12. Preparing AIBO This section describes how to prepare AIBO for control by the AIBO Speed Boarder AIBO ware In this section the ERS 220 is used as an example 1 Grasp AIBO securely by the body turn it upside down and then open the cover e Pick up AIBO by the body not by its extremities Be careful not to drop AIBO while lifting it Do not touch the charging terminal on the underside of AIBO directly with your hand Doing so may soil the terminal and cause poor contact 2 Take out the AIBO Speed Border Memory Stick from its case Slide the cover in the direction of the 4 mark 10 Label side of the arrow with the label side up Hold the Memory Stick with the mark downward and the label facing the battery insertion slot Push it in firmly until it clicks Be careful not to insert the Memory Stick in the wrong direction Doing so may damage the Memory Stick or Battery insertion slot AIBO e Do not set the safety switch of the Memory Stick to LOCK position If you do so AIBO will not be able to memorize the path that it travels 3 Insert the Memory Stick in the direction 4 Insert the battery pack in the direction of the arrow until it clicks into place and then replace the cover Push here Attach the cover in the 4 direction shown 11 5 Charge battery pack For details on how to charge the battery pack refer to

15. the operating instructions supplied with your AIBO 6 Referring to the separate AIBO Speed Board operating instructions attach AIBO onto the Speed Board and then secure it with the belt There are several precautions on attaching the adapter to the Speed Board and securing AIBO to the board Refer to the AIBO Speed Board operating instructions Match the projecting part on the Speed Board with the concave part AIBO s stomach area and then grasp AIBO the back and move it back and forth to make sure AIBO is securely attached and does not move 7 Press the pause button AIBO s chest AIBO s chest light lights green and AIBO starts to move by itself 12 AIBO has now become a speed boarder Guiding AIBO s movements You can guide your AIBO in the following ways By your voice this page Using the pink ball page 15 If AIBO stops moving If AIBO has fallen down or has been picked up from the floor or an object is caught in one of AIBO s joints while it is on the Speed Board the safety mechanism activates and AIBO s joints become loose If this occurs set the Speed Board upright with the wheels facing downward then stretch down AIBO s four legs and then do the following to place AIBO back in active mode ERS 210 series Keep pressing the head sensor for three seconds or more ERS 220 series gt Keep pressing the head sensor forward or backwards for three seconds or more Gui

AIBO the Speed Board While under control of AIBO Speed Boarder AIBO ware AIBO is always waiting for your command When you don t guide AIBO with your voice or the pink ball AIBO does not memorize or recall the path With the AIBO Speed Boarder AIBO 15 incapable of move in autonomous mode learn on its own or develop itself Do not use the Speed Board outdoors especially on an incline as this may damage AIBO and the Speed Board or result an accident It is recommended that you play with AIBO and the Speed Board on the hard surface such as wooden floor Placing AIBO and the Speed Board on a carpet may result in slow movement While AIBO 15 moving on the Speed Board do not change the direction by forcibly turning the handle This may stop the board s movement or damage the board Do not apply a strong physical force on AIBO or the Speed Board This may stop the board s movement or damage the board e While playing with AIBO on the Speed Board be sure that AIBO is within your sight When you leave AIBO be sure to place it in pause mode Index to parts and controls ERS 210 series ERS 220 series 3 Mode indicator Stereo microphone Mode indicator Head sensor 4 Tail sensors 3 Stereo microphone Chest light 4 Chest light 6 Pause button Pause button Face sensor 6 Chin sensor Color camera Color camera 9 Face side lights Eye lights Retractable head light

25. eep pressing the head sensor for three seconds or more e ERS 220 series Keep pressing the head sensor forward or backwards for three seconds or more Note however that the path up to the point where AIBO stopped memorizing remains in AIBO s memory The memorized path is replaced with a new one when AIBO memorizes another path 16 Memorizing the path Note When you touch AIBO on the chin sensor or the face sensor be sure to reach for the sensor from the side of AIBO If you reach straight for AIBO s sensor it may take your hand for an obstacle and move back 1 ERS 210 series Press chin sensor three seconds more ERS 220 series Press the face sensor for three seconds or more AIBO s eye lights all of face side lights light 2 ERS 210 series Press the chin sensor ERS 220 series Press the face sensor AIBO s mode indicator lights up and it s ready to memorize the path 3 Do the procedure described in Guiding AIBO s movements page 13 to 15 to make AIBO move AIBO memorizes the path as it moves To cancel memorizing the path ERS 210 series Keep pressing the head sensor for three seconds or more ERS 220 series Keep pressing the head sensor forward or backwards for three seconds or more When AIBO s memory reaches its full capacity or when you press the chin sensor ERS 210 series or face sensor ERS 220 series for more than three seconds it stops
26. following The supplied Memory Stick contains the AIBO Speed Boarder AIBO ware Using it also to save data from personal computers or camcorders or for anything other than AIBO may cause damage to AIBO Do not touch terminal with your hand or metal objects When using the Memory Stick in a place subject to static electricity or electric noise the saved data may be erased or broken Do not stick anything other than a dedicated Memory Stick sticker in the area indicated by B A sticker has already been attached to the AIBO ware Memory Stick at the factory Do not bend drop or apply a strong physical shock to the Memory Stick Do not disassemble or modify the Memory Stick When removing the Memory Stick from AIBO press the pause button to make it pause and check that the battery pack lock indicator is white and then remove it Do not let the Memory Stick get wet Do not use or store the Memory Stick in places subject to Excessively high temperatures such as a car parked in the sun Direct sunlight High humidity or corrosive gas 22 When carrying storing Memory Stick keep 1 in supplied case AIBO Speed Boarder 15 designed exclusively for use with AIBO ERS 210 series and 220 series It cannot be used with AIBO ERS 310 series and 31L AIBO Speed Boarder uses the AIBO programming Memory Stick Sony assumes no responsibilit
27. loud sound When an obstacle such as a wall is near AIBO your voice may be reflected and AIBO may move in the opposite direction Guiding AIBO by the pink ball a e pink ball Bring the pink ball in front of AIBO s over the nose color camera and then move it P slowly AIBO starts to chase the pink K 1 about 3 feet and 3 inches ball If AIBO loses sight of the pink ball it looks around for the ball for a while If AIBO still cannot find the ball it stops chasing the pink ball If AIBO moves Without you showing it the pink ball AIBO may have mistaken a red or pink object for the pink ball and has begun chasing it 15 Memorizing and recalling path You can make AIBO memorize a path on which it travelled and make it recall the path at a later time Once AIBO memorizes a path it can be recalled until you make AIBO memorize another path e AIBO can memorizes only its movement It cannot memorize other things such as kicks or moving speed e AIBO can memorize only one path When any of the following conditions exists AIBO will stop memorizing or recalling a path There is an obstacle in AIBO s path AIBO cannot detect obstacles while it is following the pink ball e AIBO has been picked up from the floor AIBO has fallen down An object has been caught in one of AIBO s joints If one of the above happens do the following to place AIBO back in active mode ERS 210 series K
