Leica Geosystems Viva TPS October 2010 TS11 15 Total Stations Check and Adjust Procedure Summary Leica builds total stations to the highest quality and calibrates each instrument before it leaves the Factory After the instrument is shipped or used in the field under changing temperature conditions the instrument will physically change In order to provide the customer with the ability to field calibrate every total station Leica offers the Check and Adjust routine on the TS11 15 instruments This guide will explain why the Check and Adjust is needed and how to perform the procedure This procedure will allow the user to assure that the instrument is providing measurements to standards eica Geosystems 2010 Leica Geosystems Inc All rights reserved when it has to be right TS11 15 Check and Adjust Why is procedure needed Why is the procedure needed When should you perform procedure What adjustments are determined by procedure TS11 15 Total Stations FW Ver 3 00 Check and Adjust Procedure Leica instruments are manufactured assembled and adjusted to the best possible quality Quick temperature changes shock or stress can cause deviations and influence the instrument accuracy The physical relationship of the axis of the instrument are physically different if the operating temperature of the instrument is 32 F 0 C versus 95 F 35 C Materials contract and expand Survey instr

6. to be setup in a place that is protected from direct sunlight in order to avoid one side of the instrument being heated more than the opposite side of the instrument The best conditions can be found usually early in the morning and with overcast sky Setting the instrument up under a tree for shaded area or on a shaded side of a building are good common locations that can be used If you are also performing the test for ATR adjustments you will need to set up a Leica circular prism approximately 330 ft 100 m away from the instrument You can setup the prism being used as the target for the testing in direct sunlight Setup up the prism within 9 of the horizontal plane of the instrument you need to use a Leica circular prism Do not use a 360 prism for this procedure Note f you are not performing the procedure for ATR you do not need to use a prism for the procedure The combined test procedure the titling axis procedure and compensator only test will be explained TS11 15 Total Stations FW Ver 3 00 OCT 2010 Check and Adjust Procedure Page 4 22 T 11 15 Check and Adjust Performing Combined Test Procedure Accessing After you have prepared the instrument as explained in the Preparation and Field Requirements Check and section you can follow the Check and Adjust Wizard Adjust Wizard From the main menu select 4 User t Go to Work a sebup total station Survey amp stake pbs Next select 5 Check amp

Redo More Back Continue out of the Check amp Adjust Wizard and you now ready to perform measurements with you TS instrument which is now automatically applying these new corrections to measurements You now only need to perform the Tilting Axis Adjustment a to have a fully calibrated instrument TS11 15 Total Stations FW Ver 3 00 OCT 2010 Check and Adjust Procedure Page 10 22 TS11 15 Check and Adjust Performing Tilting Axis Adjustment Tilting Axis You will now perform the Tilting Axis a adjustment the tilting axis error a is caused by the Adjustment change between the mechanical tilting axis and the line perpendicular to the vertical axis Procedure Please refer to Leica Viva Series Technical Reference Manual version 3 Pages 622 647 for detailed explanation and diagrams of axis relationships The requirements for acclimating the instrument and keeping the instrument from direct sunlight are still the same as required by the Combined Adjustment Most users perform the Combined Adjustment and then follow with the Tilting Axis procedure To avoid influences from the Hz collimation error c you should determined prior to the tilting axis error which is done in the Combined Adjustment You do not need a prism target to perform the Tilting Axis adjustment To access this procedure select the Check amp adjust the tilting axis option in the Check and Adjust Wizard SR 8 Loy p Check amp Adjust Wizard What do y

13. he instrument acclimate to the surrounding temperature have a good solid setup that will not be disturbed during the procedure and you need to have the instrument setup in a place where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight during the procedure One of the most important things that the operator needs to do is to remember to manually point at the target when prompted by the routine on the TS The needed preparation and field requirements in detail are as follows 1 First get the instrument acclimated to the current working environment temperature This needs to be started first and then can continue while you are performing other steps in the preparation When you arrive at the place where the instrument will be setup to perform the procedure open up the instrument case to expose the instrument to direct contact with the working environment If you are taking the instrument out of a building or out of a vehicle that has a different temperature other than the one of the working environment you will need to wait until the instrument has become acclimated to the ambient air temperature of the work site The rule of thumb or this is to wait 2 minutes per every 2 F or per 1 C of difference in the temperature of the place where the instrument originated and the ambient air temperature of the work site Setup the instrument in a very stable place that will not be effect by vibrations or other disturbances during the procedure The instrument needs

22. t conditions Select F1 Finish to accept the final results of the procedure Continued on Next Page OCT 2010 Page 15 22 TS11 15 Check and Adjust Performing Compensator Procedure Compensator land t Procedure The compensator adjustment procedure determines the following instrument errors Compensator longitudinal index error t Compensator transversal index error These are also determined in the Combined Procedure explained earlier If the user desires to determine these values for each setup he can perform the compensator procedure The compensator index errors occur if the vertical axis of the instrument and the plumb line are parallel but the zero points of the compensator and the circular level do not coincide The calibration procedure electronically adjusts the zero point of the compensator The plane of the dual axis compensator of the TPS1200 is defined by a longitudinal component in the direction of the telescope and a transversal component perpendicular to the telescope The requirements for acclimating the instrument and keeping the instrument from direct sunlight are still the same as required by the Combined Adjustment This procedure requires no target Motorized version of the TS instruments will automatically turn the instrument after measuring but non motorized version will need to be manually orientated between measurements To access this procedure please choose the Check amp adjust the compensat
