INE ig Operating Controls Operating Instructions STARTING THE MACHINE ALWAYS disengage the PTO clutch and put the FSC in the NEUTRAL PARK posi tion before starting the engine Referto the appropriate Tractor Owners Manual for tractor starting and operating procedures ENGAGING THE AERATOR Refer to the appropriate Tractor Owner s Manual for tractor starting and operating procedures 1 Release the tines into the operating position by pushing on the foot trigger and using the lift lever to lower the tines Set the engine throttle at full speed Begin driving the tractor forward slowly Pull the PTO clutch lever UP to engage the aerator A safety interlock switch seat switch will cause the engine to stop if the FSC is out of the NEUTRAL PARK position and the operator is not in the seat The function of this switch should be checked by the operator raising off the seat with the trac tor moving forward allow 1 to 1 1 2 sec onds off the seat for the time delay function the engine should stop If the safety system is not working it should be repaired or replaced before operating the mower DO NOT disconnect the safety switches they are for the operator s pro tection IMPORTANT DO NOT engage the PTO clutch when transporting the machine DO NOT engage the PTO clutch with the PTO shaft disconnected the aerator removed from the tractor Normal Operation IMP

RPM If the collar is not locked to the PTO shaft at the tractor end or if the yoke at the aerator end is not secured properly the driveline can fly loose with great force capable of causing serious injury or death Install the hitch pin through the hole on the end of each support arm to lock the hitch in place Two 2 hitch pins are included in the owner s packet of materials 10 Operating Instructions CONTROL IDENTIFICATION LOCATION AND FUNCTION Before operating the aerator become fa miliar with the location and function of all operator controls Knowing the loca tion function and operation of these controls is important for safe and effi cient operation of the aerator Tractor Controls Refer to the appropriate Tractor Owner s Manual for complete information about tractor operating con trols Lift Lever Lift Lever The lift lever is located to the right of the operator up from the right footrest The lever is used to raise and lower the camshaft assembly Moving the lift handle forward lowers the aerator drive assembly moving it backward raises the aerator drive assembly Foot Trigger The foot trigger is located on the right footrest The foot trigger and the lift lever are used together to raise and lower the aerator drive assembly Pull the handle back press the foot trigger and hold on to the lift handle while letting it move forward to lower the aerator drive assembly

Ref Chain Guard Drive Chain Adjustment 1 4 to 1 2 in 6to 13 mm Slack at 2 Proper Drive Chain Tension Tine Ends Tine ends are adjustable by using the following pro cedure 1 Loosen the retaining nut on the tine thread and unscrew tine end to achieve the desired depth Open side of tine should be to rear IMPORTANT Do not unscrew the tine ends too far The maximum aerating depth is 2 1 2 in 6 35 cm Tighten retaining nut Retaining Nut Tine Opening to Face Rear of Unit Tine End Depth Adjustment Maintenance Instructions REPLACING REPAIRING REMOVAL 1 Park the tractor on a level surface with the tines CAUTION in the up position ALWAYS use genuine factory replacement parts Substitute parts CAN result in prod uct malfunction and possible injury to the operator and or others DO NOT attempt to make any replace ments or repairs with the tractor engine running Disengage the PTO clutch shut off the machine and remove the ignition key Wait for all movement to stop before getting off the seat Tine Ends Tine ends are replaceable by using the following procedure 1 Loosen the retaining nut on the tine thread and unscrew tine end Install new tine end by reversing the removal procedure Open side of tine should be to rear DO NOT attempt to remove the aerator from the tractor with the engine running Disengage the PTO clutch shut off the mach

IT Operator Decal Walker P N 6682 14 Assembly Instructions SETUP INSTRUCTIONS The PERFAERATOR is shipped partially assem bled After uncrating initial setup is required NOTE During the process of unpacking any dam aged or missing parts should be noted and reported to the delivering carrier immediately put in writing within 15 days The carrier will provide directions for proceeding with a claim to receive compensation for damage Lift Lever Installation The lift lever for the camshaft assembly position is partially assembled Stand the lift lever upright and attach the remaining hardware Install Lift Lever Handle stand upright and insert hardware Installation on Tractor 1 Remove the mower deck from the tractor if nec essary Refer to the appropriate Tractor Owner s Manual Lightly grease each tractor support arm 2 on the tractor Mounting Tubes Attach Aerator to Tractor Engage the aerator frame tube sockets on the tractor support arms Slide the implement hitch onto the support arms approximately 3 in 76 mm Only use PTO U Joint Tube P N 7275 15 9 06 in OAL Connect Driveline Coupler to Tractor PTO Connect the aerator driveline to the tractor PTO shaft by sliding back the locking collar on the yoke then push the yoke over the PTO shaft until the locking collar snaps back fully Make sure the driveline is well secured at both ends This shaft turns at very high

