On the following pages you will find a table that details a short comparison of the chosen ones There were five that just were not ready or did not even come close enough to make the list After the top six comparison table you will find individual pages on the top six followed by the remaining fourteen and their limitations The top six that were deemed to be the best overall solutions by our members offer the most over all solutions and depending on your own requirements which one will work for your enterprise There are many review sites out there and OGITA s evaluated MDM solutions based on what our members felt the most important requirements MDMs were installed and tested in various environments to get the best test results Another good review of MDMs is located at www enterpriseios com wiki Mobile Device Management but it is from 2010 with some updates in 2011 Enterprise iOS is working on an updated 2012 version but it is not yet out There are many updates to their review from 2010 as MDM developers really stepped it up at the end of 2011 and the first half 2012 since the release of iOS 5 added so many new management features The following pages have all the various tables This review is using MDM tools from April May 2012 Soon MDM tools will become as common as firewalls security servers and management consoles and these tables will fade away as their solutions become common and much more powerful Oklahoma Government Information

This technique allows the IT support staff to do the initial setup and application installations After the installation the iPad is locked down by using tools in the Settings application of the iPad in the Restrictions area of the General tab Typically IT support will use a City owned credit card to purchase all the initial applications The best method is to use the technique described below in the section named Gifting Then if an application needs an update the iPad will be brought back to IT staff updated and then returned back to the end user Installation of new applications by the user will not be allowed under the locked or managed configuration The iPad will have to be brought to the IT staff to purchase and install new applications Some applications will not function as a normal application if they require access or approval from a locked feature Keep this in mind of you plan on going with a locked down version You can also use an MDM as described in the Mobile Device Management section to distribute applications Twenty of them are reviewed in that section By using an MDM tool you can distribute only the apps you wish or restrict what the iPad user can download Apple has expanded the tools that are available in iOS 5 so it is worth your time to upgrade to iOS5 before distributing the iPad Apple s Volume Purchasing program described on the next page allows you to purchase one or multiple apps and distribute them with out the iP
