E Enter your age When a heart rate program is select ed the word AGE and the current age setting will flash in the left dis play You must enter your age to use a heart rate program If you have already entered your age press the Age Set Enter button and go to step 4 If you have not entered your age press the or but ton repeatedly to enter your age and then press the Age Set Enter button rt TIME SEGMENT TIME IIC IC l NE mu PACE DISTANCE Once you have entered your age it will be saved in memory Hold the handgrip pulse sensor To use a heart rate program you must use the handgrip pulse sensor see step 5 on page 11 or the optional chest pulse sensor If you use the handgrip pulse sensor it is not necessary to hold the handgrips continuously during the program However you should hold the handgrips fre quently for the program to operate properly Each time you hold the handgrips keep your hands on the metal contacts for at least 30 seconds Note When you are not holding the handgrips the letters PLS will appear in the right display instead of your heart rate Press the Program Start button or begin pedaling to start the program Each heart rate program consists of 20 one minute segments One resistance setting and one heart rate setting are programmed for each segment The same resistance setting and or he

SEGMENT TIME IQOE El LAA show the elapsed time your pedaling pace measured in PACE DISTANCE minutes per mile and the distance you have pedaled The display will change from one number to the next every few seconds as shown by the indicators around the display Note When a program is selected the display will show the time remaining in the program and the time remaining in the current segment of the program instead of the elapsed time If you stop pedaling for several seconds a tone will sound the console will pause and the left dis play will begin to flash The right display The right display will show I yaur pedaling we ui RESISTANCE speed the approxi e mate numbers of fat calories and calories you have burned see FAT BURNING on page 21 and the resistance level of the exercise cycle The display will change from one number to the next every few seconds as shown by the indi cators The display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor Note Each time the resistance of the exercise cycle changes the dis play will show the resistance level SPEED HEART RATE Lin Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilo meters To find which unit of mea surement is select ed you must select the console s user mode Hold down t

PROGRAM s START SP pisa e 4 5 1STEPRESISTANCE Console Warning e 7 9 10 Decal vd a Note If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console remove it before using the console FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The advanced console offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts more enjoyable and effective When the manual mode of the console is selected the resistance of the exercise cycle can be changed with a touch of a button As you exercise the console will provide continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the hand grip pulse sensor Note For information about an optional chest pulse sensor see page 19 The console also offers six resistance and pace pro grams Each program automatically changes the resis tance of the exercise cycle and prompts you to increase or decrease your pace as it guides you through an effective workout In addition the console features two heart rate pro grams that automatically change the resistance of the exercise cycle and prompt you to vary your pace to keep your heart rate near a target heart rate as you exercise The console also features iFIT com interactive technol ogy Having iFIT com interactive technology is like hav ing a personal trainer in your home Using the included audio cable you can connect the e

RN ENDURANCE PH indicator is flash ing your pace matches the pace setting for the current segment Important The pace settings are intended only to provide motivation Your actual pace may be slower than the current pace setting Make sure to exercise at a pace that is com fortable for you TRAINING ZONES When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash a series of tones will sound and all pace settings will move one column to the left The pace setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the resis tance of the exercise cycle will automatically change to the resistance setting for the second segment Note If all of the indicators in the Current Segment column are lit after the pace settings have moved to the left the pace settings will move downward so that only the highest indicators appear in the matrix The program will continue until the pace setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column of the matrix and no time remains in the program Note During the program you can override the resistance setting for the current segment if desired with the Resistance buttons However when the next segment begins the resistance may automatically change to th

