For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug Once you are happy with the firing at TDC simply turn off the ignition and the Base Offset Base Timing position will be permanently stored in the NODIZ Pro THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TPS CALIBRATION The NODIZ Pro offers the ability to use a Throttle Position Sensor or TPS as a means of determining load This is more common for use on Individual Throttle Body Twin Carbs or Motorbike Carbs fuelled engines as reading a MAP sensor value from these types of engines requires extra piping and take offs needing to be fitted ENTERING TPS CALIBRATION MODE To enter Throttle Position Sensor calibration mode with the ignition switched off hold down BUTTON B the innermost button and turn the ignition on whilst keeping this button depressed The NODIZ will flash the BLUE and GREEN LEDs together to show to that TPS calibration has been entered You are are now in TPS calibration mode The engine will not run in this mode CALIBRATING THE TPS Whilst in TPS Calibration Mode simply sweep the throttle from open to closed several times You will notice that the LEDs flash at different rates to indicate throttle position You can now check that the throttle wiring and TPS sensors are working correctly by slowly opening and closing the throttle and noticing that the LEDs flash faster with higher throttle openings and more
4. as this will ensure longevity Most users generally mount the unit using sticky back Velcro pads to allow for easy removal an added immobilisation feature when leaving the car unattended at shows though a hard mounting bracketing kit can be supplied if required The case itself does not need to be earthed and so can be mounted to painted non metallic surfaces TRIGGER WHEEL AND CRANK SENSOR INSTALLATION The trigger wheel should be mounted to the crank shaft front pulley The missing tooth should pass the sensor when the engine is at 90 BTDC It doesn t need to be an exact 90 as you will adjust the offset when calibrating the NODIZ But aim for 1 10 of accuracy here Note that many engines such as the Ford Zetec or Vauxhall C20XE Redtop already have a suitable crank sensor and pulley arrangement built in so you can utilise that if needed If not here is an example of a crank sensor and trigger wheel fitted to a Ford Pinto engine This kit is available from us as well are universal trigger wheels and crank sensors NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug COIL PACK INSTALLATION The coil pack to be used is a standard OEM Ford Four Cylinder Coil pack as fitted to most Fords from 1994 Fiesta Escort models though to current Ford Focuses Mondeo models If you are unsure of the type please see our website www NODIZ co uk The p
5. a variety of information In normal running use they signify the firing of Coil A and B hence they will alternately flash at a speed that relates to the engine speed They also indicate entry into different setup modes and these are detailed in the relevant section BUTTONS The two push buttons on the NODIZ Pro are used to set different modes adjust base offset and also to factory reset the unit Holding down the button s shown during turning the power on results in the actions shown in the table below being taken BUTTON A BUTTON B RESULT Outermost Innermost HELD Offset Angle Calibration Mode Fixed Ignition firing at O TDC OFF HELD Throttle Position Sensor Calibration Mode HELD HELD Not Used The buttons have different functions in different modes and the relevant sections in this manual detail their functions in those modes 4 NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk ammi MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug MAIN LOOM CONNECTIONS The following wiring details are for the WHITE 20 WAY connector version of the NODIZ Pro If you have a BLACK 14 Pin Connector then please visit the website for version 1 4 of the user manual as you have an older version of the NODIZ Pro and the wiring is different The NODIZ Pro features an automotive standard connector for various connections to be made to the engine and other systems The main connector is a 20
