow the same procedure to connect the black wire to the black terminal of each tower speaker Black Wire Red Wire F BACK PANEL Connect the other end of the color coded speaker cables to the speaker terminals on the back panel of the Receiver CD Player unit The terminals on the back of the Receiver CD Player unit are Lever Type Set the 4 plastic levers to their Down Open position Insert the bare wires from the left tower speaker into the color coded terminals and then set the levers back to the Up Closed position to lock the wires in place Repeat this procedure to connect the wires from the right tower speaker to the right terminals Red Wire R R L L E e D ES Note Be sure to make the connections correctly If the speakers are connected incorrectly the sound may be muddy or distorted Red RS1008 ib042303 p65 5 2 5 2003 9 40 l W RS1008 ib042303 p65 6 SUBWOOFER Locate the Subwoofer Connection Cable This is a black cable with black colored plugs on each end Connect one end of the Subwoofer cable to the AUDIO IN
8. correct time appears on the display when the unit is in the Power Off Standby mode e Time setting can be done also when the unit is in Power Off Standby mode 16 RS1008 ib042303 p65 16 23 4 2003 14 51 W RS1008 ib042303 p65 17 LISTENING TO RADIO Reminder Unless otherwise specified you may use the controls on the touch panel display or on the remote control to perform all of the following operations 1 m w cv om Press the POWER button to turn the Receiver CD Player unit On The touch panel display lighting turns on Also press the Subwoofer POWER button on the Subwoofer only to turn the Subwoofer On if necessary Press the TUNER BAND button to select the Tuner function if necessary An AM or FM radio frequency will appear on the display If necessary press the TUNER BAND button again to switch between AM and FM bands Press the gt l or I lt buttons to tune to the frequency of your desired station as follows Manual Tuning Repeatedly press the or i buttons until the display shows the frequency of the desired station Use this method when tuning in weak or distant stations If the you tune to an FM Stereo station the ST indicator will appear in the display Automatic Tuning Depress the gt or I lt buttons until the display begins to move then release the buttons The tuner will search up or down for the next strong station and stop on that sta
9. on to the same function TUNER CD or AUX that was selected before the power was shut off Therefore make sure that you have selected the radio station or CD that you want to hear when the system turns on and you have adjusted the VOLUME EQ and X BASS controls as desired 24 RS1008 ib042303 p65 24 23 4 2003 14 51 l W RS1008 ib042303 p65 25 SNOOZE Function Remote Control Only When the system turns On automatically you may press the SNOOZE button on the remote control to stop the radio or CD temporarily After 9 minutes the system will turn On again The Snooze operation can be repeated multiple times Note If after the system turns On automatically you press any other button before pressing the SNOOZE button the snooze function will be automatically disabled SLEEP Timer Remote Control Only The Sleep timer can be used to shut the system off automatically after up to 2 hours 120 minutes of operation 1 Turn the system on and operate the TUNER or CD player as usual 2 Press the SLEEP button on the remote control The SLEEP indicator appears in the display and the display shows 120 indicating that the system will shut off after 120 minutes Co To reduce the sleep timer operation continue pressing the sleep button to step down from 120 to 90 gt 60 gt 50 gt 40 gt 30 gt 20 10 minutes of operation After several seconds the displa
10. polarized AC outlets with one wide slot and one narrow slot These plugs can only be AL inserted in polarized outlets and they will only fit one way This is a safety feature designed to protect you from electric shock AC Outlet If you find that the plugs do not fit in your outlets you may have outdated non polarized outlets Do not try to defeat the safety feature by filing the wider blade to make it fit or by using an adapter N AC Plug If the plugs of this system will not fit in your AC outlets you should contact a qualified licensed electrician to replace your outdated outlets with polarized AC outlets 23 4 2003 14 51 l W SYSTEM CONTROLS There are two ways to operate this system You may use the remote control or you may use the touch sensor control panel that is located above the CD door All of the main system controls are found in both locations however the remote handset has some additional controls that are not on the touch sensor control panel As you read this manual unless otherwise specified the operations described can be performed either with the remote control or with the touch panel If an operation can only be performed with the remote control the instructions for that operation will clearly indicate REMOTE CONTROL ONLY USING THE REMOTE CONTROL UNIT To use the remote control the IR transmitter on the top edge of the remote handset should be pointed in the direction
11. the PLAY PAUSE button to begin playback on track 1 The display will show the track number and the elapsed playing time Adjust the VOLUME EQ X BASS and Subwoofer controls as desired Playback will continue to the end of the disc After the last track has played the disc stops and the display again shows the total tracks and playing time information To stop playback before the disc ends press the STOP I button at any time EI M a When you are finished listening press the CD DOOR button to open the door remove your disc close the door and shut the power Off 20 23 4 2003 14 51 l W Pause Control III To pause momentarily during playback press the PLAY PAUSE button again The sound stops and the Pause indicator fl flashes but the disc continues to spin To cancel pause and resume normal playback press the PLAY PAUSE PII button once more The Pause indicator II disappears SKIP SEARCH Controls 1 1 To start playback from a specific track wait until the total tracks and playing time appear on the display Press the SKIP SEARCH 1 I controls until the desired track number appears on the display then press the PLAY PAUSE PII button to begin playback on the desired track To skip to higher or lower numbered tracks during playback the SKIP SEARCH 1 1 controls until the desired track number appears on the display Playback will beg
