Using the ZOOM Feature Q1 You are allowed to zoom in on a frame image and switch positions of the frame 1 Press ZOOM during playback The central part of the image will be zoomed in Each press of ZOOM will change the ZOOM Q1 x 1 3 Q2 x 1 5 and Q3 x 2 0 2 Press the up down or left right arrows to view a different part of the frame You can move the frame from the center position to up down left or right direction Q1 Q2 or Q3 appears when the ZOOM button is pressed 3 Press ZOOM repeatedly to return to a 1 1 view Q Off Note You can select pause slow or search playback in the zoom mode However you can only zoom in during the slow forward but not during the slow reverse or search playback 24 Chapter 2 Playing DVDs Audio CDs Basic Playback Features Using the Remote or Front Panel You can use some buttons on the remote control or front panel to activate some disc playback features Playback features aren t usually available during the opening credits of a movie Fast Motion Playback To scan quickly through the disc when you re playing it use REVERSE and FORWARD buttons 1 Press the REVERSE or FORWARD button on the remote when you re playing a disc 2 Press the button again to scan at a faster speed Each time you press the button the scanning speed increases or decreases x2 x4 x8 x20 3 Press the PLAY button at any time to resume normal playback Note You won t hear the sound audio on

11. screen when you tune to a program that is broadcast in stereo SEL STEREO SEL SAP Second Audio Program Plays the program s audio in a second language if one is available The word SAP appears on the screen when you tune to a program that is broadcast with SAP information SAP is also used to broadcast a program s audio with descriptions of the video for the visually impaired SEL MONO SAP_ Plays the program s audio in a second language if one is available in mono this option is seldom available Using Closed Captioning Many programs are encoded with closed captioning information which lets you display the audio portion of a program as text on the screen Closed captioning is not available on all channels at all times Only specific programs encoded with closed captioning information are applicable When a program is closed captioned CAPTION CH1 is displayed when you bring up the displays with the SUBTITLE button The TV DVD offers four closed captioned modes including two text modes To select the closed caption modes press the SUBTITLE on the remote to switch among CAPTION CH1 CAPTION CH2 TEXT CH1 TEXT CH2 The selected mode remains in effect even if the channel is changed Notes Generally the caption modes are transmitted in languages CAPTION CH1 is displayed in English and CAPTION CH2 displays the other languages e text modes cover nearly half of the picture on the screen to display the closed CAPTION CH
12. setup and connection e The disc might be damaged Try another disc Picture is distorted during forward and reverse scan e It is normal for some distortion to appear while scanning No picture e Not in the DVD mode e No disc is inserted No on screen display e Display is turned off in the menu Change setting in the Picture menu No subtitle e Some discs have no subtitles e Subtitles are cleared Press SUBTITLE button on the remote control 52 Chapter 5 Other Information Troubleshooting Subtitle and or audio language is not changed when you play back a DVD e Ifthe subtitle and or audio language does not exist on the disc the initial settings will not be seen heard The disc s priority language is selected instead Set the subtitle and or audio language manually through the DVD s main menu e Since this unit plays a DVD according to the disc contents designed by the software producers subtitle and or audio language may not be changed The menu is displayed in a foreign language The Language menu preference is set to that language From the DVD s main menu select the Language menu Highlight the language you prefer and press ENTER No forward reverse scan slow motion play repeat play program play pause during playback etc Some discs have sections that prohibit these functions e If you re trying to skip through the warning information and credits at the beginning of a movie you won t be able to This
13. system is accessed only when a DVD is in the stop mode Press SETUP e MENU to bring up the DVD s menu Remember that a feature will only work if the disc was programmed with that feature For example if you choose subtitles the subtitles only appear if the disc was created with subtitles Loading and Playing Discs Your TV DVD unit plays DVD discs or Audio discs Before you load a disc make sure that it is compatible with the player The following discs CANNOT be used with this player e Laserdiscs e CD I CD ROM computer only discs CD RW DVD ROM DVD RAM DVD Audio CD R CDV CD G Video CD or Photo CD do not play to prevent accidental erasure of prerecorded material e Discs recorded using other broadcast standards i e PAL or SECAM To Load and Play a Disc Pressing the OPEN CLOSE button on the remote turns on the TV DVD puts the unit in the DVD mode and opens the tray To play a disc 1 Place a disc gently into the tray with the disc s label facing up double sided discs have content on both sides so you can place either side up 2 Press OPEN CLOSE to close the tray 2 changes to Reading and playback begins This is an example of a one sided disc 18 Chapter 2 Playing DVDs Audio CDs The TV DVD reads the disc s table of contents and then one of three things happens depending on how the disc was programmed The disc starts playing e The disc menu appears on the screen One of the options wil
