6. of firsts In a little more than a month I ve amassed quite a collection of new experiences lve been squished like a sardine on my morning met ro commute to work and squished even more on my way home I ve gotten lost so regularly that I ve considered buying a compass I ve also gotten to know Paris inside and out literally lve even been to the sew ers Just a couple weeks ago confronted my fear of using the tele phone in French at work it went well thank goodness and made French news when a TV crew interviewed me at the Assembl e Natio nale even celebrated my birthday with a glass of wine new friends and a backdrop of the twinkling Eiffel Tower But the most interest ing new experience I ve had so far is becoming an unofficial walking customer service rep for my home state Let me explain Most of the French adults have met seem to be quite curious about Louisiana They ve heard just enough about the state to whet their inquisitive appetites and they are hungry for more While didn t grow up speaking Louisiana French my accent today does give away the fact that I m not Parisian in true Cajun fashion I roll my r s So as soon as respond to the inevitable questio Where are you from a Q amp A session always follows Those who have never been to my state usually begin a lengthy interrogation They want to know about everyday life there and how many residents speak French tod

21. e de M canique et A rotechnique ENSMA Ces tudiants suivent des cours de Survival French en conjonction avec leurs cours d ing nierie Ils crivent des rapports propos des visites techniques et culturelles et ils passent des examens hebdomadaires C est vraiment un programme charg mais aussi une exp rience extraordinaire IIS ont gagn cette exp rience rapidement Je me rappelle du jour de notre visite Eurocopter en Marignane Le groupe tait Marseille pour rencontrer la vie marine et une culture tr s diff rente de celle de Toulouse Un tudiant voulant acheter des sou venirs avant de quitter la ville a d cid de louer un v lo 7h du matin pour aller en ville sans rien dire a personne A 9h quand on devait partir pour Marignane il m a appel e il n avait pas pu garer le v lo parce que les stations taient toutes compl tes ll est arriv l h tel avec le v lo D un c t c tait une situation tr s emb tante on tait d j en retard pour la vi site Mais c tait aussi marrant on ne savait pas quoi faire sauf prendre le v lo avec nous Mais il l avait lou avec la carte bancaire d un autre tudiant Apr s une qua rantaine de minutes un travailleur de la compagnie des v los est arriv et on lui a laiss le v lo On est mont dans le bus rapidement pour rentrer sur l autoroute au m me moment d un embouteillage On tait tr s en retard pour la visite Eurocopter
