Make sure the funnel is not blocked then add one level measure of pre ground coffee fig 14 Place a cup under the coffee spouts Press the 1 cup coffee button amp 2 fig 9 Preparation begins The amount of coffee se lected is displayed together with a progress bar which gradually fills as preparation pro gresses i Please note If Energy Saving mode is active you may have to wait a few seconds before the first coffee is delivered MAKING DRINKS WITH MILK Filling and attaching the milk container 1 2 A Remove the lid fig 15 Fill the milk container with a sufficient quan tity of milk not exceeding the MAX level marked on the container fig 16 Each mark on the side of the container corresponds to 100 ml of milk i Please note e Fora denser more even froth you should use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature about 5 C To avoid producing milk with poor froth or large bubbles always clean the milk lid and hot water nozzle as described in the section Cleaning the milk container on pages 15 and 17 Make sure the milk intake tube is correctly inserted in the bottom of the milk container lid fig 17 Place the lid back on the milk container Remove the hot water spout from the nozzle fig 18 Attach the container to the nozzle and push as far as it will go fig 19 The machine emits a beep Place a sufficiently large cup under the coffee and froth
4. ter hardness The machine is factory set for a hardness value of 4 The machine can also be programmed according to the hardness of the mains water in the various regions so that the machine needs to be descaled less often Measuring water hardness 1 Remove the TOTAL HARDNESS TEST indi cator paper attached to this manual from its pack 2 Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for one second 3 Remove the paper from the water and shake lightly After about a minute 1 2 3 or 4 red squares form depending on the hardness of the wa ter Each square corresponds to one level Level 1 INI Level 2 HH Level 3 LIN level4 gt MENA Set water hardness 1 Press the P button to enter the menu 2 Turn the selection knob to select Water hardness 3 Confirm the selection by pressing the 2 button 4 Turn the selection knob and set the level shown by the indicator paper see previous paragraph 5 Press the ting 6 Pressthe 9 button to exit the menu amp 8 button to confirm the set The machine is now reprogrammed with the new water hardness setting WATER SOFTENER FILTER Certain models are fitted with a water softener filter If this is not the case with your model you are recommended to purchase one from De Lon ghi Customer Services To use the filter correctly follow the instructions below Installing the filter 1 Remove the fi

6. leave a space of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls and at least 15 cm above the coffee maker e Water penetrating the coffee maker could cause damage Do not place the appliance near taps or sinks e The appliance could be damaged if the water it contains freezes Do not install the applian ce in a room where the temperature could drop below freezing point e Arrange the power cable in such a way that it cannot be damaged by sharp edges or con tact with hot surfaces e g electric hot pla tes Connecting the appliance IN Important Check that the mains power supply voltage cor responds to the value indicated on the rating pla te on the bottom of the appliance Connect the appliance to an efficiently earthed and correctly installed socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualified professional Using the appliance for the first time i Please note e Coffee has been used to factory test the ap pliance and it is therefore completely normal for there to be traces of coffee in the mill The machine is however guaranteed to be new e You should customise water hardness as soon as possible following the instructions in the section Setting water hardness on page 19 1 Plug the appliance into the mains socket and make sure the main switch on the

9. i Please note Before turning the appliance on make sure the main switch on the back of the appliance is in the position fig 1 Each time the appliance is turned on it performs an automatic preheat and rinse cycle which can not be interrupted The appliance is ready for use only after completion of this cycle A Danger of burns During rinsing a little hot water comes out of the coffee spouts and is collected in the drip tray un derneath Avoid contact with splashes of water e To turn the appliance on press the 1 button fig 5 The message Heating up Please wait is displayed After heating the message Rinsing is displa yed As well as heating the boiler the appliance also heats the internal circuits by circulating hot water The appliance is at temperature when a message indicating the coffee taste and quantity is displa yed TURNING THE APPLIANCE OFF Each time the appliance is turned off it performs an automatic rinse cycle which cannot be inter rupted N Danger of burns During rinsing a little hot water flows from the coffee spouts Avoid contact with splashes of water To turn the appliance off press the d button fig 5 The appliance performs a rinse cycle then the message Turning Off Please wait is displayed and the appliance goes off i Please note If the appliance is not used for an extended pe riod also place the main switch in the 0 position
10. may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red When wiring the plug ensure that all strands of wire are securely retained in each terminal Do not forget to tighten the mains lead clamp on the plug If your electricity supply point has only two pin socket outlets or if you are in doubt consult a qualified electrician Should the mains lead ever require replacement it is essential that this operation be carried out by a qualified electrician and should only be replaced with a flexible cord of the same size After replacement of a fuse in the plug the fuse cover must be refitted If the fuse cover is lost the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained The colour of the correct replacement fuse cover is that of the coloured insert in the base of the fuse recess or elsewhere on the plug Always state this colour when ordering a replacement fuse cover Only 13amp replacement fuses which are asta approved to B S 1362 should be fitted This a
11. menu You can now use the coffee maker 12 13 14 Replacing the filter When REPLACE FILTER is displayed after two months see date indicator or when the applian ce has not been used for 3 weeks you should replace the filter 1 Remove the exhausted filter 2 Remove the new filter from the packaging 3 Turn the date indicator disk see fig 30 until the next 2 months of use are displayed the filter lasts about two months Refill the tank 5 Insert the filter in the water tank and immer se it completely sloping it to enable the air bubbles to escape fig 31 6 Place the filter in the filter housing fig 32A and press as far as it will go Close the tank with the lid fig 32B then replace the tank in the machine 7 Position a container with a minimum capaci ty of 100 ml under the hot water spout 8 Press the P button to enter the menu 9 Turn the selection knob until Replace is displayed Press the 2 button The messalje Confirm is displayed Press the e button to confirm the selec tion Hot Water Confirm is displayed Press the button to confirm the se lection The appliance begins delivering hot water and the message Please Wait is displayed After delivery the appliance returns automati Cally to the Ready for coffee position The new filter is now active and you can use the coffee maker gt 10 11 12 13 14