6. and the BLUE LED will be OFF Release Button A The GREEN LED will flash four times You are now in Base Timing Offset Setup Mode CHECKING ADJUSTING BASE TIMING First you must establish the TDC position of your engine You can either use the factory timing marks although not always accurate or manually turn the engine to TDC and mark the bottom pulley and a fixed reference point on the block such that it can be seen with a timing light Next using a timing light reading from cylinder one s HT lead verify the position of the firing point in relation to the engines TDC mark by cranking the engine If you see no flashes from the timing gun refer to the trouble shooting section Next and it is best to do this whilst cranking the engine press Button A OQUTTERMOST to INCREASE the Base Offset Angle or Button B INNERMOST to DECREASE it You will notice that the mark you made on the bottom pulley will move closer or further away from the TDC mark as the system changes its base offset angle The objective is to get the timing light to flash showing that the engine is firing when your TDC marks align i e firing at ZERO degrees or TDC You will only be able to adjust the offset by 20 degrees either way hence why it is important to ensure that your fitment and relationship of the trigger wheel and sensor are as close as possible such that the missing gap passes the sensor when the engine is turned to 90 BTDC 13 NODIZ Pro

8. perfect launching RPM or you can employ no lift shifting where by you can keep the throttle wide open through gear changes and the engine will automatically hold back when depressing the clutch The following connections will need to be made NODIZ Pro Wiring Launch Control Wiring Clutch Push WWW NODIZ CO UK Switch rs SE ED aN folelo gt Meie se VER 1 0 WIRING SIDE Note that by default the Launch RPM is set to 3000 You can change this from within the tuning suite 11 NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug INTERNAL 21PSI MAP SENSOR On NODIZ Pro units with the MAP sensor upgrade a 4mm bulkhead fitting is provided on the unit to facilitate connection of a 4mm silicone hose which should then be connected to the intake manifold to read to the manifold pressure This must be connected to the manifold between the throttle and intake face of the engine usually the same location as the brake servo take off can be used You will able to read up to 21psi of boost with the internal MAP sensor EXTERNAL 3BAR OEM MAP SENSOR SUPPORT The NODIZ Pro also allows the use of any 5v MAP Sensor Default settings have been set for you if you use a Magneti Marreli type 3 BAR Map Sensor Part Magneti 215810001101 amp APS 05 01 If you are using a different sensor then an accurate MAP reading will not be given however if you ar

10. 1 Check power minimum of 9 Volts and ground connections to the NODIZ Pro unit 2 If power is present and the RED LED still does not light please contact us NO SPARK AT THE PLUGS BLUE OR GREEN LED DOES NOT FLASH WHILST CRANKING These LEDs indicate the correct position in the crank signal for the Coils to fire and as such they will flash alternately with the engine rotating If they do not flash at all when cranking then either the trigger setting is incorrect or the crank sensor signal is not making it to the NODIZ Pro They will flash even with the coils unplugged Check that the RED LED lights and remains lit whilst cranking Unplug the coil packs Check that you have set the NODIZ Pro to either 36 1 or 60 2 crank sensor as per the relevant section in the user manual If you are unable to gain communications with the NODIZ Pro then you may have another issue See above Check that the crank sensor outputs an AC voltage when cranking using a multi meter Check that this AC voltage is at the NODIZ Pro Plug pins Check that you are using shielded cable for the crank sensor wiring oS E If all of the above is correct and you still fail to have flashing LEDs please contact us BLUE amp GREEN LEDS FLASH ALTERNATIVELY BUT STILL NO SPARK DANGEROUS AREA CAUTION WHEN WORKING WITH HIGH TENSTION COIL PACKS LEADS AND PLUGS If the BLUE GREEN LEDS flash alternatively when cranking then in essence the coil drivers are being to

