Roehampton University 2 London Troubleshooting Guidelines My computer tries to Dial up to the Internet e This means that Internet Explorer IE has not been configured to use your local area network LAN connection and is set up to use a modem telephone e Open IE and close dialog box that appears for dial up connection e Go to Tools gt Internet Options gt Connections Select the box which states Never dial up a connection Click on OK HOR Guide 3 The Local Area Connection icon does not appear in Network Connections e This means you do not have a Network Card installed e The drivers for the Network Card are not installed or need reinstalling e The Internal Network Card has been disabled in BIOS Reboot the computer and enter BIOS by pressing the required key and enable the onboard Network Card appear to have lost my network connection e Check the network cable release the connector from the socket in the wall and from the network card at the back of your computer and then put it back again ensuring that the connection is secure e If you notice that the cable is damaged return to the IT Helpdesk e lf the data socket on the wall appears damaged inform the IT Helpdesk e Release Renew your IP address o Go to Start gt Run In the box type cmd and press Enter o Type ipconfig release and press enter o Type ipconfig renew o Type ipconfig all which lists the IP address alloca