17. cleaning replace the infuser by sliding it onto the internal support then push the N lava nranrla PUSH symbol fully in until it clicks into pla ce i Please note Infuser support If the infuser is difficult to insert before inser tion adapt it to the right size by pressing the two levers shown in the figure 7 Once inserted make sure the two red but tons have snapped out 8 Close the infuser door 9 Replace the water tank Cleaning the milk container Clean the milk container as described below each time you prepare milk 1 Remove the lid 2 Remove the milk spout and intake tube 3 Turn the froth adjustment knob to the IN SERT position see figure and pull it off upwards 4 Wash all the com ponents thoroughly with hot water and mild washing up li quid All components are dishwasher safe placing them in the top basket of the di shwasher Make sure there are no milk residues in the hollow and groove under the knob see figure alongside If necessary scrape the groove with a too thpick 5 Rinse the inside of the froth adjustment knob under running water see figure alongsi de 6 Check that the intake tube and spout are not clogged with milk residues 7 Replace the knob li ning up the arrow with the word INSERT the spout and the milk intake tube 8 Place the lid back on the milk container groove hollow C
18. d when the coffee mill is in operation If the coffee is delivered too EN slowly or not at all turn one click clockwise towards 7 J For fuller bodied creamier turn one click anticlockwi se towards 1 do not turn more than one click at a time otherwise the coffee could be delivered a drop at a time least 2 cups of coffee have been delivered If this adjustment does not obtain the desired result turn the knob another click coffee on the other hand These adjustments will only be evident after at Tips for a hotter coffee For a hotter coffee before delivery you are re commended to e rinse the appliance through by pressing the 9 button Hot water flows out of the coffee spouts and heats the internal circuit of the machine so that the coffee delivered will be hotter e warm the cups with hot water using the hot water function e select the high coffee temperature in the menu Making coffee using coffee beans IN Important Do not use caramelised or candied coffee beans as they could stick to the coffee mill and make it unusable 1 Fill the container with coffee beans fig 11 2 Place under the coffee spouts 1 cup if you want one coffee fig 9 2 cups if you want 2 coffees 3 Lower the spouts as near as possible to the cup This makes a creamier coffee fig 12 4 Press the button corresponding to the num ber of coffees required 1 TZ or 2 cups 2 figs 9 and 13 5 Prepar

20. ed milk spouts Adjust the length of the milk spout To move it nearer the cup simply pull it downwards fig 20 Follow the instructions below for each fun ction Making cappuccino or macchiato 1 After attaching the milk container turn the froth adjustment knob on the milk container lid between position 2 gt and 3 amp fig 21 Press the CAPPUCCINO button CAPPUCCI NO is displayed together with a progress bar which fills gradually as preparation pro ceeds If the froth is not satisfactory turn the froth adjustment knob towards 2 CD less froth or towards 3 ee more froth After delivering the frothed milk the machine automatically makes the coffee Please note If during delivery you want to stop making milk or coffee press the CAPPUCCINO but ton twice e Do not leave the milk container out of the re frigerator for longer than strictly necessary The warmer the milk 5 ideal the poorer the froth will be e Itis normal for steam to be given off from the metal cup tray at the end of milk delivery Making frothed milk without coffee Proceed as described in the previous paragraph Making cappuccino or macchiato pressing the CAPPUCCINO button twice instead of once Please note If during delivery you want to stop making milk or coffee press the CAPPUCCINO button once Preparing milk unfrothed and without coffee Proceed as described in the previous para graph Making frothed milk tu
