16. age will need some form of advanced diagnostics to recode calibrate these components to the vehicle Take the piso crystal injector as an example This component utilises the properties of a piso crystal whereby SHIRE LEASING an electrical charge of 120V changes the physical dimensions of the crystal itself Inside the injector there are 13 000 wafers of piso crystal The injector can open and close five times in less than three milliseconds and the internal tolerance of the injector needle is less than two microns No two injectors are manufactured to the same tolerance which accounts for their unique coding To recode the injector for replacement requires a garage to use suitably advanced diagnostics The days when a technician knew which component was defective and merely replaced it are gone Modern technicians must now rely on advanced diagnostics to allow them to recode in order to replace a component Diesel Particulate Reduction The requirement to reduce soot emissions to acceptable levels has led to further development of diesel engines One manufacturer in particular Citro n Peugeot is achieving this by extending its FAP diesel particulate filter system to their entire range of diesel powered vehicles First seen in 2000 in the 406 2 2 HDI coupe FAP uses an additive called eloy which is injected into the main diesel tank and combusted in the usual way The exhaust gases are forced through the walls
