5. e Donot remove the covers or guards that are fastened with screws unless you are installing optional equipment and are instructed to do so Turn off the printer when performing these installations Disconnect the power cord when removing covers and guards for installing optional equipment Except for user installable options there are no parts that you can maintain or service behind these covers The following are hazards to your safety e The power cord is damaged or frayed e Liquid is spilled into the printer e The printer is exposed to water e The printer emits smoke or the surface is unusually hot e The printer emits unusual noise or odors e The printer causes a circuit breaker fuse or other safety device to activate If any of these conditions occur do the following 1 Turn off the printer immediately 2 Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet 3 Call an authorized service representative Xerox Phaser 6020 Printer 11 User Guide Safety Power Cord Use the power cord supplied with your printer e Plug the power cord directly into a properly grounded electrical outlet Ensure that each end of the cord is connected securely If you do not know if an outlet is grounded ask an electrician to check the outlet A WARNING To avoid risk of fire or electrical shock do not use extension cords power strips or power plugs for more than 90 days When a permanent outlet receptacle cannot be installed

19. to the original packaging and reseal it Do not store labels in extremely dry or humid conditions or extremely hot or cold conditions Storing them in extreme conditions can cause print quality problems or cause them to jam in the printer Rotate stock frequently Long periods of storage in extreme conditions can cause labels to curl and jam in the printer In the print driver software select Label as the paper type Before loading labels remove all other paper from the tray CAUTION Do not use any sheet where labels are missing curled or pulled away from the backing sheet It could damage the printer Printing on Glossy Cardstock You can print on Lightweight Glossy Cardstock that is 163 g m or less Do not open sealed packages of glossy cardstock until you are ready to load them into the printer Leave glossy cardstock in the original wrapper and leave the packages in the shipping carton until ready to use Remove all other paper from the tray before loading glossy cardstock Load only the amount of glossy cardstock you are planning to use Do not leave glossy cardstock in the tray when you are finished printing Replace unused cardstock in the original wrapper and seal Rotate stock frequently Long periods of storage in extreme conditions can cause glossy cardstock to curl and jam in the printer In the print driver software select the desired glossy cardstock type or select the tray loaded with the desired paper To opt
20. use only one factory assembled extension cord of the appropriate gauge per printer or multifunction printer Always adhere to national and local building fire and electrical codes regarding length of cord conductor size grounding and protection e Donotusea ground adapter plug to connect the printer to an electrical outlet that does not have a ground connection terminal e Verify that the printer is plugged into an outlet that is providing the correct voltage and power Review the electrical specification of the printer with an electrician if necessary e Donot place the printer in an area where people can step on the power cord e Do not place objects on the power cord e Do not plug or unplug the power cord while the power switch is in the On position e If the power cord becomes frayed or worn replace it e To avoid electrical shock and damage to the cord grasp the plug when unplugging the power cord The power cord is attached to the printer as a plug in device on the back of the printer If it is necessary to disconnect all electrical power from the printer disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet Emergency Turn Off If any of the following conditions occur turn off the printer immediately and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet Contact an authorized Xerox service representative to correct the problem if e The equipment emits unusual odors or makes unusual noises e The power cable is damaged
21. using cable or DSL check with your carrier for information on IP addressing Assigning the IP Address of the Printer By default the printer receives an IP address from a DHCP server over a TCP IP network Network addresses assigned by DHCP are temporary Once the addresses expire the network can assign a new one To assign a static IP address for your printer you can use the wireless connection method on the installer disk Once an IP address is assigned you can change it using CentreWare Internet Services or the Printer Setting Utility Notes e You can view the IP address of your printer on the Configuration Page e To enable continued use of the printer even if the IP Address assigned by the DHCP server changes you can use the installer or CentreWare Internet Services 38 Xerox Phaser 6020 Printer User Guide Installation and Setup Changing the IP Address Using CentreWare Internet Services To change the IP address of the printer using CentreWare Internet Services 1 At your computer open a Web browser in the address field type the IP address of the printer then press Enter or Return Note If you do not know the IP address of your printer see Finding the IP Address of Your Printer on page 24 Click the Properties link If the Protocols link is not expanded under Properties scroll to the Protocols link and expand it Click TCP IP In the IPv4 section of the page make the desired changes For example
