1. The appliance gives off heat After positioning the appliance on the worktop leave a space of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls and at least 15 cm above the coffee maker Water penetrating the coffee maker could cause damage Do not place the appliance near taps or sinks The appliance could be damaged if the water it contains freezes Do not install the coffee maker in a room where the temperature could drop below free zing point Arrange the power cable in such a way that it cannot be damaged by sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces e g electric hot plates 10 Connecting the appliance Important Check that the mains power supply voltage corresponds to the value indicated on the rating plate on the bottom of the appliance Connect the appliance to an efficiently earthed and correctly installed socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualified pro fessional Setting up the appliance NB Coffee has been used to factory test the appliance and it is therefore completely nor mal for there to be traces of coffee in the mill The coffee maker is however guaranteed to be new You should customise water hardness as soon as possible following the instructions in the section Setting water hardness on page 20 1 Plug the appliance into t

A Important Danger of burns When clea ning the internal tubes of the milk container a litt le hot water leaks out of the milk spout B5 Avoid contact with splashes of water When Press CLEAN button flashes on the display each time you use a milk function 1 Leave the milk container in the machine you do not need to empty it 2 Place a cup or other recipient under the milk spout fig 20 3 Press the CLEAN button fig 29 and keep it pressed until the progress bar displayed toge ther with the message CLEANIN is comple te 4 After cleaning remove the milk container and always clean the nozzle with a sponge fig 30 g NB When Press CLEAN button flashes on the display you can still prepare any type of cof fee or milk If you have to make a number of drinks with milk wait until you have delivered the last cup before cleaning the container The milk left in the container can be kept in the refrigerator Programming the quantities of coffee and milk in the cup The machine leaves the factory set to delivery standard quantities To change these quantities proceed as follows 1 Attach the milk container see Filling and attaching the milk container place a cup under the coffee spouts and milk spout fig 20 2 Press the icon corresponding to the function you want to programme until PROGRAM QUANTITY Milk for is displayed and the icon corresponding to the selected function f

Until the grounds container has been cleaned the appliance continues to display the message and coffee cannot be made To clean with the machine on open the service door on the front of the appliance fig 32 extract the drip tray fig 33 empty and clean Empty the grounds container and clean tho roughly to remove all residues left on the bot tom A Important When removing the drip tray the grounds container must be emptied even if it is not completely full If this is not done when you make the next cof fees the grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the machine Cleaning the drip tray A Important f the drip tray is not emptied regularly the water could overflow from the edge and seep inside or around the coffee maker This could damage the machine the surface it rests on or the surrounding area The drip tray is fitted with a level indicator red showing the level of water it contains fig 34 Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned To remove the tray 1 Open the service door fig 32 2 Remove the drip tray and the grounds contai ner fig 33 3 Empty the drip tray and grounds container and wash them 4 Remove the drip tray complete with grounds container A9 5 Close the service door Cleaning the water tank 1 Clean the water tank A7 regularly about once a month with a damp cloth and a litt
5. 1 Position a container under the spout 2 Press thegBicon the appliance starts delive ring hot water until the message HOT WATER PROGRAM QUANTITY is displayed 17 and the AR icon flashes then release 3 When tHe hot water in the cup reaches the required level press the icon again The machine is now reprogrammed with the new quantity CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Cleaning the coffee maker The following parts of the machine must be clea ned regularly coffee grounds container A9 drip tray A12 water tank A7 hot water and steam nozzle A16 coffee spouts A15 pre ground coffee funnel A4 Inside the machine accessible after opening the service door A13 infuser AB milk container B touch screen C A Important Do not use solvents abrasive detergents or alcohol to clean the coffee maker With De Longhi superautomatic coffee makers you need not use chemical products to clean the appliance The descaler recommended by De Longhi is made from natural and completely biodegra dable substances None of the components of the appliance can be washed in a dishwasher with the exception of the milk container B Do not use metal objects to remove encrusta tions or coffee deposits as they could scratch metal or plastic surfaces Cleaning the coffee grounds container When EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER is displa yed the grounds container must be emptied and cleaned

