5. switches located inside the thenmostat on the printed circuit board These switches are preset by the factory to typical home heating and cooling system requirements The installing contractor also reviewed the settings during installation to be sure the thermostat will operate properly with your heating and cooling system 21 de 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 24 The DIP switches can however be changed to customize the thenmostat s operation to your particular needs This should only be done after consulting with your contractor The Model 8554 DIP switches control the following functions No 1 4nin 2nin MininumEquuprrert On Off Tines This switch is factory preset at 2 minutes This switch provides short cycle protection for the heat pump If you feel that the heat pump tums on and off too many times per hour ask your contractor about changing the switch to a 4 ninute ninimumon tire Keep in mind however that this may increase the overall temperature variation in the house due to longer run and off times DO NOT change the position of this switch without first consulting with your contractor No 2 Keypad Lock If tampering with the thenrostat is expected and unwanted the keypad can be locked by moving this switch fromthe factory set OFF position to the ON position This should not be done until all programming is finalized In the locked position only the following functions can be done The outdoor ten perature button will
6. the noming programfor 5 00 AM The thermostat will automatically start warning your house in advance so your confort temperature is reached on time The progressive recovery feature must be activated in order to work 5 de 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM To activate the progressive recovery mode simultaneously press the PROGRAM and FAN buttons A small then rostat icon Lik will appear under the clock Once in this mode proceed with programming your thenmostat remembering to use exact times for each event time change NOTE If not using Progressive Recovery it will take some time for your heating or cooling systemto reach the desired temperature when retuming froma setback Therefore it is suggested you set your programtime before the actual time you want your horre to reach the desired temperature For example if you get up at 7 00AM and have a 6 degree setback set your Maoming event at 6 00 AM to be sure the desired temperature is reached by 7 00AM 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 9 NOTE While progranming you must press a button at least every 2 minutes or the thenmostat will revert back to the operational mode If this happens simply repeatedly press or press and hold the PROGRAM button until you get back to where you left off The information you have already entered has been retained NOTE If consecutive events have the sane temperature you can skip an event by simultaneously pressing the PROGRAM and MODE buttons

8. display the outdoor ten perature e The Decease button or nosas GY button will tenporarily change the set point a maximumof 6 F 43 C for a period of 3 hours before the thenrostat automatically retums to the original program 22 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 25 If the thermostat does not respond when a button is pushed it may be because the keypad has been locked A Lock icon a will appear when pushing any buttons other than the buttons outlined above No 3 Nomai Heat Pumpy Acichon Heat Pump This switch is factory preset to the OFF position to operate in the normal heat pump mode If your heating and cooling systemis an Add on heat pun configuration your contractor changed the position of this switch to match your equipment Do not change the position of this switch as it could result in extraordinarily high operating costs No 4 This switch is not used and must remain in the OFF position No 5 Free LED 1 with LOD Filter Symbol When moved to the ON position this switch tums on a replace Filter icon on the LCD display screen when a 24 volt signal is sent to the LED lteminal If your heat pump has the required controls for automatically detemining when to change the air filter this feature is beneficial Consult your contractor for further information No 6 Free LED 2 with LOD Wrench Symbol When moved to the ON position this switch tums on a Wrench icon on the LCD display screen when a 24 volt signal

