Dn write fa ures to logfile Show the About tab al startup Activate PanicBackup Remove all Matifickaions It consists of three sections Backup Restore and Misc preferences Within the Backup Preferences you can decide on what is done if the memory card is the primary target memory but not available we Use internal memory if memory card is If you check the target memory but not available MobileBackup will save the backup onto the internal memory instead of the memory card If you un check this option there will be no backup taking place In this case you will find a message in the logfile telling Backup could not take place as the memory card is missing 21 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 7 Within the Backup Preferences you can also activate a quick backup procedure by checking Backup modified files and databases only This way only modified items will actually be backuped and all unchanged items will be skipped The logfile will tell you which items had been saved and which skipped Within the Restore Preferences you can activate warnings which will occur during the restore process before an object will be overwritten If you check Sek before overwriting existing files database there will be a dialog during the restore process asking if an existing file or database on your machine shall be overwritten by the one from the backup You can overwrite the file or database by pressing YES or2. Afterwards MobileBackup is installed completely and ready to use 3 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 Deinstallation The deinstallation of MobileBackupCE is managed by the build in Remove Programs application of WindowsCE Choose Settings Control Panels from the Start menu and double tap the Remove Program icon Choose MobileBackupCE form the programs list and press the remove button Afterwards MobileBackup and all its program files including the online help are removed However the existing backups aren t touched If you want to delete all existing backups you will have to remove the MobileBackup backups folder in the root of each memory store you used internal memory and any memory card Caution Before you remove MobileBackup make sure you use the button Remove all notifications under Preferences Otherwise you will get annoying notification errors by WindowsCE each time your restart your device This is because WindowsCE does not delete notification events of removed programs correctly 7 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 3 Registration You need to unlock your version of MobileBackup first by registering it Since we distribute all our software products through the Internet we need to protect them this way We ve made every effort to conceive the registration process as user friendly as possible The outcome of these efforts are found in our online registration system which you can access at

12. leaving it untouched pressing NO If you check Ask before overwriting the registry there will be a dialog during the restore process asking if the existing registry shall be overwritten by the one from the backup You can can overwrite the registry by pressing YES or leaving it untouched pressing NO Hint Be sure that the file or database you intend to overwrite isn t modified since the last backup Otherwise you will loose all changes since the last backup Within the Misc Preferences you will find various other options If you want to keep the logfile as small as possible check Only write failures to protocol hence only failure messages will be logged from there on This will reduce the amount of memory space need for logging dramatically If you do not wish to see the information screen each time you start up MobileBackup then un check Show the About tab at startup selecting the backup screen as the default startup screen from there on The panic backup is a unique feature that might help you in an emergency situation see Panic Backup You should always keep the checkbox I Activate Panic Backup with memory card activated as otherwise this data safety procedure will not be available in the event of an emergency Anyway we did include an on off switch in order to prevent incompatibilities with other programs If you notice that the panic backup is not compatible with your device or any one of the other insta

14. o the section of terms in licensing at the end of this manual with regard to the just mentioned incidence You will automatically agree to these terms as soon as you make use of the application MobileBackup 5 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 3 Installation There are two different ways to install MobileBackupCE on your WinCE device depending if you install it through your desktop computer or if you directly download the CAB file on your WinCE device A Installation through your desktop PC If you want to install MobileBackup through your desktop computer please proceed with the following steps 1 Download the Setup exe file from our download area or use the similar exe file contained on the floppy disk version 2 First you have to establish a connection between the WinCE device and your desktop computer by using the WindowsCE Services 2 x or the new 3 0 version called ActiveSync 3 Double tap the setup exe and follow the instruction MobileBackup will now be installed through WindowsCE Services ActiveSync on your WindowsCE device Afterwards MobileBackup is installed completely and is ready to use B Installation directly on the WinCE device If you want to directly download MobileBackup onto your WindowsCE device you will have to use the CAB file instead of the setup exe file Follow these steps 1 Download the CAB file onto your WindowsCE device 2 Double tap the file 3 Follow the instructions of the Installer
15. t to save the data Automatic Backup To start a backup automatically you have to enter the options of a certain backupset as described in section Backupset Within the options dialog you can define an alarm time at which MobileBackup automatically starts a backup For more details see section Backupsets 3 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 14 Panic backup MobileBackup offers to initiate a backup through a special process in case you re unable to start a backup in the usual way This is mainly needed in the event your display being destroyed or not responding visually but the device itself seemingly working properly It wouldn t be possible then to use the device via pen or keyboard input any longer To backup the complete internal data_in such an event follow this steps 1 Find a memory card which has enough free memory to receive the internal data If you already installed a memory card into your device remove this first 2 Insert this card and wait 10 seconds 3 Remove the card and insert it back again immediately After a few seconds you will either hear a single beep sound followed by click sounds which indicates that the backup can take place or you will here a triple beep sound which indicates that the backup can not take place most likely there is not enough free memory on the card please try another one During the backup process you will hear many click sounds which indicate the backup
16. to these options press the options button H The backupset options dialog will appear as shown below Backupset Options Where to save the backup Automatic backup alarm O Internal Memory fy Enable alarm 8 Memory Card Alarm frequenze d hat kind of Backup ical E Y Incremental backup Aan A Clear backup hs go Backupset options dialog This is where you can determine where the backup which is compiled out of the backupset data you ve entered beforehand is to be stored You should always backup to a memory card as an internal backup would be useless if the gadget is stolen or broken There are two different backup types supported by MobileBackup The incremental backup which adds new data to an existing backup and the clear backup which will erase the old backup items first before saving the new ones You should always use the incremental backup type as you can access old data in the future even though it may have already been deleted on your machine Disadvantage of this being that the incremental backup uses more memory than the clear backup 3 MobileBackup for WindowsCE 1 02 12 Finally there is the automatic backup alarm options This alarm allows to automatically create a backup using the currently selected backupset The backup will contain the selected files databases and the registry which are included in the backupset To enable the alarm check off t
