F 48 C for a period of 3 hours before the thenrostat automatically retums to the Daysetting If the thermostat does not respond when a button is pushed it nay be because the keypad has been locked A Lock icon will appear when a button other than Outdoor is pushed if the keypad has been locked 10 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 13 F Setting High And Low Balance Points Modis 2536 amp amp 37 only High and low balance points can only be accessed if the Aprilaire Model 8041 Remote Outdoor Sensor has been installed To check if this optional accessory has been installed press the Outdoor button If a tenperature appears the Model 8041 Rente Outdoor Sensor has been installed During heating heat punps operate by extracting energy out of the outdoor air and transferring it to the indoor air This process is efficient over a wide range of tenperatures However at low outdoor ten peratures there is a point at which it becomes nore economical to operate the back up heat without the heat pun This is called the Low Balance Point Lo bP Conversely the use of back up heat with the heat pun during mild weather could use more energy than is required to heat the hore At outdoor tenperatures exceeding the High Balance Point Hi bP use of the back up heat is limited to Errergency Heat operation only To review the set points press and hold the Outdoor button and press the Fan button Hi bP and its tenperature value w

6. ill appear on the display Next press the Outdoor button again and Lo bP and its tenperature value will appear on the display After approximately 15 seconds the display will retum to nonrel B L 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 14 F After accessing a balance point it can be changed by pressing the pecrense Y button or morease Gy button This should only be done after consulting with a qualified contractor Inqproperly set balance points can result in increased energy expenses and possible equipment damage In Case OF Power Failure This thenrostat does not require a battery If the power goes out the display is blank During the period that the power is off the heating cooling systemwill not operate When the power is restored the thenrostat will default to the Day setting and the current node of operation at the tine of the power outage This thenrostat is equipped with a continuous memory feature which does not require any battery The thenrostat will never lose the four prograntred tenperature settings regardless of the length of the power outage CGeaning If the surface of the thenrostat becorres dirty it can be cleaned with plain water or many non abrasive household cleaners such as glass cleaner When using any cleaner be careful not to get any into the interior of the therrostat Do not spray any cleaner directly onto the therrostat Spray the cleaner onto a soft cloth and wipe the surface of the thenrostat
7. n and increase QS DAY NIGHT button to adjust the setting Figure 3 Adjust Cool Settings d Press the DAY NIGHT button until the C icon Nightsetting appears on the display e Use the pacrease 0 button and increase button to adjust the setting 6 K 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 9 F Operating The Aprilaire Thenrostat L Selectthe mode of operation by repeatedly pressing the MODE button until the desired mode appears on the display E ht Errergency Heat Models 8536 and 8537 only The heating and cooling systemmay be tumed off by selecting the ORF mode Do not set to the ORF mode during periods when freezing tenperatures may occur COOL In the GOOL node a Snowflake C9 icon appears on the display which flashes when the heat pum is running HEAT In the HEB mode a Hane 0 icon appears on the display which flickers when the heat pump is running EMERGENCY HEAT Models 8536 and 8537 only In the Errergency Heat mode E ht appears on the display and only the back up heat source other than the heat pump will be used to maintain ten perature The center LED located at the top of the thenrostat will light when the back up heat source is running AUTO In the ALAO mode the heat pun will operate in either the IHEA or GOOL node depending on which current setting the roomten perature is closest to Note that both the Snowtates SE and Rare icons appear
8. o view current set point 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 5 p Getting Faniliar with the Apilaire Themostat refer to Figure 1 The LCD Liquid Crystal Display normally shows the roomten perature the current node of operation if the Day or Nightternjperature setting is being used and if the systemfan is set for continuous operation Tenperature Display Roomtenperature can be displayed in either degrees Fahrenheit or degrees Celsius If the displayed tenperature seems abnormally high or low example 70F is equal to 21 C press the pecrense button and INCREASE N button simultaneously to switch between F and C Mode Button Four modes of operation are available for all the DSL heat pun then rostat models Heat Cool Auto and Off Additionally with the Models 8536 and 8537 Enrergency Heat mode is available The mode of operation indicates how you want your heating and cooling equipment to operate Press the MODE button until the desired mode of operation shows on the display Tenperature Settings Day Night Button The thenrostat stores four tenperature settings in its menory two for heating Emergency Heat uses the Sarre set points as the Heat mode and two for cooling The two tenperatures for each node are called 23 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 6 p the Day setting D a sun icon appears on the display and the Nightsetting 1G a noon icon appears on the display The Day setting is intended to be an occupied o

10. r confort setting and the Night setting is intended to be an unoccupied or energy savings setting For exanple the four settings stored in the rrerrory of the thenrostat night be as shown in Table 1 Pressing the DAY NIGHT button allows you to instantly change to a more econonical setting when leaving the house or going to bed and to a comfort setting when retuming horre or waking up This DAY NI thenrostat is equipped with accessory inputs which can be used to automatically switch between day and night set points contact cot FS your installing contractor for nore details Table 1 Typical Set Point Values Fan Button The systemfan will operate automatically during a heating or cooling cycle If it is desired to run the fan continuously press the FAN button and a ron Of icon will appear on the display Qutcbor Button This button will be made functional when the optional Aprilaire Model 8041 Rerrote Outdoor Sensor has been installed It can then be used to find out the outdoor tenperature fromindoors If the Model 8041 Rerrote Outdoor Sensor has not been installed two dashes will appear on the display when this button is pushed 4 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 7 p Setting Up The Apnilaire Themostat To ensure accurate tenperature control observe the following sinple guidelines gt When the thenrostat is operating close the cover to allow proper air circulation over the temperature sensor Do not place an
11. t tenperature settings For exanple if the Day Cool tenperature shown in Figure 3 were changed from 78F to 76F the 76F setting would remain in memory as the Day Cool setting Note The Cool tenperature setting must remain 2F higher than the Heat tennperature setting for both the Day and Night sets The thenrvostat will automatically update the setting not being changed In the exanple above if the Day Heat setting was 75F the thenrostat would have autorratically changed the setting to 74 F when the Cool setting was changed to 76F OPTION 2 Use the DAY NIGHT button Press the DAY NIGHT button to instantly change the ten perature setting to one of the two settings stored in memory 9 110 965B 7 12 01 9 12 AM Page 12 F Optional Feature Locking The Keypad If tampering with the thenrostat is expected and unwanted the keypad can be locked by changing the position of the Keypad Lock DIP switch switch no 4 fromthe factory set OFF position to ON The DIP switches are located inside the thenrostat on the circuit board To access the DIP switches refer to the Installation Instructions that carre with the thenrostat or consult your contractor In the locked position only the following functions can be done The outdoor tenperature button will display the outdoor tenperature The thenrostat will default to the Day setting N The Decrease E button and marense Gy button will tenporarily change the Day setting a meaxinumof 46
