1. precautions as given below E Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your body and arm to allow you to resist KICKBACK forces KICKBACK forces can be controlled by the operator if proper precautions are taken E When blade is binding or when interrupting a cut for any reason release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or KICKBACK may occur Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding E When restarting a saw in the workpiece center the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material If saw blade is binding it may walk up or KICKBACK from the workpiece as the saw is restarted SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and KICKBACK Large panels tend to sag under their own weight Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel Do not use dull or damaged blade Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf which causes excessive friction blade binding and KICKBACK Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut If blade adjustment shifts while cutting it may cause binding and KICKBACK Use extra caution when making a Pocke

TOOL USE AND CARE m Use clamps or other practical way to secure and sup port the workpiece to a stable platform Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control E Do not force tool Use the correct tool for your application The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed E Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off A tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired E Disconnect battery pack from tool or place the switch in the locked or off position before making any adjust ments changing accessories or storing the tool Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally E Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users m When battery pack is not in use keep it away from other metal objects like paper clips coins keys nails screws or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks burns or a fire E Maintain tools with care Keep cutting tools sharp and clean Properly maintained tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control E Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the tool s operation If dam
3. allow the saw to come to a complete stop before turning off the laser 16 TO RAISE ASSEMBLY TO TIGHTEN TO LOWER SAW DEPTH ADJUSTMENT KNOB TO LOOSEN LASER GUIDE SWITCH ON OFF A O j o WU gt l l Eh V pr yj A Q d OPERATION OPERATING THE SAW See Figures 14 16 It is important to understand the correct method for operat ing the saw Refer to the figures in this section to learn the correct and incorrect ways for handling the saw A WARNING To make sawing easier and safer always maintain proper control of the saw Loss of control could cause an ac cident resulting in possible serious injury DANGER When lifting the saw from the workpiece the blade is exposed on the underside of the saw until the lower blade guard closes Make sure the lower blade guard is closed before setting the saw down To make the best possible cut follow these helpful hints E Hold the saw firmly with both hands E Avoid placing your hand on the workpiece while making a cut E Support the workpiece so that the cut kerf is always to your side Support the workpiece near the cut E Clamp the workpiece securely so that the workpiece will not move during the cut E Always place the saw on the workpiece that is supported not the cut off piece E Place the workpiece with the good side down E Draw a guideline along the desired line of cut before beginni
4. a minimum of 1 hour of charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack The battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging This is normal and does not indicate a problem Do not place the charger and battery pack in an area of extreme heat or cold They will work best at normal room temperature NOTE The charger and battery pack should be placed in a location where the temperature is more than 50 F but less than 100 F When batteries become fully charged unplug the charger from the power supply and remove the battery pack OPERATION CHARGING A HOT BATTERY PACK When using the tool continuously the batteries in the battery pack will become hot You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge When the battery pack becomes discharged and is hot this will cause the green LED to come on instead of the red LED After 30 minutes reinsert the battery pack in the charger If the green LED continues to remain on return battery pack to your nearest Ryobi Authorized Service Center for checking or replacing NOTE This situation only occurs when continuous use of the tool causes the batteries to become hot It does not occur under normal circumstances Refer to CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK for normal recharging of batter ies If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances return both the battery pack and charger to

7. making a pocket cut Attempting a pocket cut at any other setting can result in loss of control of the saw possibly causing serious injury A WARNING Never tie the lower blade guard in a raised position Leav ing the blade exposed could lead to serious injury E Adjust the bevel setting to zero E Set the blade to the correct blade depth setting LOWER BLADE E Swing the lower blade guard up using the lower blade GUARD HANDLE guard handle NOTE Always raise the lower blade guard with the handle to avoid serious injury E Hold the lower blade guard by the handle E Rest the front of the base flat against the workpiece with the rear of the handle raised so the blade does not touch the workpiece E Start the saw and let the blade reach full speed E Guide the saw into the workpiece and make the cut muy t fy mim A WARNING Always cut in a forward direction when pocket cutting LOWER BLADE GUARD Fig 23 Cutting in the reverse direction could cause the saw to POCKET CUT climb up on the workpiece and back toward you 20 ADJUSTMENTS A WARNING Before performing any adjustment make sure the bat tery pack is removed from tool and the switch is in the OFF position Failure to heed this warning could result in serious personal injury POSITIVE 0 BEVEL STOP See Figure 24 The saw has a positive 0 bevel stop that has been factory adjusted to assure 0 angle of the saw blade when making 9
8. reach underneath the work The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the work Check lower guard for proper closing before each use Do not operate saw if lower guard does not move freely and close instantly Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position If saw is accidentally dropped lower guard may be bent Raise the lower guard with the retracting handle Make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part in all angles and depths of cut Check the operation and condition of the lower guard spring If the guard and the spring are not operating properly they must be serviced before use Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts gummy deposits or a buildup of debris Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts such as Pocket Cuts and Compound Cuts Raise lower guard by retracting handle As soon as blade enters the material lower guard must be released For all other sawing the lower guard should operate automatically Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench or floor An unprotected coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards cutting whatever is in its path Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released NEVER hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure blade binding or loss of con

