134. 12 2 2012 Insights gained from a questionnaire survey and open seminar on Narratives from individuals with dementia and their family caregivers Hisami AOYAGI Yoriko AOKI Mariko NIIKURA Tomiko TAKEUCHI Department of Gerontological Nursing Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Research University of Toyama Abstract As a way to conduct an interim report regarding research activities related to the construction of the Health Illness and Care giving Experiences website which aims to support individuals with dementia and their families The post seminar survey results revealed reasons for participant attendance at the seminar content that left an impression on them what they hope will be clarified by this study and future challenges Of the 157 participants 82 responded to the questionnaire which showed that I developed an interest when I realized that this 1s not just someone else s problem was the most popular reason for participation at 36 4 In addition 79 5 of participants responded that the personal stories and videos such as narratives of individuals with dementia and personal experiences and examples from family caregivers left the biggest impression on them Given the above we surmise that listening first hand to individuals and their families with experience with dementia greatly helped deepen participant understanding of dementia and its effec