Milk has been delivered recently and the tubes inside the milk container must be cleaned Press the CLEAN button and keep it pressed until the pro gress bar which appears on the display together with the message Cleaning is com plete Press OK The inside of the appliance is very dirty The initial priming of the machine has not been com pleted successfully 23 Press the icon corresponding to OK until a new message is displayed Then clean the inside of the appliance tho roughly as described in the section Cleaning Repeat the setting up opera tions TROUBLESHOOTING Below is a list of some of the possible malfunctions If the problem cannot be resolved as described contact customer services PROBLEM The coffee is not hot POSSIBLE CAUSE The cups have not been preheated The infuser has cooled down because 2 3 minutes have elapsed since the last coffee was made REMEDY Warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water using the hot water function Before making coffee heat the infuser by pressing the g icon see section Manual rinsing The coffee is not creamy enough The coffee is ground too coarsely Wrong type of coffee Turn the grinding adjustment knob one click anticlockwise towards 1 while the coffee mill is in operation fig 8 Continue one click at a time until coffee delivery is sati sfactory The effect is only visible after making 2 c

REMEDY Fill the tank with water and or insert it correctly pushing it as far as it will go until it clicks into place Press the corresponding icon and deliver water from the spout until the flow is conti nuous and regular Turn the grinding adjustment knob one click clockwise towards 7 while the coffee mill is in operation The effect is only visible after making 2 coffees If delivery is still too slow repeat the correction proce dure turning the grinding adjustment knob another click until delivery is correct INSERT WATER SPOUT The water spout is not inser ted or is inserted incorrectly Insert water spout as far as it will go EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER ra The grounds container is too full or more than 3 days have passed since you last made coffee this guarantees cor rect hygiene of the machine Empty the grounds container and clean then replace Important when removing the drip tray the grounds container MUST be emptied even if it is not completely full If this is not done when you make the next coffees the grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the machine INSERT GROUNDS CONTAI NER D After cleaning the grounds container has not been repla ced Open the service door and insert the grounds container INSERT MILK CONTAINER The milk container is not inserted Insert milk container DESCALE The machine must be desca l
9. 4 Place a cup under the coffee spouts 4 Press the 1 cup coffee icon X2 fig 12 The selected quantity and Ground taste are dis played 5 Preparation begins A cup appears on the dis play and gradually fills as preparation pro gresses po 15 g NB While the machine is making coffee delivery can be interrupted at any moment by pressing the lit cup icon Once the coffee has been made the appliance is ready to use again g NB See the tips in the section above MAKING DRINKS WITH MILK Filling and attaching the milk container 1 Turn the lid of the milk container clockwise until it becomes noticeably difficult to turn then remove fig 15 2 Fill the milk container with a sufficient quan tity of milk not exceeding the MAX level mar ked on the handle fig 16 g NB Do not use full fat milk Use skimmed or semi skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature about 5 C To avoid milk with poor froth or large bubbles always clean the milk container lid and hot water nozzle as described in the section Cleaning the milk container 3 Make sure the milk intake tube is correctly inserted in the bottom of the milk container lid fig 17 4 Replace the milk container lid and turn anti clockwise as far as it will go 5 Remove the hot water spout from the nozzle fig 18 6 Attach the container to the nozzle pushing as far as it will go fig 19 7 Place a sufficiently large cup under t