10. 0 cuts CHECKING POSITIVE 0 BEVEL STOP E Place the saw in an upside down position on a work bench E Check the squareness of the saw blade to the base of the saw using a carpenter s square ADJUSTING POSITIVE 0 BEVEL STOP E Loosen bevel adjustment knob E Turn setscrew with hex key and adjust base until it is square with the saw blade E Tighten bevel adjustment knob securely A WARNING Attempting a bevel cut without having the bevel ad justment knob securely tightened can result in serious injury ADJUSTING THE LASER See Figure 25 NOTE Draw a pencil line on a scrap workpiece parallel to the long edge of the base as a straight line guide to aid in the adjusting process E Make sure the laser is turned off Remove the laser cover by lifting it off its base Turn the laser on Loosen the screw inside the laser Rest the front of the base on a scrap workpiece Adjust the laser beam with the mark on the scrap workpiece by loosening the screw to the laser aperture and slowly moving the laser guide left or right Since blade thicknesses vary always make a trial cut in scrap workpiece to ensure an accurate cut Once alignment is achieved tighten the screw Replace the laser cover Check for proper alignment Repeat as necessary until the laser is aligned 21 ADJUSTMENT BEVEL ADJUSTMENT KNOB POSITIVE 0 BEVEL STOP CARPENTER S SQUARE LONG EDGE OF BASE PENCIL LINE MAI

18. e green LED on the front of the charger comes on NOTE Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged Allow several cycles operation followed by recharging for them to become fully charged 12 Charge the battery pack only with a recommended char ger Make sure the power supply is normal household voltage 120 volts 60 Hz AC only Connect the charger to the power supply Place the battery pack in the charger aligning raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the charger See Figure 4 E Press down on the battery pack to be sure contacts on the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the charger Normally the red LED on charger will come on This indicates the charger is in fast charging mode Red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour then the green LED will come on Green LED on indicates battery pack is fully charged and charger is in maintenance charge mode NOTE The green LED will remain on until the battery pack is removed from the charger or charger is disconnected from the power supply If both yellow and green LEDs come on this indi cates a deeply discharged or defective battery pack Allow the battery pack to remain in the charger for 15 to 30 minutes When the battery pack reaches normal voltage range the red LED should come on If the red LED does not come on after 30 minutes this may indicate a defective battery pack and should be replaced After normal usage
19. ed or replaced by an authorized service center Following this rule will reduce the risk of shock fire or serious injury E Make sure your extension cord is in good condition When using an extension cord be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw A wire gage size A W G of at least 12 is recommended for an extension cord 50 feet or less in length A cord exceeding 100 feet is not recommended If in doubt use the next heavier gage The smaller the gage number the heavier the cord An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating E Inspect for and remove all nails from lumber before using this tool Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury Laser Guide Warnings The laser guide radiation used in the Ryobi circular saw is Class Il with maximum lt 1mW and 650nm wavelengths These lasers do not normally present an optical hazard although staring at the beam may cause flash blindness E Avoid direct eye exposure when using the laser guide E The laser shall be used and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions E Never aim the beam at a person or object other than the workpiece E Always ensure the laser beam is aimed at a sturdy workpiece without reflective surfaces Shiny reflective sheet metal or similar shiny materials are not suitable for laser use E All repairs should be made by an authoriz
