6. is that everything is in the French language but that French version has been coming out like clockwork 30 or 40 pages or so every two weeks Of course English is the international language of ham radio and the Editor for the French version advised early on that his group intended to put out an English language version too That has now happened and you can subscribe to the monthly English language version free online at http ham mag com The initial English issue has somewhat different content than the French language editions although a similar format so you should still check out the French editions too OVH ARC Newsletter January 2009 Pg 5 of 12 From the News amp Messenger Charlotte Gayle Churchill Coghill es Charlotte Gayle Churchill Coghill 64 of Manassas VA died December 10 2008 _ Born to the late Howard and Sallie Profitt Churchill Nov 11 1944 in Washington DC Charlotte graduated from Howey Academy in 1964 receiving a BA from Louisiana Tech in 1968 pitas Charlotte was a teacher at Didlake in the early 1970s worked at Grants then Wards for 25 years until retiring She was passionate about cross stitching receiving numerous awards for her _ work in the Prince William Co Fair and other competitions A member of the Manassas Baptist Church and TOPS for many years she also held amateur radio license KG4QX0 and was a member of the Ole Virginia Hams radio

11. ations to be determined later this month David also reminded everyone that you do need to be registered to participate David also led a discussion on the motion approved at the November meeting concerning club equipment being borrowed and needing a club officer s approval in advance David stated that this could be an issue during an emergency John KG4NXT made a motion that the previous policy on equipment no longer require an officer s pre approval in the case of emergency All equipment shall be logged out This motion passed Repeater Butch W4HJL reported that everything is A OK and that he will do some more work on the 440 machine shortly Education Mark WA4KFZ had 6 students take his Technician class everyone that showed up for the exam did pass Mark will be working on a General class next more info to follow Butch W4HJL advised that Bob K4HJF is interested in teaching an Extra Class class Hamfest Chris KI4POT held his first planning meeting last week and it was decided that we would use 8 foot tables in 2009 His Hamfest group is currently working on the programs and flyers so they can pass them out at the Richmond Hamfest Field Day Joe KI4OHR reported that the Nokesville site is reserved for this event in June 2009 Joe has asked Theresa KG4TVM to help get an elected official to the event Sunshine Corner Theresa KG4TVM announced the birthdays for December also thanked George amp Ev for

13. er pg 8 and you may want to review that if you will be attending the OVH meeting on Jan 19th 2009 at which HAARP s chief engineer will be the program speaker Randy K7AGE a prolific poster of excellent ham radio related tutorial type materials on youtube com produced an excellent video last year of his reception of direct and moonbounce signals from HAARP during the January 2008 experiments Check out http youtube com watch v L5E2ntIxAsc That video shows and describes the equipment K 7AGE used for his reception and signal processing of both the terrestrial signals from the HAARP transmitter as well as the long delayed signals from the HAARP transmitter which were reflected from the moon s surface K7AGE was able to receive terrestrial and moonbounce signals on each of the two frequencies used near the forty meter ham band used during the experiment Look at that before the meeting too More on HF Propagation The December 2008 Newsletter had a short article about HF Propagation which recommended again two seminal 1927 QST references A September 1936 QST article not previously mentioned by Kenrick titled The Kennelly Heaviside Layer Its Relationship to Our Everyday Communications Problems is also recommended reading This can be downloaded free by ARRL members from the ARRL s web site The Kennelly Heaviside Layer was formerly used to refer what everyone now refers to as the Ionosphere More on HF Propagation next month Usi
