PL J Co PL LiuTaijie Lee Seongi1 NWIP scope purpose and justification Scope Of proposed proJect This international standard prov1des gu1delines for designing tact1ile symbols and letters used 1n consumer products and 1n public spaces for 1ncreas1ng easy read and recogn1t1on of tactile information to those who have disabilities in gett1ng v1sual 1nformation by taking 1nto account human ability of tactile perception 1ncluding the effect of aging as well as the long term exper1ence ln using tactile 1nformation of the people with visual disability This standard applies temporally static tactile symbols and letters that are read by fingers but does not apply to tactile information temporally changing such as v1bration nor Braille which is designed for spec1al use Purpose and justification Tactile information is being widely used in our daily life e g packaging home appliances elevator etc to provide useful information mainly to but not only to persons with visual disability Despite the increas1ng need for tactile 1nfTormation no design gu1delines have been supplied to the designers and users of the tactile information which may cause 1nappropr1ate use of tactile information or miss matching with the human ability of tactile percep

PL Co PL Ran Linghua Lee Inseok 100 NWIP scope purpose and justification Scope Of proposed proJect This standard specifies a method for estimating minimum legible font size of alphanumer1ic letters used in visual signs products labels documents and displays at the condition in which age of the observer viewing distance and lum1nance level are varied The method consists of a simple formula as a function of those three var1ables on the bases of estimating human visual acuity that corresponds to the condition The font size for some other national languages are g1ven ln annex as 1nformat1Ve Purpose and justification The purpose of this standard is to prov1de a method for estimating m1n1mum legible font size as a fundamental scale for legibility of letters used in visual signs products labels documents and displays so that they are made access1ble to people at any age 1ncluding older people While font size 1s a basic concern of access1b111ty in visual signs products labels etc that contain letters of various size there has been no consistent method for estimating legible font size espec1ally for older people due to complex change of human visual acu1ty with view1ng conditions such as age of the observer v1ew1ng distance and luminance
