The hot swappable hard drives connect to the system board through the hard drive backplane Hot swappable hard drives are supplied in hot swappable hard drive carriers that fit in the hard drive slots A CAUTION Before attempting to remove or install a hot swappable hard drive while the system is running see the documentation for the storage controller card to ensure that the host adapter is configured correctly to support hot swap hard drive removal and insertion CAUTION Do not turn off or reboot your system while the hard drive is being formatted Doing so can cause a hard drive failure K NOTE Use only hard drives that have been tested and approved for use with the hard drive backplane When you format a hard drive allow enough time for the formatting to be completed Be aware that high capacity hard drives can take a number of hours to format Removing A 2 5 Inch Hard Drive Blank A CAUTION To maintain proper system cooling all empty hard drive slots must have hard drive blanks installed 1 If installed remove the front bezel 2 Press the release button and slide the hard drive blank out until it is free of the hard drive slot Figure 19 Removing and Installing a 2 5 Inch Hard Drive Blank 1 hard drive blank 2 release button 50 Installing A 2 5 Inch Hard Drive Blank 1 If installed remove the front bezel 2 Insert the hard drive blank into the hard drive slot until the release button clicks into place

CAUTION To ensure proper system cooling memory module blanks must be installed in any memory socket that is not occupied Remove memory module blanks only if you intend to install memory modules in those sockets Turn off the system including any attached peripherals and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet Open the system H applicable remove the cooling shroud Locate the memory module sockets A CAUTION Handle each memory module only by the card edges making sure not to touch the middle of the memory module or metallic contacts To avoid damaging the memory module handle only one memory module at a time H a memory module or a memory module blank is installed in the socket remove it 14 K NOTE Retain removed memory module blank s for future use Align the memory module s edge connector with the alignment key of the memory module socket and insert the memory module in the socket NOTE The memory module socket has an alignment key that allows you to install the memory module in the socket in only one orientation CAUTION To prevent damage to the memory module socket during installation apply pressure at both ends of the memory module evenly Do not apply pressure to the center of the memory module Press down on the memory module with your thumbs until the memory module snaps into place Figure 18 Installing The Memory Module 1 memory module 2 memory module ejectors 3 memory module socket