ORTANT The aerator has a natural driving mo tion when engaged so the speed of the tractor is critical to ensure proper aeration and longevity of aerator componenis 1 Adjust ground speed to properly position tines as shown IMPORTANT If ground speed is too fast the retractor plates will swing away from the front causing a shallow plugged hole IMPORTANT If ground speed is too slow the retractor plates will swing forward and make constant contact with the front frame resulting in excessive wear of tines and retractor plates Adjust Ground Speed As onum Indicated By Decal mid Lubricate Grease Fitting On Cam Rings 12 Fittings Every 4 Hours If an obstacle is encountered during operation sprinkler head sidewalk etc the PTO can be disengaged and reengaged after passing obstacle IMPORTANT Minimum turning radius is 10 feet 3 05 m Turning too tight can result in damage to the turf and the aerator DO NOT pull the retractor lever while operating 11 12 Operating Instructions RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AERATING For best results the ground must have a sufficient amount of moisture to allow the tines maximum pen etration IMPORTANT Operate the engine at full speed when operating the aerator to allow the engine to produce full horsepower and to increase efficiency of the engine cooling system Do not drive the mower backwards with the aerator in the down position it may cause severe turf da

Walker P N 7822 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS START 1 RELEASE THE TINES INTO THE OPERATING POSITION p BY DEPRESSING THE FOOT TRIGGER AND USING THE En ADJUST GROUND SPEED LIFT LEVER TO LOWER THE TINES C AS INDICATED BY DECAL SET THE ENGINE AT FULL THROTTLE BEGIN DRIVING THE TRACTOR FORWARD SLOWLY PULL THE PTO CLUTCH LEVER UP TO ENGAGE THE AERATOR ADJUST GROUND SPEED TO PROPERLY POSITION TINES FOR BEST PERFORMANCE AND SERVICE IF GROUND SPEED IS TOO FAST THE RETRACTOR PLATES WILL SWING AWAY FROM THE FRONT CAUSING A SHALLOW PLUGGED HOLE IF GROUND SPEED IS TOO SLOW THE RETRACTOR PLATES WILL SWING FORWARD AND MAKE CONSTANT CONTACT WITH THE FRONT FRAME RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE WEAR OF TINES AND RETRACTOR PLATES STOP 0R BACK UP 1 DISENGAGE PTO CLUTCH LEVER WHILE MOVING FORWARD 2 BRING THE TRACTOR TO A COMPLETE STOP 3 PULL BACK ON THE LIFT LEVER TO LOCK THE TINES NOTE LUBRICATE GREASE FITTING NOTE MOMENTARILY DISENGAGING THE PTO WILL ON CAM RINGS 12 FITTINGS ALLOW THE TINES TO FLOAT OVER OBJECTS EVERY 4 HOURS SPRINKLER HEADS SIDEWALKS ETC IN THE AERATING PATH WITH THE TRACTOR MOVING FORWARD A CAUTION DO NOT ENGAGE PTO CLUTCH LEVER UNTIL TINES ARE RELEASED AND TRACTOR IS MOVING FORWARD DO STOP TRACTOR WITH PTO CLUTCH LEVER ENGAGED DO BACK UP TRACTOR WITH TINES IN OPERATING POSITION DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LIFT TINES INTO RETRACTED POSITION WHILE OPERATING UN

14. d operator should learn to steer maneuver the tractor with a slow en gine speed before attempting any operating Be aware that with the front mounted implement configuration the back of the machine swings to the outside during turns Remember for an emergency stop the forward motion of the tractor can always be stopped by pulling the Forward Speed Control FSC into the NEUTRAL PARK position Disengage the PTO clutch and put the FSC in the NEUTRAL PARK position before starting the engine an ignition interlock switch normally prevents starting of the tractor if these controls are in the OPERATING position Do not run the engine in a confined area without adequate ventilation Exhaust fumes are hazardous and can be deadly Do not carry passengers maximum seating capacity is one 1 person Make sure the tines are clear of debris before engaging the PTO clutch Be careful never to allow anyone in front of the implement Clear area of loose objects and all children Flag sprinkler heads and other hidden obsta cles Walk the entire area before aerating for possible holes Avoid sudden starts or stops Before backing the machine up disengage the PTO retract tines and look to the rear to be sure no one is behind the machine Watch carefully for traffic when crossing or working near roadways Safety Instructions Disengage the PTO clutch when transporting the machine Do not operate across the face

