1. Region The location where the access point is used Select from the countries in the list In the United States the region is fixed to United States and is not changeable Enable WMM WMM means Wi Fi Multimedia Quality of Service WMM QoS WMM QoS can prioritize wireless voice and video traffic over the wireless link WMM QoS prioritizes wireless data packets from different applications based on four access categories voice video best effort and background For an application to receive the benefits of WMM QoS both it and the client running that application must have WMM enabled Legacy applications that do not support WMM and applications that do not require QoS are assigned to the best effort category which receives a lower priority than voice and video WMM QoS is enabled by default You can disable it by clearing the Enable WMM check box and clicking Apply Enable SSID Broadcast This feature allows the access point to broadcast its SSID so wireless stations can see this wireless name SSID in their scanned network lists This check box is selected by default To turn off the SSID broadcast clear this check box and click Apply Name SSID The SSID is also known as the wireless network name Enter a 32 character maximum name in this field This field is case sensitive Channel The wireless channel the access point uses Select a value from 1 through 13 For products in the North America market only Channels 1 through 11 c

Your settings are saved Set Up a Wireless Access List by MAC Address You can set up a list of computers and wireless devices that are allowed to join the wireless network This list is based on the unique MAC address of each computer and device Each network device has a MAC address which is a unique 12 character physical address containing the hexadecimal characters 0 9 a f or A F only and separated by colons for example 00 09 AB CD EF 01 Typically the MAC address is on the label of the wireless card or network interface device If you do not have access to the label you can display the MAC address using the network configuration utilities of the computer You might also find the MAC addresses in the Attached Devices screen gt To restrict access based on MAC addresses 1 2 N Select Advanced Setup gt Wireless Settings Click the Setup Access List button pM Wireless Card Access List Available Wireless Cards Wireless Card Entry Device Name MAC Address Click Add The Wireless Card Access Setup screen opens and displays a list of currently active wireless cards and their Ethernet MAC addresses If the computer or device you want is in the Available Wireless Cards list select that radio button otherwise type a name and the MAC address You can usually find the MAC address on the bottom of the wireless device Tip You can copy and paste the MAC addresses from the Attached Devices screen int
4. and guests can connect to your network using the SSID of this profile Enable SSID Broadcast If this check box is selected the wireless access point broadcasts its name SSID to all wireless stations Stations with no SSID can adopt the correct SSID for connections to this access point Allow guest to access My Local Network If this check box is selected anyone who connects to this SSID has access to your local network not just Internet access Give the guest network a name The guest network name is case sensitive and can be up to 32 characters You then manually configure the wireless devices in your network to use the guest network name in addition to the main SSID Select a security option from the list The security options are described in Wireless Security Options on page 16 Click Apply Your settings are saved Basic Configuration 20 WN804 Access Point View Attached Devices You can view all computers or devices that are currently connected to your network gt To go to the Attached Devices screen 1 Select Attached Devices Attached Devices Wireless Devices Wireless intruders also show up here s IP Address Wired devices are connected to the access point with Ethernet cables Wireless devices have joined the wireless network The following information is displayed e t number The order in which the device joined the network IP Address The IP address that the access point assigned to

6. button System Settings 23 WN804 Access Point Manage the Configuration File The configuration settings of the access point are stored within the access point in a configuration file You can back up save this file to your computer restore it or reset it to the factory default settings Back Up Settings To back up the access point s configuration settings 1 Select System gt Backup Settings Save a copy of current settings Restore saved settings from a file Revert to factory default settings 2 Click Backup Settings 3 Specify a location to store the cfg file A copy of the current settings is saved Restore Configuration Settings To restore configuration settings that you backed up 1 Select System Backup Settings 2 Click the Browse button to find the cfg file 3 Click the Restore button The file is uploaded to the access point and the access point reboots WARNING Do not interrupt the reboot process System Settings 24 WN804 Access Point Erase the Current Configuration Settings You can use the Erase button to erase the configuration and restore the factory default settings You might want to do this if you move the access point to a different network or if you changed the password and have forgotten what it is The default password is on the product label You can also use the Reset button on the back of the access point to erase the configuration and restore the facto

16. an be operated Do not change the channel unless you experience interference shown by lost connections or slow data transfers If this happens experiment with different channels to see which is the best When you use multiple access points it is better if adjacent access points use different radio frequency channels to reduce interference The recommended channel spacing between adjacent access points is four channels for example use Channels 1 and 5 or 6 and 10 Mode Up to 145 Mbps is the default setting which allows 802 11n and 802 11g wireless devices to join the network The other settings are Up to 54 Mbps and Up to 300 Mbps Security Options The access point comes with unique preset wireless security These settings are on the product label NETGEAR recommends that you use preset security so that you can refer to the label if you forget the WiFi password However you can change the security option and passphrase Wireless Security Options A security option is the type of security protocol applied to your wireless network The security protocol in force encrypts data transmissions and ensures that only trusted devices receive authorization to connect to your network Wi Fi Protected Access WPA has several options including pre shared key PSK encryption Basic Configuration 16 WN804 Access Point WPA encryption is built into all hardware that has the Wi Fi certified seal This seal means that the product is authoriz