10. erride temperature has been entered Note that a Snowflake icon is onthe display which flashes when the cooling systemis running Selecting Heating Mode Press the MODE button until the word HEAT appears on the display In this mode the heating systemwill maintain temperature according to the programming previously completed unless an override temperature has been entered Note that a Hame icon is onthe 18 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 21 display which flickers when the heat pump is running Your thenmostat will automatically tum on and off any additional stages of heating as required Selecting Emergency Heat Mode Press the mode button until E Ht appears on the display In this mode the back up heat source other than the heat pump will maintain temperatures according to the progranming previously completed unless an override temperature has been entered Autoratic Heating and Cooling This mode can be useful during times of the year and in climates when it is cool at night requiring heating but wannin the aftemoon requiring cooling Press and release the MODE button until the word AUTO appears on the display In this mode the heat puns will maintain the temperature according to the progranming previously completed unless an override temperature has been entered The heating and cooling systems will not operate at the sane time Either will tum on depending on which prograntred set point is closest to t
11. ew the set points press and hold the OUTDOOR button then press the FAN button Hi bP and its temperature value will appear on the display Next press the OUTDOOR button again and Lo bP and its temperature value will appear on the display After approximately 15 seconds the display will retum to nonral 20 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 23 After accessing a balance point it can be changed by pressing the pecrease J button or increase GY button This should only be done after consulting with a qualified contractor Injproperly set balance points can resultin increased energy expenses and possible equipment damage Using The Available Red LED Indicators This model is equipped with 3 LED indicator lights These LEDs are located along the top edge of the thermostat panel not on the display and look like srrall clear edges protruding out of the top of the thermostat The center LED is factory wired and will glow red when the back up heat source is being used When the left and or right LED is supplied with a 24 VAC signal the LEDs glow red and can be used to indicate many other systemfunctions such as when the hunidifier or fresh air exchanger is running Use of left and right LEDs will require additional wiring at the thenmostat and equipment which should only be done by a qualified heating and cooling contractor Optional Settings For Aciiitional Thermostat Features The Model 8554 thermostat is equipped with 6 DIP
12. gain The clock is now set and the current tine appears on the display 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 7 Setting Or Changing The Program Programming your Aprilaire Hectronic Then rostat involves selecting the temperature you want in your horre and selecting the time you want it to be that temperature Your Aprilaire Thenmostat will allow a maxinumof 4 time schedules per day Each time schedule is known as an event The Moming event is typically when you wake up and is the first event of the day The Dery event is typically set when you leave for work The Evening event is typically set when you corre horre fromwork and the Nightevent is set when you go to bed Each event will have 2 temperatures 1 heating ten perature and 1 cooling temperature The cooling temperature must be at least 2 degrees higher than the heating ten perature Your Aprilaire Thenmostat allows 1 programfor Monday through Friday and 1 programfor Saturday and Sunday Complete the chart on page 7 with your desired temperatures and time schedules before beginning programing Progressive Recovery Your Aprilaire Thenmostat is equipped with a programing feature called Progressive Recovery This feature assures that your house will economically achieve the desired confort temperature at the programred time when retuming froman economy or setback temperature For example if you like a wake up temperature of 68 F at 600 AM froma setback of 65 F it is not necessary to set
13. he room temperature Note that both the Snowflake we and Hane 7g icons are on the display The Snowflake will flash or the Aane will flicker depending on whether the heat pump is heating or cooling Turing the Systemofrk Press the MODE button until the word OFF appears on the display In this mode neither heating nor air conditioning will operate regardless of the temperature The themostat 19 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 22 can still be prograntred the optional outdoor temperature sensor will work and the heat pump fan will tum on if the FAN button is pressed To avoid frozen water pipes DO NOT use the OFF mode for long periods of time during sub freezing temperatures NOTE After selecting a new mode the thenrostat initiates a delay of up to 4 minutes to protect the heat pump Setting High And Low Balance Points If your systemis installed with the required Model 8041 Rerote Outdoor Sensor the high and low balance points should have been properly set by your contractor Heat Pumps operate by extracting energy out of the outdoor air and transferring it to the indoor air This process is efficient over a wide range of temperatures However at low outdoor temperatures there is a point at which it becomes more economical to operate the back up heat without the heat punp Conversely the use of back up heat with the heat pump during mild weather could use more energy than is required to heat the horre To revi

18. o C or F by simultaneously pressing the pecrense J button and the creas button Checking the Outoloor Temperature If your thenvrostat was installed with the optional Aprilaire Outdoor Temperature Sensor simply press the OUTDOOR button and the thenmostat will display the outdoor temperature for 5 seconds before automatically retuming to the actual roomtemperature display TIME CONTROL Change From12 to 24 Hour Clock Press and release the CLOCK button then press the MODE button To retum to a standard clock repeat the process 17 110 792B 7 12 01 8 28 AM Page 20 EQUIPMENT CONTROL Turing onthe Fan At any time the systemfan can run continuously by pressing the FAN button Note that a Fanicon appears in the lower part of the display indicating that the fan is continuously operating To retum the fan to the normal operating mode press the FAN button again which will remove the icon fromthe display In the normal operating mode the fan will only run when the heating or air conditioning is operating Continuous fan operation is beneficial if your systemis equipped with a high efficiency air cleaner or a humidifier or to circulate air in the home when neither heating nor air conditioning is needed Selecting Cooling Mode Press the MODE button until the word GOOL appears on the display In this mode the cooling systemwill maintain the temperature according to the progranming previously completed unless an ov
