Do not point the lens at strong light sources Do not leave the cam corder pointed at a bright subject Do not use or store the camcorder in dusty or sandy places The cam corder is not waterproof avoid also water mud or salt If any of the above should get into the camcorder it may damage the camcorder and or the lens Be careful of heat generated by lighting equipment Do not disassemble the camcorder If the camcorder does not function properly consult qualified service personnel Handle the camcorder with care Do not subject the camcorder to shocks or vibration as this may cause damage Additional Information 167 e When mounting the camcorder on a tripod make sure that the tripod s fas tening screw is shorter than 5 5 mm Using other tripods may damage the camcorder When recording movies try to get a calm stable picture Excessive cam corder movement while shooting and extensive use of fast zooms and panning can result in jittery scenes In extreme cases the playback of such scenes may result in visually induced motion sickness If you expe rience such a reaction stop the playback immediately and take a rest break as necessary Do not insert the supplied stylus pen into the mouth If swallowed seek medical assistance immediately Handle the supplied stylus pen with extreme care and keep it out of the reach of children If mishandled the stylus pen can present a risk of severe eye injury and even blindness

Long term storage If you do not intend to use the camcorder for a long time store it in a place free of dust in low humidity and at temperatures not higher than 30 C Battery Pack DANGER Treat the battery pack with care e Keep it away from fire or it might explode e Do not expose the battery pack to temperature higher than 60 C Do not leave it near a heater or inside a car in hot weather e Do not try to disassemble or modify it e Do not drop it or subject it to shocks e Do not get it wet e Dirty terminals may cause a poor contact between the battery pack and the camcorder Wipe the terminals with a soft cloth 168 Additional Information Long term storage e Store battery packs in a dry place at temperatures no higher than 30 C e o extend the battery life of the battery pack discharge it completely before storing it e Charge and discharge all your battery packs fully at least once a year Remaining battery time If the remaining battery time displayed is not correct charge the battery pack fully Still the correct time may not be displayed after a large number of repeated uses if a fully charged battery pack is left unused or if a bat tery pack is used for long periods of time in high temperatures Use the time shown on the screen as an approximation Regarding the use of non Canon battery packs e For your safety battery packs that are not genuine Canon battery packs will not be charged

Recording in M Manual Mode When the mode switch is set to M Manual mode you can enjoy full access to the menus and manually adjust the exposure focus white balance and many more of the camcorder s settings to your prefer ence Even in M mode though the camcorder can help you with the settings For example by using Special Scene recording programs LL 78 By default movies and photos are recorded in the built in memory CHB only or on memory card EX CAMB You can select the mem ory that will be used to record movies and photos Z 36 Please read the IMPORTANT section before using an Eye Fi card Operating modes M 1 Set the mode switch to M 2 Turn on the camcorder D M CINEMA 3 Record movies and photos The procedure is the same as in mode Q 40 O IMPORTANT e Observe the following precautions while the ACCESS indicator is on or flashing Failing to do so may result in permanent data loss or damage to the memory Do not open the double memory card slot cover Do not disconnect the power source or turn off the camcorder Do not change the camcorder s operating mode Video 75 e Be sure to save your recordings regularly LT 120 especially after making important recordings Canon shall not be liable for any loss or corruption of data e Photos recorded on an Eye Fi card in memory card slot Bj will be uploaded automatically after setting the camcorder to playback mode if
