Figure 4 1 Picture 4 1 2002 General Binding Corporation Page 1 23 Discovery Cutter Operation and Maintenance Manual 4 6 Electric connections Itis the user s responsibility to set up a proper system of power mains switchboard intake grounding system in compliance with current regulations The power source must be adequate to the machine and must comply with standard edges the electric devices of the Discovery Cutter apply to the CEI EN 60204 1 standards The system must be equipped with an automatic release system with a differential magnetothermal switch and grounding system which must guarantee the minimum parameters required by regulations and be in compliance with specific laws in force in the country where the machine is installed A PLEASE NOTE independently from the voltage required for machine operation the machine comes with a number of spare generic fuses see par 3 2 for the characteristics of these fuses Before making the connections make sure that the characteristics of the power mains correspond to those indicated on the machine plate Make sure that the voltage selected on the voltage changer is the same as that of the power mains Make sure that the main switch is on 0 Do not make makeshift connections with the use of extension cords and or temporary cables Clearly indicate the presence on the ground of the feeding cable if it

45. er The miss cutting can be sporadic not happening on every cut The possible causes are 1 Need to redo the step Setup from section 5 3 Settings in the user manual Setup is also listed on page 4 of this service guide 2 The cutter has three modes Automatic Semi Automatic and Continuous There should only be cut size values entered in the mode being used Cycle through the unused modes and be sure that all cut size and other values are 0 3 Stepper motor needs amperage calibration 4 f the Discovery Cutter is located in a location with several laser printers or copiers around it The unit can suffer from the extreme amount of noise on the electrical system The repair is to connect the AC plug through a high quality electrical filter like used on a computer or plasma TV 5 Adjusting the paper edge sensor will have a slight effect on cut accuracy 6 A set screw may be loose on a drive system pulley Use blue Locktite and tighten 7 Side slitter blades may have film slivers and debris causing restricted rotation and overload or drag on the conveying motor Disassemble each slitter assembly clean lubricate and reassemble As a quick test slide the slitter assemblies over to the side frame and they will be offline Drive System Pulleys Detail Page 4 This procedure is called SETUP Certain settings are available for the operator to fine tune the Discovery Cutter The settings available to the operator in Setu
46. etween two consecutive prints is too small and therefore insufficient to form the two programmed edges Probable cause paper to close in web or web slipping The machine stops without cutting and E3 ALARM EDGE press CLEAR appears on the screen The operator will have to position the prints to be cut at his discretion trim them with the manual CUT input and reposition the material before pressing START once again Page 7 Slitter Blades The top slitter blade must settle over the edge of the bottom slitter blade for proper operation During a jam condition the top blade can jump up on top of the bottom blade If this occurs push point 1 with your fingers while pushing firmly at point 2 with a screwdriver tip or similar tool This operation is easier to do if screw A and B pictured below are loosened Follow the information below when re tightening screw A and A one way bearing in the bottom blade grips the drive shaft to drive the upper blade but will slip rotate to allow jammed film to be pulled out the back Over time small metal chips can develop in the one way bearing If the drive or slip performance is not working well remove the lower blade to clean and lube the one way bearing Also the slitter will always be happier with a lubricated upper blade spindle To improve slitter performance Loosen screws Aand B Press and hold at point X Retighten screws A and Insure all other screws are tight The slitter is alwa

78. t proceedure Page 1 Discovery Cutter Calibrations and Tips Calibration Procedure For Adjusting Web Drive Motor Amperage Lay the cutter on it s side with the control panel side up and the other side down on a work surface the side covers must be on for it to stand stable Remove the screws holding the bottom cover in place and set the bottom cover aside Shortage Bar must be in the down position Connect a DC amp meter in series with the stepper motor Do this by cutting any one of the two wire sets on the 4 position motor plug and clipping the meter inline Set the meter to 10 amps range Connect the positive lead to the lead coming from the board and the negative lead to the lead going to the motor Turn on the cutter and after it has booted software the meter should show 7 to 8 amps If it shows nothing press the run button and you should have 7 to 8 amps after the motor times out and stops With the power still on remove the jumper CV1 and adjust the work current with the trimmer R18 The target is 1 9 amps Put the jumper back and adjust the standby current with trimmer R17 The target is 0 7 to 0 8 A You may have to go back and forth because changing one setting will alter the other After the adjustment has been made turn the power off solder the wires back together and insulate them Replace the bottom cover FYI the factory has stated that service parts boards do come pre calibrated if all fuses are good and th