12. unit Hold the Receiver CD player unit facing you with two hands Position the Receiver CD Player against the stand so that the two mounting screws on the stand fit into the two keyholes on the back of the Receiver CD Player KEY HOLES HANGING SCREWS BACK VIEW Hint It s easier to do this if you are looking down from the top as you position the Receiver CD Player against the center stand When the two mounting screws are inside the two keyholes slide the Receiver CD Player unit slightly downward to lock the unit in place If it should become necessary to remove the Receiver CD Player unit from the center stand slide the unit upward slightly to unlock it and then pull the unit gently toward you After you have mounted the Receiver CD Player unit on the Center Stand unwind the FM Antenna Wire that is attached to the back panel of the Receiver CD Player unit and let the wire hang freely against the back of the Center Stand IMPORTANT Save the carton and all packing materials until the system has been completely set up and is operating properly The retail store cannot accept the return of this system without the original carton and all packing materials RS1008 ib042303 p65 4 23 4 2003 14 51 l W CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS Note The Receiver CD Player unit must be mounted on the Center Stand before you connect the speakers to the back panel TOWER SPEAKERS Locate the
13. 7 23 4 2003 14 51 RS1008 ib042303 p65 28 CARE AND MAINTENANCE COMPACT DISC CARE To remove a disc from its storage case press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out holding it carefully by the edges C 7 gt Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc s recorded surface with a soft cloth Unlike conventional records compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles Wipe in a straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc Small dust particles and light stains will have absolutely no effect on reproduction quality Clean the disc periodically with a soft lint free dry cloth Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc If necessary use a CD cleaning kit Never write on or affix labels to the surface of compact discs Or CARE OF THE CABINET If the cabinet becomes dusty wipe it with a soft dry dust cloth Do not use any wax polish sprays or abrasive cleaners on the cabinet CAUTION Never allow any water or other liquids to get inside the unit while cleaning 28 23 4 2003 14 51 l LIMITED WARRANTY Emerson Radio Corp warrants manufacturing defects in original material including original parts and workmanship under normal use and conditions for a period of ninety 90 days fro
14. ence by one or more of the following measures Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected Consult the dealer or an experienced radio TV technician for help This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules Operation is subject to the following two conditions 1 This device may not cause harmful interference and 2 This device must accept any interference received including interference that may cause undesired operation 23 4 2003 14 51 s PREPARATION FOR USE UNPACKING AND SET UP Carefully remove all of the components and confirm that you have the following 1 Center Stand with Subwoofer x 1 2 Tower Speakers x 2 3 Receiver CD Player Unit x 1 with FM Antenna Wire attached 4 Remote Control x 1 5 Speaker Cables x 2 6 Subwoofer Connection Cable x 1 Position the Center Stand with Subwoofer unit in the desired location Note that this system requires two AC outlets If you do not have two outlets available in the desired location you may have to use a UL Listed multi outlet surge protector or power strip not included Note that there are two exposed screws on the front side of the Center Stand These screws are aligned with two matching keyholes on the back of the Receiver CD Player
15. er can play normal CDs plus CD Recordable CD R and CD Rewriteable CD RW discs However the playability of CD R and CD RW discs may be affected by the type of software that was used in ripping the tracks from the original discs and burning the tracks onto the blank media Playability may also be affected by the quality and condition of the blank media you use for recording 10096 compatibility cannot be guaranteed This is not an indication of any problems with your player Normal Playback 1 A o IL Press the POWER button to turn the system On and press the CD button to select the CD function The disc icon appears in the CD button If there is no disc in the player the display will show NO DISC Press the CD DOOR button The CD door slides upward and the display shows OPEN Place your disc on the CD spindle with the printed label side facing outward Gently press on the disc around the center hole to make sure it is properly seated on the spindle Press the CD DOOR button The display shows CLOSE and the door slides downward The disc will spin and the display will show TOC READ as the player reads the Table Of Contents on the disc After a few seconds the display will show the total tracks and total playing time on the disc Note If the disc is badly scratched inserted upside down or otherwise unreadable the display will show NO DISC Press
