1. Text Messages Short Message Service SMS allows you to send and receive short text messages to and from other GSM mobile phones In addition your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service EMS which enables you to make messages including simple pictures melodies and animation To use this feature you must subscribe to the message service of your service provider When the Message icon 3 appears you have received new text messages If the memory is full an error message displays and you cannot receive any new messages Use the Delete option in each message box to delete the obsolete ones Inbox Menu 1 1 This message box is used to store the messages that you have received When you enter this menu the list of messages in the box displays with the senders phone numbers or names if available in your Phonebook 1 Select a message from the list and press the View soft key to read the message contents 2 To scroll through the contents press the Up or Down key 3 To scroll to the previous or next message press the as or key While reading a message you can choose the following options by pressing the Options soft key A Text Messages Delete allows you to delete the message Send allows you to resend the message For further details about how to send a message see page 72 Reply allows you to reply to the sender by sending a text message Call Back allows you to call the sender b

A Entering Text Example The 1 key is used twice to display two punctuation marks L E T S E A T Changing the Case To shift the case of the next letter s that you type press the key The Capital Lock mode is indicated by D and the Small Caps mode is indicated by EI Scrolling e To move the cursor to the left or right within the text press the Left or Right key e To scroll through alternative world choices for the keys you have entered press the 0 Up or Down key Clearing Letters and Words Press the C key one or more times to clear letters to the left Press and hold the key to clear the display Using the English Mode When typing in the english mode press the key labelled with the required letter Once for the first letter Twice for the second letter And so on Entering Text Example To display the letter C quickly press the 2 key three times To display the letter K press the 5 key twice This method is called Multi tap typing Note The cursor moves to the right when you press a different key When entering the same letter twice or a different letter on the same key just press the Right key or wait a few seconds for the cursor to move to the right automatically and then enter the next letter Refer to the table below for more information about the characters available List of the characters available Key Characters in the Order Displayed

Using the Pinyin Mode Pinyin is a system to mark Chinese pronunciation in Latin alphabets With th can enter Chinese chara e pinyin input method you cters by entering the pinyin string from the phone keypad and the phone automatically presents the matching alternatives This mode allows you to enter Pinyin characters with only one key press per letter Typing Characters in the Pinyin Mode 1 Press keys corresponding to the phonetic spelling referring to the Roman letters printed on the keys Notice that the choices in the Character Selection Map change Example Typing JJ in the pinyin mode Text Area Key Stroke Area press the 5 and 4 keys to Tull m Poer Name li H EEJ enter li Character Selection Map 2 If you cannot find the character you want from the display press th e Up or Down key to scroll through choices in the Character Selection map When the character you are typing appears in the Character Selection Map you may select it A Entering Text without completing the Pinyin spelling or entering the tone for the character 3 To select a character press the 1 key to activate the Character Selection Map A number 7 to is added to the beginning of a corresponding character With the Character Selection Map being activated a normal press on the 7 to key selects the corresponding character T

10. in the Character Selection Map press the Up or Down key Note If you are uncertain of the order of one or more strokes press the 6 key in place of each questionable stroke Continue entering strokes until the character is displayed in the Character Selection Map or until you have finished the character 3 When the character you are typing appears in the Character Selection Map you may select it without finishing the stroke sequence for the character Characters displayed in the Character Selection Map correspond to the 7 to keys on the keypad To select a character from the Character Selection Map and add it to your message press the corresponding key 7 to Entering Text Inserting a Space To insert a space between words press the key Scrolling To move the cursor left or right through your text message press the Left or Right key Clearing Strokes and Characters Press the C key one or more times to remove strokes to the left Once the Stroke Area is empty pressing the C key removes characters from the Text Area Rapid Character Entry Rapid character entry is easy in any mode using the Character Selection Map As you enter characters your phone predicts the next character you might want and presents choices in the Character Selection Map area When a desired character appears you may select it as described in Step 3 on page 44 In most cases you will see the desired character in the Character

12. restrict your calls Call barring can be set up in the following ways All Outgoing calls cannot be made International international calls cannot be made International Except to Home when abroad calls can be made only to numbers within the current country and to your home country which is the country where your home network provider is located All Incoming calls cannot be received Incoming While Abroad calls cannot be received when you are using your phone outside of your home service area Cancel All all call barring settings are deactivated calls can be made and received normally You can specify individual barring options for each of the following call types e Voice calls only e Data calls only To set your call barring options 1 Select the type of call barring by pressing the Up or Down key and then press the Select soft key 2 Select the type of calls to be barred by pressing the Up or Down key and then press the Select soft key A Network Services Press the Activate soft key to confirm your settings Enter your call barring password supplied by your service provider The phone sends your settings to the network and the network s acknowledgement displays To deactivate specific call barring settings tT 2 Select the call barring option to be deactivated Select the type of call to which this option applies Press the Deactivate soft key Enter your call barring
