1. fig 9 is located in the lower front part of the washer Its purpose is to collect lint and objects safety pins coins etc inadvertently left in the articles to be washed The filter should be cleaned regularly as follows At the end of a wash programme place the free end of the drain hose at floor level in a basin to collect any water left in the hose Before taking the filter out place a small receptacle below the housing in order to collect any water that may come out Unscrew the filter knob counterclockwise and pull the filter out fig 9 Clean filter and return ensuring that the filter knob is screwed tight 13 HINTS FOR CARE OF WASHING POWDER DISPENSER We recommend that the washing powder dispenser is checked regularly to ensure that it is clean and dry Do wipe the dispenser after each wash Should the dispenser require special cleaning the drawer can be completely removed and the interior cleared of any deposit The drawer can be removed from the front of the appliance by giving a sharp pull outwards A sharp tap with the palm of the hand may be necessary when replacing the drawer HELPFUL TIPS FOR WASHING Some practical advice is given in order to obtain the best washing results 14 use a low suds washing powder such as Persil Automatic made for loading washing machines an excessive formation of suds can cause regular operation the quantity of washing powder depends on the am2. The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS qa CHECK arry out the following check before using the machine is the plug in the socket is the power on is the water inlet hose connected to the tap and the tap turned on has the drain hose been placed on the edge of a sink or in a drain is the door properly closed STARTING AND STOPPING To start the machine select the programme required by turning the timer control knob to the required number and pull out the contro knob It should be noted that this knob freewheels in the position therefore the programme selection cannot be changed without switching the machine off Once the machine is started it will automatically carry out all operations up to the end of the programme chosen and will automatically stop To switch the machine off or stop the machine in the course of a programme push in the timer control knob As a safety feature the door is automatically locked during the washing cycle and remains locked for a further 60 70 seconds after the machine finishes the pro gramme or is switched off This feature is not however operative during the water filling stage As an additional safety feature the door is also fitted with a double action catch Operation of this catch is very simple provided that the outside section is first slid inwards and then without releasing
5. ableclothes having particularly hard to remove stains as this will give a vigorous washing action even on the delicate cycles USE OF ADDITIVES washing machine is designed to carry out automatically special treatments ch as the addition of fabric softeners at the end of some washing programmes The liquids to be used should be put into compartment C fig 8 of the dispenser at the beginning of the programme and will be automatically utilised at the appropriate time Dense liquids must be diluted with water With regard to the amount of additive to be used follow the manufacturer s instructions bearing in mind that Approximately 3 gallons of water are utilized during this process WHICH POWDER Do not use ordinary powders like Ariel Radiant Daz etc in your new Zanussi SL 24 The reason for this is very simple these powders produce so much lather that clothes are prevented from tumbling freely and cannot get properly clean Do use the right powder To get the best results from the SL 24 we recommend Persil Automatic Like all modern automatic machines the SL 24 works at peak efficiency with a low lather product Persil Automatic s balanced lather is spe cially designed to complement the cleaning action of these machines So use it regularly for trouble free washing and superb results Do use enough powder To get your clothes really clean it is essential that enough powder is used in the machine The correct amount will depend on a
6. compartment WASH PROGRAMMES Non fast coloureds Vigorous wash in lukewarm water 5 rinses in cold water Spinning Put the powder required for the wash into compartment b if required pour the liquid additive into compartment o Z Rinses 6 5 rinses in cold water Spinning Special Treatments Rinse with cold water and additive Spinning Pour the liquid additive into compartment c taking care not to exceed the level of the filter _ Spinning for about 5 minutes with water draining It is important to place timer index line exactly on No 8 position 8 If you wish to spin your laundry at the completion of programmes 9 10 and 11 use the following procedure Switch machine off and turn the timer control knob to the No 8 position and start the machine Allow the machine to spin for approximately 1 minute Depress the knob Turn to the off position 11 WASH PROGRAMMES SYNTHETICS WOOL DELICATES Note There is no water draining in the last rinse of the following cycles to prevent the clothes from creasing if they are left in the machine at the end of the wash To drain the water turn the timer knob to the symbol y 9 10 White nylon heavy soil Prewash in lukewarm water Gentle wash in hot water 3 rinses in cold water No spinning Put the powder required for prewash into compartment a and for the main wash into compartment b
7. ipe if used has an internal diameter of at least 1 1 5 ins Be sure that the drain hose is not choked or placed in such a way as to obstruct the normal water flow lf an extension hose is required its inner diameter must be the same as that of the original hose of the washer its length must not exceed 52 ins and the drain must be no higher than 31 ins ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED Connection to the electrical supply should be made by a 3 pin 13 Amp or 3 pin 15 Amp plug If a BS 1363 3 pin 13 Amp fused plug and socket is used the plug should be fitted with a 13 Amp fuse If a 15 Amp plug and socket is used this should be protected by a 15 Amp fuse either in the plug or at the distribution board fuse box The manufacturer declines any liability should this safety measure not be observed RTANT The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code GREEN AND YELLOW EARTH BLUE NEUTRAL BROWN LIVE As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows the wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red
8. it the complete catch is pulled outwards fig 7 SELECTION OF WASHING PROGRAMME The washing machine carries out 8 washing programmes Each programme has been specially designed for a specific type of fabric e g cotton synthetic fibres wool etc The appropriate programme must therefore be chosen according to the type of fabric to be washed Operate as follows make sure the timer knob is pressed in and then rotate it clockwise unt the timer index line corresponds with the number of the programme chosen put washing powder into the appropriate compartments of the pull out dispenser on the left hand side of the machine FILLING WITH WASHING POWDER The washing powder dispenser is located on the left front side of the control panel It is very important to use a low sudsing powder see paragraph Which powder such as Persil Automatic Pull out dispenser drawer and add washing powder The amount of washing powder for the prewash or soaking 2 3 ozs should be put into section A of dispenser fig 8 and the powder for the main wash 3 4 ozs should be put into section For biological washing of synthetic material use the specific powders which are available on the market and read the manufacturer s instructions carefully Once the dispenser drawer is filled close by pushing in INTENSIVE WASH PUSH BUTTON It is advisable to depress push button when washing shirts or t
