1. Align the tip of the film with the film leader end mark a FILM Make sure the film is placed between the top and bottom guides properly Close the back cover The film automatically advances to the first frame Notes e If there is dirt on the film detector the film cannot be wound properly Ensure the film is taut as illustrated on the illus tration below Take up any slack in the film by pushing it back into the cartridge x Slack No Flat Yes 15 5 BY A a 5 appears in the exposure counter on the LCD panel when the film is loaded properly 6 If G appears in the exposure counter on the LCD panel it means that the film is not loaded properly In this case open the back cover and load the film once again If the main switch is turned OFF when the film is loaded properly the number of exposure on the LCD panel will remain on for approx 5 seconds If the main switch is turned OFF when the film is not loaded properly G in the exposure counter on the LCD panel disappears instantly 16 Automatic film speed setting This camera is designed to use DX coded films with ISO rating at 100 and 400 When any of these films are loaded the proper film speed is auto matically set for the camera Notes e Use of negative color film print film is recom mended e Non DX coded film cannot be used If non DX coded film is used the camera set the film speed to ISO 100

6. strap caught around their neck Be sure to store batteries out of the reach of children Seek medical assistance immediately if accidentally swallowed 4 A CAUTION Do not use the flash near anyone s eyes as it may hurt them Be particularly careful with the flash around the infants e Never try to disassemble short or recharge the battery Also do not dispose of the bat tery in fire as it may explode e Remove the battery from the camera immediately if it become hot or begin to smoke Be careful not to burn yourself dur ing removal PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR CAMERA Precautions when taking pictures Do not use the camera where it may come in contact with rain water or any other liquid because the camera is not weather water or liq uid resistant Should the camera get wet from rain splashing water or any other liquid wipe it aff immediately with a dry soft cloth e Do not drop the camera or allow it to hit a solid object if the camera suffers a severe shock or impact take it to a Pentax service center for inspection e Be careful not to subject the camera to strong vibrations shock or pressure Use a cushion to protect the camera when carrying it in a motor cycle car boat etc e Condensation on the interior or the exterior of the camera may be extremely harmful to the camera mechanism as it may cause rust and or corrosion Furthermore if the camera is taken from warm temperature to a subfreez
7. the blinking data is being corrected the data cannot be imprinted 9 Operational precautions As you release the shutter the bar mark on the display blinks for a few seconds indicating the data has been imprinted If there is a white or yellow object in the corner of the picture where the data is imprinted the data may be difficult to read When composing your photographs try to avoid brightly colored subjects in that corner 10 MAIN SWITCH Push the main switch bution to switch ON The lens extends slightly and the LCD panel is now on To switch OFF push the main switch button again If the camera is ON and left unused for over 3 minutes the lens automatically retracts and the power is turned off to save the battery Use one 3V lithium battery type CR123A or the equivalent Do not remove the battery before it is exhausted If the battery is removed the data on the DATE MODEL is initialized BATTERY CHECK After you turn the main switch ON the lens slight ly extends and the lens cover opens See page 8 when the battery exhaustion sym bol T appears on the LCD panel 11 HOLDING THE CAMERA 1 Keep the camera as still as and steady Note it against your face Depress the shutter e Do not hold the zoom lens because it moves release button gently If too much force is back and forth while in operation applied the camera is likely to shake and the picture will be blu

AUSTION WARNING Use one 3V lithium battery CR 124 Ensure that the power is off before replacing the battery 1 Open the battery chamber cover by pulling the cover lock in the direction of the arrow with the Strap clamp s protrusion 2 Insert one lithium battery CR123A or the equivalent with the plus minus sides matching the indications in the battery com partment 3 Close the battery chamber cover Ensure that the cover is locked with a click If the battery is loaded correctly the zoom lens moves slightly and the motor operates for a few seconds 8 On the DATE MODEL the data is initialized when the battery chamber cover is opened After opening the battery chamber cover correct the data See page 9 BATTERY EXHAUSTION WARNING When the battery is nearly exhausted the battery symbol appears on the LCD panel to warn you Replace the battery as soon as possible When starts blinking no operations can be performed Battery life using 24 exposure film rolls Approx 15 rolls when 50 of the time uses flash using the CR123A battery and under Pentax test ing conditions Actual battery life performance may vary drastically depending on usage of Power Zoom Flash and external conditions such as tem perature and freshness of the battery Year Month Day Day Hour Minute blank Month Day Year Day Month Year

Notes i e The data on the LCD panel will be imprinted on the film e indicates no data will be imprinted M on the LCD panel indicates Month e The DATE model records dates up to the year 2049 on pictures Switching the Mode Depress the DATE button with your finger the mode on the LCD panel switches as shown in the chart DATE MODEL if you purchased the DATE MODEL read this section Correcting the date Use the strap clamp s protrusion to depress the SELECT and ADJUST buttons 1 To select the category of digits that you wish to change depress the SELECT button repeatedly until the digits on the LCD panel that wish to change begin to blink 2 Depress the ADJUST button to change dig its of the specified category you chose with the SELECT button Digits increase by one each time you depress the ADJUST button Holding down the button will advance digits continuously 3 After the data has been adjusted depress the SELECT button The bar mark appears on the LCD panel indicating that data imprint ing choices are possible The blinking allows precise fine tuning of the internal clock to the beginning of a specified minute To do so depress the DATE button until Day Hour Minute digits appear and then depress the SELECT button to make the blink Then depress the ADJUST button in sync with a time signal e If you release the shutter while

15. cus lock is the function to lock focus 20 HARD TO AUTOFOCUS SUBJECTS The autofocus system is highly precise but not perfect Some subjects may not focus as you wish In this case use the focus lock tech nique Subjects which may fool the autofocus system include a Black or very dark objects which don t reflect much light b Subjects with horizontal lines complex or detailed patterns c Flickering light sources such as neon signs fluorescent lamps TV images sunlight coming through trees etc and subjects illu minated by these light sources d Glossy and reflective surface like glass mir ror car bodies etc e Fast moving subjects t Water jets water surface smoke flame fireworks etc which have no distinct or consistent form or a subject in mist 3 While depressing the shutter release button halfway re aim the camera or recompose the picture then release the shutter Note e You can cancel focus lock simply by lifting your finger from the shutter release button 21 UNLOADING FILM 1 Rewinding the film After you have exposed the last frame of the roll the lens retracts and the film rewinds automatically Then the motor stops and 0 blinks for approx gt seconds to indicate that the film has been rewound completely And the power will turn OFF automatically If you turn the main switch ON before removing the film 3 blinks and the shu