TUP CALIBRATING to setup base timing in effect twisting the distributor as well as calibrate the throttle position sensor if used The second method uses the PC Laptop to allow full calibration of the ignition map as well as a host of other features We suggest that the first method is used to get the engine running and then optimisation can be carried out afterwards using a PC Laptop BASE TIMING IGNITION OFFSET ANGLE SETUP The NODIZ Pro enables you to accurately set the 0 point by offering a mode called fixed firing In this mode the system will always fire its ignition coil on channel A at what it believes to be 0 or TDC Use this mode to check the position of Crank Sensor trigger disc missing tooth angle and correct coil wiring You will also be able to adjust the OFFSET ANGLE using the buttons from within this mode to ensure that for example a commanded advance of 15 BTDC really is 15 BTDC and not out by any amount IT IS RECOMENDED YOU DISCONNECT THE ENGINES FUEL SUPPLY OR INJECTORS TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FIRING DURING THIS INTITIAL SETUP PHASE CARBURETTERS WILL USUALLY CONTAIN A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL IN FLOAT CHAMBERS SO THE ENGINE MAY POP ON REMAINING FUEL BUT THIS IS NORMAL ENTERING BASE TIMING SETUP MODE To enter this mode with the NODIZ Pro all wired and the ignition switched off HOLD DOWN Button A Outermost Next turn on the ignition The RED Power LED will illuminate and the GREEN LED

13. atures a 12V 50 duty tachometer output that can be used to drive modern or aftermarket tachometers For traditional flyback based 12v tachometers a diode pack will be needed to drive the tachometer which is available from our website COOLANT AND INTAKE TEMPERATURE SENSORS The NODIZ Pro features the ability to report as well as trim the advance dependant on the value of the coolant temperature and intake temperature You can trim the advance by a maximum of 10 degrees When cranking no trims will be applied As standard all of the values will be set to zero as this only needs setting up for help cranking when cold or to retard the ignition if the intake air gets incredibly warm to help reduce knock The sensors supported are standard GM Bosch types as fitted to almost all vehicles equipped with a Bosch ECU such as Vauxhalls VWs Audi Peugeot Citroen etc Connections for the sensors are shown below NODIZ Pro Wiring Coolant amp IAT Sensors WWW NODIZ CO UK EARTH DRDEOGEERG IOC 6 as N VER 1 0 WIRING SIDE 10 NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug LAUNCH CONTROL The NODIZ Pro features user programmable launch control It effectively allows you to hold the engines RPM lower similar to a hard cut on pressing a button which in most cases would be a clutch switch This in effect ensures
14. chassis e Ensure that the main power wire to the NODIZ Pro does not switch off during cranking as can be the case on some classic cars It must remain live around 8 14v when both cranking AND running e Always solder and heat shrink wiring where possible Bullet connectors and Scotch Locks are not the best practices to ensure longevity and are often sources of reliability issues NODIZ PRO WIRING FOUR CYLINDER 2D MODE The following diagram illustrates the most simple of NODIZ Pro installations In this mode there is no load compensation so the unit works in a 2D fashion using engine speed alone much like a distributor to map the advance curve The easy to use nature of the NODIZ pro means that this setup requires just five connections to be made NODIZ Pro Wiring 2D Mode Ford 3 Wire Coil Pack WWW NODIZ CO UK EARTH 12V Ignition Switch 15A Fused BRILL LEEFER Crank Sensor NOEEO P VER 1 0 WIRING SIDE WIRING OF THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TPS 3D MODE gd NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk E MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug The throttle position sensor TPS is used to tell the NODIZ Pro the current throttle position It should be of a three wire variety as in most OEM cases and also if supplied by us First we must determine what the connections are on your TPS As a guide generally the middle connection
15. d but also on engine load which can be derived from either its optional in built Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor MAP or using a potentiometer type Throttle Position Sensor TPS The NODIZ Pro is incredibly simple to install and will always arrive pre loaded with a suitable base map of your choice With only seven connections to make you can be up and running in a matter of minutes and if you opted for a pre loomed system this can be even quicker To use the NODIZ Pro you will need at a minimum the following components All can be obtained from our website www NODIZ co uk or sourced locally e Trigger Wheel In the case of modern engines this will probably already either be cast into the flywheel or fitted to the front pulley Note that direct support for many OEM trigger wheels is being added Currently 36 1 and 60 2 are fully supported see the website for others e Crank Sensor A standard 2 Wire VR type crank sensor for reading the Trigger Wheel e Coil Pack Standard Wasted Spark dumb coil pack Ford style ones work best and universal ones are available from us If you are using a TPS based NODIZ Pro then you will also need a 3 wire TPS sensor fitted to your throttle linkage carburettor s In addition to the above most direct and simple installation the NODIZ Pro also features the following some features require the use of the NODIZ Pro Power Suite Windows software to set them up or we can c