ER HARDNESS The DESCALE message is displayed after a period of time established according to water hardness The coffee maker is set by default for a hardness value of 4 very hard water The machine can also be programmed according to the hardness of the mains water in the various regions varying the frequency with which the message is displayed Measuring water hardness 1 Remove the TOTAL HARDNESS TEST indica tor paper from its pack 2 Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for about a second 3 Remove the paper from the water and shake lightly After about a minute 1 2 3 or 4 red squares form depending on the hardness of the water Each square corresponds to one level 10 1 1 D 13 20 Setting water hardness 1 Choose the MAINTENANCE soft water Level 000 if slightly hard water Level oO HN hard water Level 0000 gt HI very hard water Level coso MENN 3 section as described in the section Changing the menu settings 3 Press the selection icons until WATER HARD NESS is displayed 2 Turn the selection dial to select WATER HARDNESS Press the icon to confirm Press the selection icons to set the level cor Tespondinggtp the water hardness identified by the indicator paper see figure in previous section 5 Press the icon to confirm the setting 6 The appliance is automatically ready for use again D

17. he mains socket and place the main switch on the back of the appliance in the position fig 1 You must first choose the language the langua ges scroll through at intervals of about 3 seconds 2 When Italian appears press the selection icon corresponding to OK on the display for a few seconds fig 2 Once the language has been saved the message English installed appears Follow the instructions indicated by the appliance 3 FILL TANK remove the water tank fill to the MAX line with fresh water then replace in the appliance fig 3 4 If the water spout is not fitted to the applian ce INSERT WATER SPOUT is displayed Insert the spout fig 4 5 Place a container with a minimum capacity of 100 ml under the spout 6 PRESS OK then press the icon correspon ding to OK on the display fig 2 Please Wait is displayed and the appliance begins to deliver water The appliance ends the first start up procedure then the message Turning off Please wait is displayed and the appliance goes off The coffee maker is now ready for normal use g NB When using the appliance for the first time you need to make 4 5 cups of coffee and 4 5 cappuccinos before it starts to give satisfactory results TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON g NB Before turning the appliance on make sure the main switch on the back of the appliance is in the position fig 1 Each time the appliance is turned on it per
18. i de the holes and the groove on the fine end of the frothed milk regulator 19 5 Use a brush not metal to remove residues from the milk hole 6 Check that the intake tube and milk spout are not clogged with milk residues 7 Replace the frothed Ai milk regulator milk spout and intake tube 8 Replace the lid on the milk container turning it anticlockwise as far as it will go to hook it in place DESCALING Descale the machine when the message DESCA LE flashes on the display Frothed milk regulator Milk hole Important Descaler contains acids which may irritate the skin and eyes It is vital to adhere to the manufacturers safety warnings given on the descaler pack and the warnings relating to the pro cedure to follow in the event of contact with the skin and eyes NB Use De Longhi descaler only Under no circumstances should you use sulphamic or ace tic based descalers Their use invalidates the gua rantee Failure to descale the appliance as descri bed also invalidates the guarantee 1 Turn the machine on 2 Choose the MAINTENANCE section as describe in the section Changing the menu settings 3 Press the selection icons until DESCALING is displayed 4 Press the 9 icon to confirm OK to confirm is displayed Press the icon again to activate the function 5 The message ADD DESCALER Press OK is displayed 6 Before confirming empty the water tank A7 Add the de

32. s preparation progresses Once the coffee has been made the appliance pre pares for use again g NB While the machine is making coffee delivery can be interrupted at any moment by pressing the lit cup icon Atthe end of delivery to increase the quantity of coffee in the cup just press within 3 seconds one of the coffee icons sor Zi Once the coffee has been made the appliance is ready to use again g NB Tips For hotter coffee you should 1 perform a rinse cycle as described in the sec tion Manual rinsing 2 before making coffee warm the cups by rin sing them with hot water using the hot water function A Important If the coffee is delivered a drop at a time too fast and not creamy enough or too cold read the tips in the Troubleshooting section on page 24 Making coffee using pre ground coffee A Important Never add pre ground coffee when the coffee maker is turned off or it could spread through the inside of the appliance and dirty it This could damage the appliance Never use more than 1 level measure or it could dirty the inside of the coffee maker or block the funnel g NB If you are using pre ground coffee we recommend you make just one cup of coffee at a time 1 Repeatedly press the selection icon C4 cor responding to the taste bar until Ground taste and are displayed on the display 2 Put one level measure of pre ground coffee into the funnel fig 1
