ONYX User Manual ONYX 5K 5000g x 1g Copyright 2011 American Weigh Scales Inc K All rights reserved Rev 2 1 Thank you for purchasing the American Weigh ONYX digital kitchen scale Please read all operating instructions carefully before use Scales are precision measuring devices and should always be handled with proper care To ensure years of reliable service keep these simple tips in mind e Do not exceed the scale s maximum capacity This scale has integrated overload protection but any overload protection has its limits e Avoid weighing in extreme heat or cold Scales perform best at normal room temperature e This scale has been calibrated at the factory Only advanced users should attempt recalibration using the specified calibration masses e Store your scale in a clean dry location Dust dirt and moisture can accumulate on the weighing sensors and electronics causing inaccuracy or malfunction e Keep the area around and under the scale clean Loose debris under the scale can push against the base causing inaccuracy e Avoid using your scale in close proximity to strong radio wave emitting devices such as cordless phones e Always weigh on a flat and level surface free from vibrations and drafts The corner of a room is usually the most stable e Gently apply all items to be weighed Do not drop items onto the weighing platform Overload protection does not protect the sensor from shock load2. 1 Place the empty container or vessel on the weighing platform 2 Press the fare key once The display will then reset to zero If the container is removed its weight will be displayed as a negative number 3 You may now fill the container with the quantity to be weighed The display will show just the weight of the contents 4 To return to normal weight display gross weight remove any items from the weighing platform and press the ose key again to re zero the scale VI Changing the Unit of Measure 1 Press the ir key to change the scale s displayed unit of measure 2 If the scale is turned off then back on it will default to the Vil last unit used ONYX 5K Units g gram Ib oz pound ounce oz ounce ml milliliter fl oz fluid ounce US Calibration Adjustment Advanced Users Only Calibration is performed at the factory Only advanced users should attempt calibration if the scale is not weighing properly 1 2 With no weight on the scale tap the Turn the scale on and wait for zero to be displayed Tap the oR key four times holding the key on the last tap A random number will be displayed TARE key again to set the zero point After a couple of seconds the display will show ZERO followed by 0000 2 Place a 2000g calibration weight on the center of the platform After a couple of seconds the display will show CAL1 followed by another rando