17. e resistance set ting for the next segment If you stop pedaling for several seconds a tone will sound and the pro gram will pause To restart the program simply resume pedaling DI Monitor your progress with the two displays See step 4 on page 10 G Measure your heart rate if desired See step 5 on page 11 G Turn on the fan if desired See step 6 on page 11 7 When the program is finished the console will automatically turn off See step 7 on page 11 13 HOW TO USE HEART RATE PROGRAMS Each heart rate program helps you to keep your heart rate near a certain percentage of your maximum heart rate during your workout Your maximum heart rate is estimated by subtracting your age from 220 For example if you are 30 years old your maximum heart rate is 190 Heart rate program 1 is designed to keep your heart rate between 50 and 80 of your maxi mum heart rate while you exercise heart rate pro gram 2 is designed to keep your heart rate between 50 and 85 of your maximum heart rate Follow the steps below to use a heart rate program 1 Begin pedaling to activate the console See step 1 on page 10 121 Select one of the heart rate programs When the power is turned on the man ual mode will be selected To select a heart rate pro gram press the Program Select button repeatedly until an H 1 or H 2 appears in the right display E SPEED HEART RATE l lI J FAT CALS RESISTANCE
18. ect each pulse wire to the wire of the same color on the Console Snap the Handlebar Cover 5 onto the Handlebar 3 Carefully insert all excess wires into the Console 4 Attach the Console to the metal plate on the Handlebar 3 with four M4 x 16mm Screws 57 Be careful to avoid pinching the wires 6 Turn the Seat Post Knob 20 counterclockwise two or three turns to loosen it Next pull the Knob raise the Seat Post 8 a few inches and then release the Knob Move the Seat Post up and down slightly until the pin on the Knob snaps into one of the holes in the Seat Post Then turn the Knob clockwise until it is tight Attach the Seat Bracket 7 to the Seat Post 8 with two M8 x 25mm Patch Screws 59 Make sure that the Seat Bracket is oriented so the slot is on the indicated side 7 Attach the Seat 9 to the Seat Carriage 11 with four M8 Nylon Locknuts 63 and four M8 Split Washers 55 Note The Nylon Locknuts and Split Washers may be pre attached to the underside of the Seat Slide the Seat Carriage 11 into the Seat Bracket 7 Move the Seat 9 to the desired position Insert the Seat Knob 10 into the slot in the side of the Seat Bracket and tighten the Seat Knob into the Seat Carriage sa al al o amp f O de 8 Identify the Left Pedal 22 which is marked with an L Using an adjustable wrench firmly tighten the Left Pedal counterclock
19. general The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program Remember that proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning maximum fat burn ing and cardiovascular aerobic exercise 165 155 145 140 130 125 15 Y 103 Y 145 138 130 125 118 110 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 Y 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age the three numbers are your training zone The lowest number is the recommended heart rate for fat burning the middle number is the recommended heart rate for maximum fat burning and the highest number is the heart rate for aerobic exercise 21 Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relative ly low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for ener gy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If you
20. h the access door Make sure that no wires are pinched Note The other wires included with the chest pulse sensor may be discarded HOW TO OPERATE THE EXERCISE CYCLE HOW TO MOVE AND LEVEL THE EXERCISE CYCLE 29 Stand in front of 7 47 the exercise cycle hold the handle bars firmly and placed your foot against one of the wheels Tip the exercise cycle until it can be moved on the wheels Care fully move the exercise cycle to the desired location and then lower it Due to the weight of the exercise cycle use extreme caution while moving it If the exercise cycle rocks slightly during use turn the leveling feet under the rear stabilizer until the rocking motion is eliminat Leveling ed PT Foot HOW TO ADJUST THE SEAT POST For effective exer cise the seat should be at the proper height As you pedal there should be a slight bend in your knees when the pedals are in the lowest position To adjust the height of the seat first turn the seat post knob counterclockwise two or three turns to loosen it if the knob is not loosened enough it may scratch the seat post Next pull the knob slide the seat post to the desired height and then release the knob Move the seat post up and down slightly until the pin on the knob snaps into one of the holes in the seat post Then turn the knob clockwise until it is tight HOW TO ADJUST THE SEAT The seat can be adjusted to the posi tion that
21. he Program Select button for about three seconds The letter E for English miles or the let ter M for metric kilometers will appear in the left display To change the unit of measurement press the button TIME SEGMENT TIME E IL PACE DISTANCE While the user mode is selected press the Program Start button The left display will then show the total number of hours that the exercise cycle has been used Press the Program Start button again The left display will then show the total number of miles pedaled To exit the user mode press the Program Select but ton again I 1 IL mu PACE DISTANCE Measure your heart rate if desired Note If you hold the handgrip pulse sensor and wear the optional chest pulse sensor at the same time the console may not display your heart rate accurately If there are thin sheets of plastic on the metal con tacts on the handgrip pulse sensor peel off the plastic To measure your heart rate 11 place your hands on the contacts your palms must be resting on the contacts closest to you and your fingers must be touching the other con tacts Avoid moving your hands When your pulse is detected the Heart Rate indicator above the right dis play will begin to flash one or two dashes will appear in the right display and then your heart rate will be shown For the most accura
22. he console will automatically turn off See step 7 on page 11 THE OPTIONAL CHEST PULSE SENSOR The optional chest pulse sensor provides hands free operation and continuously monitors your heart rate during your workouts To purchase the optional chest pulse sensor call toll free 1 888 936 4266 MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the exercise cycle regularly To clean the exercise cycle use a soft damp cloth To prevent damage to the console keep liquids away from the console and keep the con sole out of direct sunlight HOW TO ADJUST THE REED SWITCH If the console does not display correct feedback the reed switch should be adjusted To adjust the reed switch the Right Side Shield 27 must be removed Using an adjustable wrench turn the Right Pedal 21 counterclockwise and remove it Next remove the M4 x 25mm Screws 65 Turn the Right Crank Arm 23 so that it is pointing toward the front of the exercise cycle and then slide off the Right Side Shield Next locate the Reed Switch 46 Turn the Right Crank Arm 23 until the Magnet 30 is aligned with the Reed Switch Loosen but do not remove the indi cated Screw 57 Slide the Reed Switch slightly clos er to or away from the Magnet Then retighten the Screw Turn the Right Crank Arm 23 for a moment Repeat until the console displays correct feedback When the Reed Switch 46 is correctly adjusted reattach

25. r goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest num ber or the middle number in your training zone as you exercise Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A warm up consisting of 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in prepa ration for exercise Training zone exercise consisting of 20 to 30 min utes of exercising with your heart rate in your training zone During the first few weeks of your exercise pro gram do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes A cool down with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help to prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition plan three work outs each week with at least one day of rest between workouts After a few months of regular exe

29. the Right Side Shield 27 and the Right Pedal 21 HOW TO ADJUST THE DRIVE BELT If you can feel the pedals slip while you are pedaling even when the resistance is adjusted to the highest level the Drive Belt 47 may need to be adjusted To adjust the Drive Belt you must first remove both side shields Refer to HOW TO ADJUST THE REED SWITCH at the left and remove the side shields 20 Next turn the indicated M8 Nylon Locknut 63 until the Drive Belt 47 is properly tightened Then reat tach the side shields PULSE SENSOR TROUBLESHOOTING Avoid moving your hands while using the pulse sen sor Excessive movement may interfere with heart rate readings Do not hold the metal contacts too tightly doing so may interfere with heart rate read ings For the most accurate heart rate reading hold the metal contacts for about 15 seconds For optimal performance of the pulse sensor keep the metal contacts clean The contacts can be cleaned with a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals EXERCISE GUIDELINES A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise pro gram consult your physician This is espe cially important for individuals over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in deter mining heart rate trends in
