PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB By Norman Berman The Valencia Shores Photo Club meets year round on the first and third Monday of each month unless otherwise noted All Valencia residents are invited to attend The Photo Club is always seeking new members If you have an interest in photography and wish to make your photos better come to one of our meetings and then consider joining You do not have to have special equipment MEETING SCHEDULE The May meeting schedule will be Monday May 7 and Monday May 21 The meetings will be in the Arts and Crafts room at 4 00pm We have not yet determined the topic nor the challenge themes yet At the April 2 meeting there was a presentation and discussion entitled GOOD ART MAKES GOOD PHOTOS In this presentation there was a power point slide show which showed examples of famous paintings and photos that demonstrated how elements of art are employed in our photos The noted early 20th century photographer Lewis said that in order to make a good photo one has to understand what makes good art As photography became more of an art form photographers and artists used photography as another medium like oil paint watercolor or pencil to create more artistic images The presentation was followed by a Q and A session Challenge 78 COLOR ME FAVORITE COLOR S was critiqued at the April 16 meeting Members were challenged to take photos that exemplified their favorite colors The results were most interesting The them2. e has yet to be announced PHOTO TIP Don t rely on the AUTO FOCUS MODE constantly While you will generally get a good photo there are other modes that will enable you to be more successful in achieving better results Use such modes as APERTURE SHUTTER SPEED and check the icons that will give you more options If you are not familiar with these modes refer to your user manual Continue to take lots of photos Remember that you are not wasting film There is no film in our digital cameras What we don t like we can delete or erase ALL RESIDENTS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND OUR MEETINGS AN EARLY REMINDER THE 2013 FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY FEBRUARY 15 AND 16 2013 For information about the Valencia Shores Photo Club contact Norman Berman at normberman comcast net or Paul Zeldin at phz123 hotmail com