21. mage Driving the tractor too slow may cause turf damage Driving the tractor too fast will make aeration holes appear less frequently and too shallow short plugs may do a less than desirable job Do not engage the PTO with the drive assembly in the transport position STOPPING THE MACHINE 1 2 Disengage the PTO clutch Pull the steering levers to the NEUTRAL position and then move the FSC lever backward to the NEUTRAL PARK position Slow the engine to idle put the throttle in the IDLE position Retract the tines into the transport position using the lift lever A brake stops the machine from free wheeling within five 5 seconds after dis engaging the PTO clutch If the brake sys tem malfunctions and the machine does not stop within five 5 seconds the brake should be adjusted or repaired before op erating the machine Refer to the appro priate Tractor Owners Manual for adjustment procedures Turn the ignition switch OFF Remove the key from the ignition switch when leaving the machine unattended This will prevent children and inexperi enced operators from starting the engine Engage the parking brake IMPORTANT The hydrostatic transmissions lock to prevent the machine from rolling freely with the engine stopped However if the machine is parked on a slope it is necessary to ENGAGE the parking BRAKE to prevent the machine from creeping This is due to a small amount of slippage in the hydro
22. o not operate with bystanders in the area Do not operate the machine wearing sneakers tennis shoes or similar lightweight footwear Wear substantial protective footwear that will improve footing on slippery surfaces Ground cover or leaves can sometimes hide ob jects that might cause damage to the aerator Clear the area of objects and mark all sprinkler heads and or utility box covers Do not wear loose fitting clothing that could get caught in moving parts Always wear ade quate protective clothing including long pants Wearing safety glasses safety shoes and a helmet is advisable and required by some local ordinances and insurance regulations Safety Instructions 8 Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause impairment or loss of hearing Operator hear ing protection is recommended Wear a suit able hearing protective device such as earmuffs or earplugs Keep all protective shields and safety devic es in place If a protective shield safety device or decal is damaged unusable or missing re pair or replace it before operating the machine Be sure any interlock switches are function ing correctly so the engine cannot be started unless the Forward Speed Control lever is in the NEUTRAL position and the PTO clutch is in the DISENGAGED position Also the engine should stop if the operator lifts off the seat with either the Forward Speed Control FSC out of the NEUTRAL PARK position or the PTO clutch in
23. of slopes Use extreme caution when changing direction on slopes Never adjust tine depth with the engine run ning Before adjusting tines or servicing disen gage the PTO clutch stop the engine and remove the ignition key Wait for all movement to stop before getting off the seat NOTE The PTO brake should normally stop drive line rotation within 5 seconds of disengag ing the PTO clutch Donot operate the aerator with the covers open If the aerator tines do not move when the PTO is engaged a Disengage the PTO clutch stop the engine and remove the ignition key before leaving the seat LOOK to make sure PTO shaft and the tine movement has stopped before servicing any area of the machine Disconnect the fuel solenoid wire diesel en gines or spark plug wire s gasoline en gines Ifthe implement strikes a solid object or the ma chine begins to vibrate abnormally immediate ly disengage the PTO clutch stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop Disconnect the fuel solenoid wire diesel en gines or the spark plug wire s gasoline en gines to prevent accidental starting Thoroughly inspect the implement and repair any damage before restarting the engine and operating the machine Make sure implement components are in good condition and all bolts are tight Do not touch the engine or muffler while the engine is running or immediately after stop ping the engine These areas may be ho

25. purpose lithium or molybdenum base grease Liftin Mechanism Lubricating Lift Mechanism and Camshaft Drive Camshaft Drive System Lubricate the grease fittings 16 on the camshaft drive system every 4 hours Use Almagard 3752 lubricant Walker P N 6685 7 The bearings at each end and attached to the retrac tor plate arms are sealed and should be greased ev ery 100 hours of operation Use SAE general purpose lithium or molybdenum base grease PTO U Joint Lubricate the grease fitting for the PTO U Joint ev ery 8 hours with SAE general purpose lithium or molybdenum base grease The PTO U Joint is accessed by removing the gear box cover 14 Maintenance Instructions ADJUSTMENTS DO NOT attemptto make any adjustments with the tractor engine running Disen gage the PTO clutch shut off the machine and remove the ignition key Wait for all movement to stop before getting off the seat Drive Chain Tension The drive chain should have 1 4 to 1 2 in 6 to 13 mm of slack at midspan Remove the chain guard cover to check slack Adjust the drive chain as follows 1 Remove the three 3 bolts fastening the remov able chain guard cover to the frame Loosen the chain tension block mounting nut and bolt see photo below Position the chain tension block so the chain has 1 4 to 1 2 in 6 to 13 mm of slack Retighten the chain tension block mounting nut and bolt Recheck the drive chain tension
26. static transmis sions especially when transmission fluid is warm Maintenance Instructions LUBRICATION DO NOT attempt to lubricate the machine with the tractor engine running Disen gage the PTO clutch shut off the ma chine and remove the ignition key Grease Fitting and Oil Point Lubrication Lubricate the grease fittings and oil points after ev ery 8 hours of operation or as recommended be low Use Almagard 3752 Walker P N 6685 7 grease for grease fittings and light machine oil SAE 10 to lubricate oil points Gearbox The gearbox is permanently lubricated oil filled and sealed requiring no scheduled lubrication How ever the gearbox oil seal s should be checked ev ery 25 hours for indication of an oil leak If gearbox oil is changed fill with 15 oz 44 cl of 80W 90 gear oil Do not overfill Drive Chain Lubricate the drive chain every 8 hours A light penetrating oil or special purpose chain oil is recom mended Lubricate the drive chain as follows 1 Remove the three 8 bolts fastening the removable chain guard cover to the frame Remove Chain Guard Cover Apply oil to the drive chain Adjust the chain if necessary Refer to AD JUSTMENTS of Drive Chain Tension in this section Reinstall chain guard cover by reversing the re moval procedure Lifting Mechanism Lubricate the grease fittings 4 across the lifting mechanism attached to the frame every 25 hours Use SAE general