19. ilable on our website If you notice a bug report it on the user forums on the website and it will quickly be fixed INSTALLING THE NODIZ PRO TUNING SUITE After downloading the NODIZ Pro Tuning Suite from the website simply extract the software to a folder of choice and double click the setup icon After a brief delay the software will be installed and a shortcut will be placed in your start menu You can launch the NODIZ EZ Tune Suite from the start menu at any time CONNECTING TO THE NODIZ PRO UNIT After you have successfully paired the Bluetooth system as per the instructions above you are ready to connect to the NODIZ Unit to begin setup and tuning Switch on the ignition as to power the NODIZ Pro and then start the tuning suite 2 From the Communications menu select the correct comms port from the Port menu You should be selecting the port we found earlier when pairing the Bluetooth module 3 Now press Connect If all goes well after a short delay the display should resemble the below r NJ NODIZ Pro EZ Tune V0 81 Professional Edition al ise File About Map 2D View Map 3D View Limiters Load Mode Outputs TPS 800 1200 1600 2000 2500 3000 3500 4000 4500 5000 5500 6000 6500 7000 7500 3000 Read Map Bum Msp www NODIZ co uk Live Mode RX TX If the gauges appear but the map does not press READ MAP t
20. in out of a typical coil pack is shown below Ford Coil Pack wiring example hese 2 HT outputs from the coil pack got to Cylinders 3 and 2 Spark outputB Firing order 1 3 4 2 hese 2 HT outputs from the coil pack got to Cylinders 1 and 4 Spark Output A Firing order 1 3 4 2 One of our initial beta testers found an ingenious place to mount his coil pack on his Ford X Flow engine 7 NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug GENERAL WIRING Although the NODIZ Pro has been designed using the very latest noise immune practices and components it is still important to follow these basic commonly accepted wiring principles when wiring routing the wiring loom e Keep the NODIZ Pro unit and crank sensor wiring as far from the HT system as sensibly possible HT leads Coil Pack and Plugs Around 500mm rarely as much is needed in practice spacing is more than adequate e Ensure no wires run where chafing or heat are likely to damage them If passing through a bulkhead be sure to use grommets where required e Ensure no wires are under stress or undue tension e Try not to run the crank sensor wiring in the same conduit as the coil output wires alternator wiring or any other sources of electrical noise e Always use suitable shielded cable for crank sensor wiring e Ensure any ground earth wires are of a strong connection to the

22. ld to fire If you have no spark do the following 1 Check continuity between the COIL A B Signals and if applicable the other COIL outputs on the NODIZ PRO and the coil packs Confirm the Coil packs receive a strong constant 12V to their power pin even when cranking 3 Check plugs are not wet and that HT leads are in good condition 4 If all ofthe above is correct and you still have no spark please contact us 21 NODIZ Pro For further support please visit us online at www NODIZ co uk MOTORSPORT ELECTRONICS REV 2 NODIZ Pro White Plug ONLY BLUE LED FLASHES WHEN CRANKING This is indicative of a poor 12 volt power or ground supply Check and correct these where possible MISFIRES POOR RUNNING Always check you have used shielded cable for the crank sensor as this is the number one cause of misfires You can confirm that you have a strong crank signal by checking the Diagnostics tab from the EZ Tune software If the SYNC LOSS keeps counting up whenever you encounter a misfire then this is showing missed synchronisations of the trigger wheel Also be sure there are no vibrations and that the trigger wheel is running true with a gap of roughly a sheet of paper between the teeth and the sensor If you have no indications of SYNC LOSS i e the indictor remains static throughout running of the engine and the misfire then chances are you could have a failing coil pack bad HT Leads or a cracked or failin
